Chapter 3

POV Miracle I unlocked the door to “Gina’s Café” and hurried as I removed the chairs from the table and switched all the coffee pots on. Gina had offered me the assistant manager job because I was renting a small apartment up above the café. It was convenient when one of her many college employees would call in. It wasn’t a hard job either, plus the hours were nice. It was almost 7 AM by the time I stopped to take another drink of my coffee. The other workers will be here soon. Then the busy day would begin. Maybe if I kept busy, I wouldn’t be thinking about the envelope and the stranger in the park. I just hoped time would fly by. I unlocked the door and the employees started to pile in, taking a stance at their assigned stations. Then I flipped the closed sign to open and the busy day began. I can’t believe how busy we have been lately. I'm sure we always had our rush times, but lately, there were twice as many customers. Gina had noticed the improved income and praised me. But I didn’t do anything for this boost in business. It was almost 10 AM before I was able to slow down and take a quick break. That is when I noticed a musky pine smell. I walked around the cafe trying to find where that smell was coming from. The smell was strongest at a booth in the back of the cafe, but no one was in the booth. And just like the vanilla caramel smell, it was slowly fading away. I brushed off the smell like maybe something was wrong with my nose. I would make a point to walk over to the walk-in clinic if it continued. The rest of the day went smoothly, and before I knew it, it was 2:30 PM, which meant my shift was over. I gave instructions to the other workers on what needed to be done to prep for the following day before I packed up my things and walked back to my apartment. When I reached my apartment door, I felt a weird sensation in my nose that I had never felt before. Then I smelt that musky pine smell again. I spun around and saw a tall man standing in front of me. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you, but I need to talk to you, you are in danger, your mother sent me.” His eyes were the brightest green that I had ever seen, his hair long and stringy, like it had been blown in the wind for hours. He looked wild, as he studied me, and my reaction to him. I could feel my heart pounding, and blood rushing to my head. Then all went black. I must have fainted; I woke up with a throbbing headache. Then I saw the man that was outside my apartment. He was approaching me and was handing me a glass of water. I sat up quickly, and started screaming “Help, Help, someone, help me.” He c****d his head and looked at me like I was a lunatic. “Miracle, I am not going to hurt you, I came to save you from the council.” I took a deep breath, what was I kidding no one would hear me scream in this building anyways. “What council and why am I in danger?” I asked him. “I will answer all your questions, but we need to take care of the headache you have first so you can relax.” How did he know my head hurt, what was this guy? I just stared at him and the glass that he was attempting to hand me. I didn’t want to trust this stranger who had basically just kidnapped me in my own apartment. I remembered that Sam was planning on coming over at 4 pm. I didn’t know what time it was, my phone wasn’t in my pocket, where was my jacket? If I could get to my phone I could text Sam and Ronny or even 911, even better. I started looking around my apartment and noticed it was on a chair at the kitchen table. Now how to get to that chair and send a text without him knowing? Then I heard him chuckle, “If you want to call your friends to come to rescue you, please do. Maybe they can talk some sense into you, that I am not here to hurt you.” How did he know what I was thinking? He stood up and walked over to my coat and retrieved my phone out of my pocket. Then he tossed it to me, “Please only your friends and not the police, we don’t have time to waste.” I sent Sam a text, “911, a stranger is in my apartment, he says my birth mother sent him.” Sam responded, “Be at your place in 5 minutes”. I didn’t want to bother Ronny, as he thought I was playing a joke with the note from the night before. Why would my birth mother send this guy instead of coming herself if I was in some type of danger? Who is this stranger to her? What does he want from me? Why was his cologne so strong, and why a musk pine scent? We both sat in my living room silent, as I waited for Sam to arrive. After 10 minutes of waiting, Sam barged in. “What is going on, Mira? OK?” I jumped up from the couch and ran over to Sam and hid behind him. I knew that Sam wouldn’t let anything happen to me. I could feel my heartbeat slowing down as my anxiety was easing. “Who are you, and what do you want with Mira?” Sam asked. “My name is Andre; I was sent by her mother. We need to get her to her mother, so she is protected from the council.” Ok OK, so now we have a name, but still, I did not know what the council was or why I was in danger from them. “When will the other be here, we really need to get a move on?” he asked Sam. “What other?” Sam asked. Andre shook his head and let out a laugh, “Come on the Ronald guy, I know all about you all, if I didn’t, I wouldn’t be doing my job.” Sam and I were in shock, how did he know so much about us, and our boring life? “Look, just call him, and get him here, so I only have to explain this once, and tell him to pack some clothes. We must get on the road when night falls.” Sam pulled out his phone and called Ronny and let him know of the situation we were in, and that we needed him to come now. While we sat in the living room waiting for Ronny to arrive, Andre started drawing some type of chart on a piece of paper. He handed it to Sam, knowing I wouldn’t take it from him. I looked over Sam’s shoulder at the piece of paper. It looked like some type of family tree. The top name said Lucia (Maker), then directly to the right under her name was Anastasia (1st Lycan). The next row was three lines with the names Miracle, Majestic, and Melody. I looked up at Andre, questioning why my name was on the paper. The other names, Majestic and Melody must be my siblings if they were under her name too. Then I remembered the note from the night before, said my sisters. My mother’s name was Anastasia. What a beautiful name. But why did he put Lycan next to her name? There were also two other lines under Lucia’s name, Leilah (Vampire), and Eziah (Warlock). Nothing was under Leilah or Eziah’s names though. Andre cleared his throat as I studied the paper. “I will fill in more as I teach you the history of the supernatural world.” “What? Supernatural?” I asked him. This man had just given me more information about my birth mother than anyone else could. I knew what a Lycan was. Is this why my mother abandoned me?
