Alanna’s POV
“You are the most stubborn human being I have ever met!” yelled Cianan. “Do you enjoy making my blood boil? You know what don’t answer that. If you’re not going to eat, then so be it! I have more important matters to attend to at the moment than worrying about your stubbornness. You will not leave this room until you have learned to follow simple orders.”
I kept my head down, ignoring the king, which was a very bold and deadly move of mine, but I was not going to be treated like a child. I was in no mood, another brave thing of me to think like that. I was in no mood to deal with the dragon king’s antics, so I simply ignored his request for me to eat. Maybe if he treated me better I would comply.
I finally looked up at him once I heard the silence in the room. For the most part it was silent, except his god awful heavy breathing from his uncontrolled temper.
“Will that be all, dragon king?” I said very calm yet mildly sarcastic. I knew this little game of mine that I was playing could get me in a heap of trouble, but I liked a little risk here and there.
Cianan’s eyes turned a dark red, which only meant that his temper was not likely to be controlled for much longer. I could see the smoke coming out of his nose and through his temple. It was quit intriguing to see because as a human, we don’t exactly blow smoke through our noses when we are enraged.
So I simply got up from my seat by the window and walked over to the small coffee table in the middle of my room. There, a tray of wonderfully delicious foods was laid out like a charcuterie board.
I have to admit, I had not eaten all day because I was rebelling against the king for keeping me locked in my room, so once I approached the food, I had to be very diligent not to devour the whole tray in front of him. I still wanted to keep his horrible temper raised but not crossing the limit.
I reached down and picked up a piece of venison with my fingers and ate it slowly. I savored the tender meat, licking my lips as I took each bite. I slowly licked my fingers clean of the juices. “That was delicious. Thank you Dragon King. Did I fulfill your order?” I knew how much I was digging into his skin, but truly I wanted to see how far I could go with this game. I know I shouldn’t, but for some reason I knew he wouldn’t beat me for being disobedient.
Cianan closed his eyes and took in a deep breath, then smiled. “If that is all you are going to eat, then I will have your maid retrieve the tray. Just know, no more requests for meals until the morning once this tray leaves. It’s probably a good thing that you cut back on your eating, too. You’re looking a little full these days.”
I swallowed hard, glaring into his relaxed eyes that have changed from red to ocean blue. He was joining in on MY game; trying to break me. Why did he care if I ate or not anyways?! He is so controlling!
“Dragon King, it pleases me to know how much you care for me. I would like to take my time with my meals and not feel rushed to get through them, if that is alright with you.” I exclaimed with a hint of sarcasm and a servers smile.
He nodded his head. Maybe I tired him out or he was done fighting. We glared at each other for what seemed like minutes until he broke the contact and walked out of the room, locking it behind him.
“Ba****d” I mumbled under my breath. I took in a few slow, deep breaths. I knew my attitude would be the death of me one day, and I knew I was never going to get anywhere with it. It was a defense mechanism of mine. Not showing my true emotions or letting people get to me.
The truth is, once he left the room and locked the door behind him, my hands started to shake.
