1 Love at first sight Chris POV
It's just another Monday. Like any other Monday, we all come dragging ourselves in from a weekend of fun. My phone keeps buzzing in my pocket as Meagan’s annoying a*s just won’t take a hint and keeps texting me acting like I'm her boyfriend or something. What is she even doing up this early? I keep telling her in every way that I can to not hurt her feelings that I'm not interested, but damn, the girl is persistent as f*c*. I guess after work this afternoon I'll have to be outright rude and straightforward. As I know that she will be at our friend Logan’s house like she always is when she knows I'm stopping by. I met Logan and Meagan our first semester of college. I stay in the dorms on campus. My mother saved my whole life to send me to college, but getting an apartment off campus is just not in the budget. We lost my father when I was so young that I do not even remember him. Logan keeps trying to get me to bunk with him as he comes-from money and has a two-bedroom apartment all to himself. But I'm just too proud to put myself in a boat where I feel like I’m using someone. I'm studying business. I think Logan is really just here to enjoy the last bit of freedom before he has to take over the family business (under the guise of studying business as well) and Meagan says she’s here to study fashion design but acts like she’s just here to find a husband. Meagan and Logan grew up together (they have history but are just friends now), so she kind of just follows him around. She comes from money as well. It seems as tho her family could care less what she does with her life, as long as, when she comes home, she is engaged to a man that her parents can groom to behave in whatever manner they deem appropriate. So a trophy husband, I suppose. Logan and I hit it off in the first class we had together and immediately became friends. With that friendship comes the understanding that Meagan will be around. Logan feels like he’s got to try to look out for her while they are both so far away from home. Anyway, sorry, my mind was wandering there for a minute. So ya, Monday morning blues for this guy right here. My hair is a mess and I’ve just started the coffee. It won’t be long and all the regulars will start piling in. I’ve picked up a job here locally at Sonya’s little coffee and pastry shop. My mother has worked so hard to get me to where I am that I refuse to let her pay for anything else. So Mrs. Sonya was nice enough to give me a job when I came here during my first week of college. When I asked if she was hiring, she looked at me like I had two heads and asked why I was looking when I should be enjoying my college years. I explained my financial situation and that I didn’t want to put more on my mother than I already had in life. She hired me on the spot, pays me more than I'm worth and even insists on me taking one or two nights every weekend off so I can 'sow my oats” (whatever that means). It sucks because I have to deal with a lot of judging eyes as, it's within walking distance of the college, but in the same sense, it is also great for me as it's within walking distance of my Dorm room. The bell came from the front door. I didn’t look up and start pouring a black cup of coffee as I was expecting Mr Woods (he’s usually the first regular to arrive). I felt her before I even turned around. Almost as if a wave of electricity was flowing over my entire body. I looked just as she turned towards me from browsing the pastries that Mrs. Sonya had already piled in the case. For a brief moment, I would have sworn her eyes flashed green and gold. It must have just been my imagination, the lighting or maybe I'm still drunk from last night and shouldn’t even be here. Never mind any of that, her smile is just as captivating as her eyes. While I was standing there debating my sanity and what was going on with her eyes, she had already made it all the way in front of me at the counter, though I had yet to say a word. She asks “ Are you open? The door was open but the sign is not lit up”. Here I am choking on what feels like my own tongue in my throat “um, uh, um”. Thank God for Mrs Sonya as she chose this exact moment to come out to add more pastries to the case. Mrs Sonya says “Chris, are you alright? Hello, dear, it seems as though the cat has his tongue. What can I help you with?”. Mystery girl's response “ Yes ma’am I was just wondering if you were open as the door was open but the sign is not lit up” Mrs. Sonya “Oh yes honey, just an oversight this morning. Haven't seen you around here before honey. Are you new in town? Mystery girl responds “yes ma’am I am. I came early to get a feel of everything before my classes start in just a few months.” Of course Mr. Woods walks in now so I have to abandon staring and listening to the conversation to walk his coffee out to his table. As I was heading back to the counter Mystery girl is leaving. She stops just shy of the door turning back slightly and says “Thank You Mrs Sonya and it was nice to meet you Chris. I'll see you when you get off work at 2.”
