Chapter 34: It fits

2080 Words
As soon as the bell rang and classes were done the three got together to go to their favorite cafe, honestly speaking it was the only cafe they knew around the city. They started to talk about their classes and other activities they had for the day. They wanted to start about the whole childhood and personality talk once they reached the cafe, where they could talk it over with some hot drinks with some tarts and cake. Once the cafe doors were open, the sweet fragrance of coffee and the homey aura of the cafe wrapped around them. The staff gave them a warm welcome as they approached the busy owner of the cafe. “Hey! I heard what happened to you three” Greg said as soon as he noticed the trio. “Yeah, we’re fine now. We just wanted to hang out for today” Styx answered. “Here, I cleaned the room for you.” Greg said, handing them the key of the office they always use. One of the employees couldn’t help but butt in their conversation, “It feels like you three are making the cafe a regular hangout place.” he jokes. “More like a clubroom” Another one added, earning a laugh from the others while Sage gave an interesting grin. “You can’t blame us,” Daexoen answered before turning back to the owner. “It’s a great place. Uncle We’ll have 3 capuccino, 3 tarts and 3 slices of vanilla cake” he ordered for them. “Can you make it 5 tarts?” Sage said, earning a nod from the owner. “Sure thing. Take a seat first” He gestured towards the empty seats in front of the counter. The three sat down on the chairs, waiting for their order before going to their little ‘private room’. The cafe was obviously going great, even better than before. There were a lot of people not as hectic as when Sage and Daexoen first came after the incident in the cafe but it was still quite a lot. There were a variety of customers in the cafe but mostly were students from Deviox. Some were either having a casual hang out with their friends while others had their books and laptops out like Sage did when she first met Daexoen and the agents during the crime. There were also older bunch of people just enjoying their sweet pastries and the aesthetic and calm vibe of the cafe. Once their order had arrived they made their way towards the empty office room they usually stay in, although they have only been there like 2-3 times they really like the peaceful and relaxing vibe of the room. True to what Greg told them the room was cleaner than when they last came to visit. The couches were also replaced with a newer set, the desk by the very back was now replaced into a small shelf and the dusty glass coffee table was replaced with a new wood coffee table with a small cactus in the center. The curtains were also replaced and the windows were now wiped clean. “I guess uncle wasn’t kidding when he said he’ll clean it for us,” Daexoen said as he set the tray of food he was carrying on top of the coffee table. “It feels good here.” Sage said as she hung her back on the rack that was placed near the door. As soon as the door closed and the trio were seated on the couches comfortably. “So…” Styx started, he was seated in front of Daexoen who was seated next to Sage on the other side of the coffee table. “What do you want to know?” Sage asked before eating the slice of cake. The two males looked at each other, “I know it sounds rude but what happened to your parents?” Styx built the courage to ask her. “Oh, I remember it was like two years ago, I used to live in a different city. My parents were scientists, so they were barely in the house while I would usually be at the library and go home once they text me that they’re there” Sage paused to drink the cappuccino, while the other two were silently listening to the youngest. "However, this time they decided to pick me up from the library themselves. We were driving home when my father lost control of the car and we ended up crashing. I just remembered waking up in the hospital. My aunt was crying and I found out my parents were both gone.” She further explained. “Did you know what caused the accident?” Daexoen asked. Sage shrugged, “It wasn’t an accident. Someone cut off some wires. The police did an investigation, when they entered our house they said it was a mess. Someone broke in but never stole anything. I concluded it must have been because of their job.” Sage finished explaining when she decided to finish the tarts she bought. “So they were murdered?” Styx asked, earning a nod from her. “They never caught them.” She added. Daexoen looked at her with confusion, “So they dropped the case? They didn’t find anything?” he questioned. The youngest nodded, “Yes. Agent Lucas was the head of the case by the way” Sage revealed causing the two to let out a shocked ‘what’. “Yes, before he was promoted and relocated here my parents’ case was the last thing he handled.” Throughout the whole time Sage wasn’t bothered by her story. Unlike other people who would have felt angry or sad while telling about their parent’s murder she looked like she was just telling a rumoured gossip. She looked fine like it never affected her. The two looked at her carefully, “And are you alright?” Styx asked. Sage raised an eyebrow, “Why do you keep asking that? I’m–” However, she cut her own words before sighing, “Honestly, I don’t know. I never felt sad