Alarms

I snap my head up when hearing the alarms outside, Terrance goes running up the stairs, becoming no more than a blur. I could hear snarling and screaming coming from outside and began shaking Rose awake. I pull her close to me as the screams grew louder. Next thing I see is one of the guards falling down the stairs blood pouring out from his neck. His lifeless eyes stared back at me frozen. Through all the blood, I noticed his set of keys on the top of his jacket. It's right there freedom is so close we could run be free even on the run, it would be better than here, and I can only hope the extra adrenaline would be enough to carry Rose to the woods at least. Stretching my arm through the bottom of the bars to reach him, I'm only an inch away. His blood starts soaking the front of my tunic and I hold back my gag while it continues to coat my arm. "I just need another inch!" "Let me try." I hear Rose behind me and watch her kneel next to me, easily reaching into his pocket and pulling the keys back to us. Our salvation is right there! Quickly grabbing the keys and helping her up, I unlocked our cell. The look of amazement from the other humans is astonishing. The fact that we had the guts to get the keys during what seemed like a raid is apparently astonishing. I pass the keys to the next cell, giving everyone a chance, and they quickly replace their looks with determination. Pulling Rose close to me and wrapping my arm under her shoulders to bare the weight, we quickly moved up the stairs. I peaked around the corner before pulling her with me to the top. The last door, my heart is pounding, we either die or somehow we make it passed all the guards and whatever chaos is going on out there. "You ready?" I ask her. "More than ever she yells back before propelling us forward through the door. The scene in front of us is an all out war. Wolves of every shape and size fighting each other, flesh and fur fly through the air while the ground soaked up the blood of the lifeless bodies. "Isnt this wrong, why are they fighting their own kind?" "Who cares, run!" Rose says, pushing me towards the trees and out of the way of the battle going on in front of us. " If we are lucky maybe they will be to busy fighting to notice all of us gone." I say before we are both thrown into the air. I feel something break but the pain from it hasn't manifested yet which I'm grateful for. "Rose!" A big brown wolf with red eyes stands over her with a red foam dripping out of its mouth. "Run Annie!" she screamed before the wolf latched onto her, her blood spraying me in the process. "Run!" she whisper before her eyes rolled back. Tears streamed down my face but I did what she asked and I ran. I ran, my body propelling me forward, dodging the silhouette of trees I could make out in the darkness. Sticks and leaves crunching under my feet while my breathing became ragged. I knew he would follow me, hearing his howls in the distance mixed with the sound of tearing flesh. Her blood on my hands mixed with my own. This isn't how it's supposed to be. We needed to escape together. She was all I had now im all alone and I don't know if I can do this alone. The snarls came closer, I could hear twigs snapping behind me. It wouldn't be long he was going to find me. My panicked state made me miss a stump and i fall face first into the dirt. Rocks and twigs dig into my skin as I slide forward. Just what my body needs more injuries not like it'll matter I'm going to die anyway. The snapping twigs and thumping paws came to a halt, i turned seeing the same brown wolf that killed Rose standing in front of me. Red eyes stared back at me waiting for me to make a wrong move and pounce. "Just do it already!" The wolf chuckled like my defeat was amusing. Bones began cracking and reshaping to a man, Terrance. "TERRANCE YOU B*****D" I ran up to him, pounding into his chest which did not even phase him. He laughs pulling me back by my hair and punched me in the face two times and throwing me on the ground. " You know how long I've waited for this, my little Annie? To just be alone with you and finally get everything off my chest. So since we have time here I'll start. You could never stay in line always had to fight for that waste of space, sister of yours. To be the bigger person, blah blah blah. But now that she's gone, I'll be able to retrain you the right way. No other guards budding in with their two cents just us. We can start fresh with no interruptions." The pain I felt everywhere is unimaginable. He kicked my abdomen so many times i began puking blood. My legs cracked as he stomped on both them. "No way to run now my Annie". He said as i watched his foot come down aiming for my face. Closing my eyes i waited for the impact. But instead, I heard the thud of his body. Black spots danced across my vision as a figured walked over toward me picking up my body. Warm tingles covered me until darkness fully took over.
