Chapter 51: You've Changed

1438 Words
Sage and Styx were fixing the comforter on the floor, where the two boys would be sleeping for the night. However, Styx noticed the wary and was mindlessly gawking at the room. She seemed a bit outside of the norm, which, of course, worried the male.  “Sage? Are you alright?” But the female didn’t answer him. “Sage,” He called out to her but again the other didn’t reply. Worried, he approaches the other, grabbing her by the shoulder, “Sage.”  The female practically jumped at the sudden interaction, “what?” she said.  The older frowned, “I’ve been calling you for a while. You seemed out of it. Is something bothering you?”  The youngest shook her head, “Nothing,” she said, distracting herself with the boys’ pillows and comforter.  Styx just watched the female as she tried to get away with whatever it was she was thinking. Obviously, the youngest was hiding something. Something he doesn’t feel would sit right with anything. He grew worried. Honestly, the youngest was very vocal about everything; whether it'd be something she was confused about, something she'd seen or anything she thought was worth sharing. But with her sudden secretive attitude, the male worries it would be something too dangerous for her to keep on her own.  Eyeing the female, Styx could help but voice out his worry. “Sage,” he called her, approaching the female. He held her shoulders, forcing her to face the worried male as he lowered his face equally to hers, “You’re not hiding something, right?”  Sage felt her hands go cold and her heartbeat fastened. She was contemplating on telling the older. Honestly, it wasn’t a big deal to her, but something just told her it wasn’t worth telling the two males. But the look Styx was giving her was guiltful. And just imagining Daexoen asking her with the exact same look weakens the younger.  She sighed,  “No. I’m not,” she lied again. Styx looked at the other’s eyes. His own grew wide as he noticed the sudden emotion buried deep in it. There was a hint of guilt and fear in the female’s eyes. He felt a wave of emotions hit him as this was the first time he saw life in the other’s eyes. Although it wasn’t the emotions he hoped to see, he couldn’t help but grin to himself. Letting go of the younger, he lowered his head, chuckling at what he saw.  Sage looked at him in confusion. The sudden shift of emotions the older did was puzzling to the female. One minute he was asking serious questions, the next he was laughing at his own. She just stood there waiting for the older to finish. He lifted his head and stared at the female, “You’ve changed.”  The youngest was caught off guard with his sentence, “what?” she asked him. “Why is everyone saying that? I haven’t noticed any particular changes in myself.”  He shook his head, “It’s because we’re the only ones who could,” he said, grinning at the female. “You’ve changed since we first met.”  She tilts her head in confusion, “How exactly did I change?” As she asked that question, Daexoen suddenly entered the room, “Hey, I’m done,” he told Styx as he entered the room, drying his hair.  Styx grinned before turning to the female, “You need to find out on your own,” he said, leaving the two alone in the room.  “Find out what?” Daexoen asked as he sat on the female’s bed.  “I don’t know. Something about me changing,” she said, continuing to grab the extra blankets for the boys.   Daexoen raised an eyebrow, “Changing?” he asked, answered by a quick shrug from the female. The room stood silent. Both were unconsciously ignoring one another. Daexoen was busy fixing his side of the comforter, thinking about the weird aura he'd been getting in the house. He felt like someone was watching his every move ever since the two males arrived at the house. And the time in the bathroom, he knew the youngest was lying. She wasn’t looking at him directly and when he asked her there was a moment of surprise in her expression. Obviously, meaning she herself wasn’t expecting the situation. And the time they arrived from the time they left their own houses wasn’t nearly enough for her to take a shower.  Sage, on the other hand, was still clouded with everything she'd noticed in her house since she came home. Everything felt weird all of a sudden. Not to mention, she felt this weird thing in her stomach every time she lied to the two. However, she couldn’t help but feel worried. Worried as whatever these things could be would hurt them. Not only them, but the family she’s with. As the night fell deeper, the three decided it was time to get a good night's rest. But what they didn’t know was that as they fell into deep slumbers, someone at the far end of the room stood awake watching them. By the time Sage woke up, she noticed the two males were no longer in their comforter. She assumed they had both left when she heard muffled voices down stairs, instantly realizing the presence of the two was still in the house. She got up towards her closet, attempting to grab clothes to change after her shower, when she noticed that the window was open. Which was weird, since the air conditioning was still on. However, she chose to ignore that and continued in the direction of the bathroom.  As soon as she finished showering, she went downstairs, finding not only two males but four in her dining room. The two agents were now comfortably seated as they ate breakfast, and the two male students were looking at them with a deadly glare as they continued to place food on the table.  “Agent Brook. Agent Kleio, pleasant morning,” The youngest greeted them as she approached the dining table.  The two grinned, “Sage! Come sit down and taste what the two made,” Agent Kleio told her, motioning to the empty seat close to her.  She looked at the two, “You made breakfast?” The two nodded, placing a plate of handmade pancakes in front of her and a cup of hot chocolate before sitting on their own chairs.  “They would be excellent chiefs,” Agent Kleio said. The two rolled their eyes, “I thought we agreed to meet at the cafe,” Daexoen irritably asked his uncle.  “And miss this great breakfast?” He answered, munching down the piece of pancake. “Oh and Agent Dionne said she'd meet us at Greg’s. So we decided to fetch the three of you.”  Sage stopped the fork of pancakes entering her mouth, “Agent Dionne?” she asked.  “The new agent we told you about,” Styx answered. The female stayed silent.  As she bit into the pancakes she looked at the two males, waiting for a reaction. “It’s delicious.” She said,  The two grinned before eating their own breakfast. It was a talkative breakfast actually. One where the two agents would sometimes bully the other males, and the two would then fight back. Sage stayed silent, only speaking when asked to but listening to the eventful stories the four would share. She gave a short smile at the sight she was presented. It might not seem much but she felt at home with this. With the four in front of her.  As they entered the cafe, the four entered the empty room. The two agents were shocked to see the key to the room was with the male student.  “This place really became your personal club room, huh?” Agent Brook said as he noticed the comfortable positions the three got into the moment they entered the room.  The familiarity of the three in the room as if it was their own was admirable. However, the silence between them and the warm atmosphere disappeared as a knock from the other side was heard.  Sage stood up to open the door with the four males silently observing the female. As she opened it, an unexpected person was in front of her. A person she never thought she would see ever in her life again. A person she hoped she wouldn’t see again.  “Aunt Di?”