losing them. I mean I should, I should have even cried when attending their funeral, but as their body was slowly lowered to the ground I just looked at the coffin. I was more confused why everyone was so sad and crying while I can’t even shed a tear from losing my parents. My own parents.” She suddenly confessed, frustration was evident in every word the female spoke out. The two males looked at her worriedly, “Sage.” Styx called out. “I’m Pathetic… “ She mumbled under her breath but loud enough for the two. “No, you're not. You’re just different. And that’s okay” Daexoen comforted her, holding her hand. The three continued their conversation this time Daexoen was the one who had the topic of his parents. He told them why he was staying with his uncle and that his parents would usually be out of the country. He had a little sister but she decided to stay in the US for her studies. “You have a cousin right? Someone about our age?” Styx asked, remembering a little girl that they used to play with when they were little. Daexoen nodded, “Speaking of, I heard from uncle she might be visiting next week or so.” He confirmed. Styx on the other hand didn’t have a mother anymore. Unlike Sage, he never knew his mom. She died giving birth to him, making him an only child. He found his passion for technology when he was 9 after his father introduced him to a small mobile phone. Styx grunts at the thought of not having any interesting event in his life other than their escapade a few weeks ago. They might not admit it directly but they knew they adored that small moment. It was a moment where they felt like they could truly trust one another. It was even their first talk in that room that didn’t involve a case, it was just them. For Sage she felt a little warm watching the grinning faces and contagious laughter of the two boys she was with. They never forced her to laugh with them, to smile while telling her point of view, instead they tried to understand her and even encouraged and comforted her. They put up with her curious questions of emotions. She liked it. She liked where she was. She liked being with them. It fits. Hot drinks turned warm, the pastries were all eaten and time passed in a blink. They didn’t even notice it was already 6 in the evening if it wasn’t for the call Styx got from his father asking if they were in the cafe together. A few minutes after the phone call, the three then decided it was time to pack up and wait for the agents to pick them up at the counter rather than have them pick them up in the room. Agent Kleio greeted them once they entered the cafe. “Hey, You guys could have waited in the room.” He said seeing the three by the counter. “It’s fine. We didn’t want to waste time anyway” Daexoen explained. Before the two could continue talking, “I think you forgot something” Sage mentioned to the two boys. The two males looked at her puzzled, but a few seconds later it was like a lightbulb suddenly lit up. “I left my phone!” Daexoen said before running off. “I left my laptop on the table!” Styx realized and ran off after Daexoen. As soon as the two left the two agents couldn’t help but look at the female. They both wanted to ask her a question but they both hesitated to do so. Sage might have noticed the curious yet hesitant look of the agents so she initiated the conversation. “We didn’t have a case if you're worried about that. We were just having a good talk” Sage told them. Both agents gave off a relieved sigh. “Oh, can we pry on that?” Agent Brook asked. The female shrugged, “Just some personal stuff. They wanted to know about my life and vice versa.” She casually answered. With that being said, three turned quiet. The sound of busy staff and talking customers fill the silence. As soon as the two arrived, they decided to leave. With a short farewell to the owner of the cafe as well as handing him back the key the quintet parted ways in groups of two. Just like the previous times Sage went with Agent Brook and Daexoen for a ride home. Once they arrived, she noticed her aunt patiently waiting for their arrival. “Auntie? Why are you outside?” She asked, as she got out of the car. The older woman gave her a warm smile before turning towards the agent, “I wanted to ask a small favor from Agent Brook if you don’t mind.” She asked the agent who also got off the vehicle. “If I can do it then I’ll try” He answered. “Would it be a bother if I could ask you to give Sage a ride on Friday? They have a camping trip by 8 and I have to leave for work by 6. I can't give her a ride.” She requested. “I could go by myself auntie,” Sage suggested. "I'll just commute." “But you need help with your things” Her aunt contradicted. "It would be difficult for you to bring your luggage alone." “I’m also going on Friday. We could just go together, Sage” Daexoen said, convincing the other. After hearing his nephew's plans he couldn't help but agree, “If that’s the case then I would gladly pick her up on Friday” Agent Brook said. Hyuna smiled at the agent. “Thank you Agent” She gratefully said. After a few more chats the agent decided they needed to get home. “Well, We better get going. Have a good night” Agent Brook said before he entered his car and started the engine. “See you tomorrow Sage” Daexoen said, waving his hand before they started to drive off.
