Fatty and Hawk: Hunter's engagement
CHAPTER 1
KATHY'S POV.
I leaned in closely to the mirror, adding the darker purple layer of lipstick to match my ball gown. I was running late for the Reed family’s open roof party. After applying the last layer of foundation, I pursed my lips into a smile.
Yes, I know I look beautiful, even if everyone might laugh at me when I step out of this room.
I glanced at my gown. It was stunning, and I didn’t care what anyone thought—I felt like Cinderella in this beautiful piece. It helped disguise my weight and how I felt about my appearance. Nodding with confidence, I prepared to face whatever awaited me at the party. I had always been the laughingstock of the Reed family—and not just them, but at school as well.
I hate going to school, yet staying home was never an option. When my mom was alive, she would never allow it. After her tragic death, Mrs. Nancy Reed, the wealthiest widow in the city, took me in as her own. I never felt like a servant, barely managing to do even a chore.
Taking a deep breath and swallowing hard, I stepped outside, a wave of nervousness washing over me. My eyes narrowed as I noticed the other young women around me, all looking far more fabulous.
Yes, I looked a mess. A total mess, if you ask me!
Their dresses hugged their waists, showcasing their curvy figures and toned arms. As for me, I hate showing my arms. They didn’t look attractive, so I preferred long sleeves, even in the scorching heat.
Ding! A message chimed on my phone, jolting me from my thoughts. I slowly pulled it out and felt a wide grin spread across my face when I saw it was from Hunter Donton.
“HEY BABE! WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU? I HAVEN'T SEEN YOU SINCE THE PARTY STARTED. COME TO THE SIDE OF THE TRAILER HOUSE—I HAVE A SURPRISE FOR YOU!”
A silent chuckle escaped my lips as I reread the message. He has a surprise for me?
I couldn’t be happier. Hunter Donton is my boyfriend—indeed, the love of my life. I love him with every drop of blood in my body. He’s the reason I don’t get bullied anymore at school. Four years ago, when I enrolled in the high school owned by his family, he announced to the entire school that he was my boyfriend.
That day could easily be considered the happiest of my life, even if many people were disappointed he chose a "fat, ugly duckling" like me, Kathy Combs.
But I didn’t care. What mattered was that he chose me, and since then, he has been the best thing that has ever happened to me.
With that thought, I lifted my gown to knee level and quickly slipped into my heels. The trailer park wasn’t far away. If I took the shortcut, I’d be there in no time. I didn’t care about the party right now; all I wanted was to meet Hunter and see what surprise he had in store for me.
Rushing forward without caution, I collided with another figure. I gasped as my feet twisted, and I stumbled back, almost falling to the ground, but he caught me just in time. My gaze locked onto a pair of piercing brown eyes. A flutter raced through my chest when I realized it was Mateo Reed.
Notoriously known as “Hawk.
His strong hands steadied me, and I felt my breath catch in my throat. I just wished it was someone else who had caught me and not Hawk.
For a moment, we were frozen in time. My mind went blank, and all I could focus on was the warmth of his touch. I felt like I was drowning in his eyes, unable to look away.
Then, as if a whistle had blown, he lifted me up forcefully, and I stumbled to my feet, trying to regain my balance.
“Watch where you are going,Fatty. You might trip again and embarrass yourself further,in that antenatal gown.” he said, his eyes sweeping over my gown, and shame washed over me.
“You almost ruined my vest,” he added, dusting off some invisible specks from his biker vest.
I gulped, not saying anything. I just gritted my teeth. Of course, there was nothing to say to hawk of the most notorious motorcycle club in the city.
My gaze swept over him. He was tall, built like a top-tier athlete or even a brawler, with dark curls falling to his back and a full beard that made him look older than he actually was. A scar cut across his left shoulder, a gentle reminder of the violent lifestyle he lived every day. His brown eyes were piercing and predatory as they bore down on me. Those eyes had a way of intimidating people even before he uttered a single word.
And the fact that he was the vice president of the Reed motorcycle gang? That alone sent shivers down my spine. I grew up with him, even if I only saw him on Sundays for the mandatory family dinners hosted by Mrs. Nancy Reed ):the widow.
I hate him.
He wasn’t just a bully; he was someone I felt powerless against. I knew his history, how he fought his way to become one of the ranking officers of the Reed MC. Years ago, it wasn’t called the Reed motorcycle gang; it was known as the Rogue Bastards.
But nine years ago, Hawk killed the president of a rival MC gang in front of all the members, forcing them to bow to him at an age when no other biker would have dared. Since then, everyone was afraid of him—everyone except for Mrs. Nancy Reed.
“Fatty, next time watch where you’re running,” he warned, lighting a cigarette. “The widow won’t save you if you ruin my vest.”
“That wasn’t my fault and you know it, hawk!” I shot back, not bothering to hide my frustration with his bullying.
I hated everything about him, and the worst part? He called me "Fatty."
He gave me the nickname fatty and everyone now calls me that.
“Watch it, Fatty. The widow isn’t close by right now. I guess she’s busy screwing one of those top politicians,” he said teasingly. My face flushed, and I frowned.
“That’s disgusting, Mateo!” I retorted. “This is her birthday party, for crying out loud. Have a little respect!”
Hawk exhaled a cloud of smoke and let out a rough chuckle. “Of course you’d support your queen. I guess she’s teaching you how to appear holy while screwing those old bald men for money right?”
A shiver ran down my spine, and I felt the urge to smack his face. But that would be a death wish, and I wasn’t ready to die. I still had a bright future with Hunter.
Heat rushed to my cheeks, and my embarrassment deepened. Mateo was just an untamed animal. His smirk widened as he looked at me.
Suddenly, a voice snapped from behind me.
“WHAT THE F*CK, KATHY?!”
I turned around to see Hunter, his face contorted in a deep frown, red with rage.
“What the hell are you doing with him?” he yelled, striding toward me and Hawk.
Hawk blew out another puff of smoke, narrowing his eyes at Hunter before fixing me with a mocking grin. “I heard that’s your prince charming?”
“Yeah, he is. You heard right. But I don’t expect you to know things like that since you screw everything under the skirt. No woman would accept you,” I shot back.
I expected my words to rile him up, but he laughed instead. “No, Fatty. I’m just trying to make sure it wasn’t your small-d**k prince charming I saw screwing some slim b*tch behind the trailer house.”
All the blood drained from my face at his words, and he laughed at my reaction. I forced a smile, knowing he was lying. “F*CK off, Hawk! At least he doesn’t sleep with every one of the whores in the club. Maybe I should inform the widow to start some health check-ups on you all.”
I hissed and walked past him, approaching Hunter.
I couldn’t stand any of the Reed boys—Hawk, Leon (also known as Smokey), Austin (known as Ghost), and Liam (known as Raven). The only reason I still spoke to all three of them was because they were family.
They were all still the widow’s children. Those four had made my life a living hell since high school.
All four of those madafuckers? I hated them!
“I’m sorry, babe. It was just some family issues…” I lied, knowing Hunter hated them too.
“Family issues?” he scoffed bitterly. “Always some stupid family drama, yet you smirk at them like you take their d**k every night inside your p***y!”
I gasped. What did he mean by that? I would never let those crazy psychos get close to me. Besides, they had plenty of women to f*ck in the club—why would they want to bother with a "fatty" like me?
“I’m sorry, babe,” I quickly apologized. He had warned me countless times not to get close to them; he didn’t like it. He hissed and started to walk away, but I pursued him, hugging him from behind to apologize.
----------
A few minutes later, Hunter led me to a secluded area a short distance from the party.
Suddenly, the lights lit up, and my eyes widened in confusion as I strained to see the sky where the lights flashed. It read, “Will you marry me, Kathy?”
I gasped in shock and turned around to find Hunter kneeling in front of me, holding a small box that revealed a stunning diamond ring. The music faded into the background, and all I could hear was the collective gasp from the crowd.
Excitedly, I looked around and noticed a lot of people with cameras. A wave of nervousness washed over me as my eyes narrowed, but then they fell on the last group of people I wanted to see.
My whole smile faded when I saw the frowning faces of my four bullies.
The four dumbasses didn’t seem happy for me.
Not that I expected them to be, but why were they standing up and approaching us?
What are they trying to do?
