Third Person's P.O.V
Gevia needed to attend a gala held by her father's friend in the industry. It was a necessity that she must go. Of course, the gala was held on a private island. Gevia needed to go there by plane, but she didn't know who was going to be there. She wasn't afraid of going alone, but she knew that it was going to be boring. With no one to talk to and with no one to vibe with, Gevia was persistent about tagging Joshua along.
She didn't want to communicate with the other spoiled children. Gevia was fed up with nonsense about how someone could afford a super car, a private jet, how one could host a yacht party at such a young age. Gevia always hated boastful peers, especially when it wasn't their own money that they were spending. It gets to her nerves sometimes and will eventually make her erupt in anger.
It was one of the few reasons why Gevia didn't like hanging out with her peers. She was surprised that she found someone humble and kind- Joshua. She was glad that she had met him, otherwise she would have gone insane in that mundane and materialistic world she lived in.
"Joshua," Gevia started, slowly baring out her fangs to the innocent Joshua. Joshua, who had no clue of what Gevia was about to say, innocently asked.
"Yeah?" such an innocent soul was about to be eaten out alive by sophisticated lifestyles.
Joshua was writing something in his notebook while Gevia found a way to ask the innocent Joshua. Gevia really wanted to go with Joshua, thus the need for proper wording and a great amount of persuasion skills were needed in order to make Joshua go with Gevia. Gevia buckled up, trying out her luck.
"Do you want to," Gevia trailed off, already regretting the way she started off things. She bit her lower lip harder and harder. The pain was numbing her consciousness, which was what she thought she needed.
"To what?" Joshua, still without any hints, asked. He didn't bother looking at his nervous friend as he was still preoccupied with his notes.
"See, I needed to go somewhere." Gevia decided not to give a f**k and let the situation play out. She was accustomed to adjusting.
"Uh-huh, and?" it was pretty obvious to Gevia that Joshua was on auto-pilot at the moment.
"And I need you to come with me?" Gevia indirectly asked.
"Okay, no problem. Where?" the smile on Joshua's face when he saw the final output of what he was scribbling down was broad. He felt proud that he managed to design something that would look great on Gevia. It was a formal, moon-themed dress.
There were also sparks that signified the stars, but it wasn't so as to be labeled as a child's work. It was elegant enough to make your eyes oggle. There was a part of Joshua that wanted to see it immediately in real life, but it wasn't tailored yet and he still needed to get Gevia's approval of the said dress. It was Gevia that was going to wear it.
"An island?" Joshua's head whipped swiftly at Gevia, almost cracking his neck in the process because of how fast it was. His mouth was slightly agape due to shock. He slammed his notebook on his desk, still surprised.
"A f*****g island?" Gevia nodded with a shy smile.
"Who the f**k do you think you're talking to?"
Joshua was thinking about the expenses. How much does an airplane ticket cost, and how much it costs to live there for a day? How much pocket money should he bring? It was already giving him a headache and his pocket a heart attack. He couldn't afford any of those. He could have if he had his salary from being Gevia's personal designer and hairdresser, but it hadn't been a month since then, so there was still no pay.
"You, my dear friend, Joshua." Gevia fluttered her eyes, trying to woo Joshua, but it wasn't working. Not one bit. Joshua was so devastated.
"You do know that I don't have the money to go with you?" Joshua sighed, disheartened.
"b***h, what?" Gevia's eyebrows raised. She was disgusted just thinking about Joshua paying for himself when it was Gevia who asked him in the first place.
"What? You didn't think of that?"
"Girl, it didn't because I was going to pay for everything. Your presence is highly needed. I can't go another day with those spoiled kids. I swear, I'm going to be pissed the entire day." Joshua blinked. He couldn't believe that Gevia would shoulder the expenses, and all of it at that. He forgot for a second that his friend was an actual millionaire. He had to gulp and blink a couple of times to make sure that he wasn't dreaming.
Gevia was still disgusted, but Joshua didn't pay attention to her. He was still surprised.
"So, basically you're asking me to go with you to a foreign island because you can't take their bullshit?" Gevia clapped her hands and happily smiled. Joshua got what she was saying and she was happy. That alone was enough to make her smile. A companion that shares the same thoughts as her when it comes to life.
"Exactly!" Gevia gleefully answered.
"I don't even know what we're going to do there?"
"Oh, it's just a gala. And since you're my designer as well, you'll be needed there." Joshua pursed his lips, already analyzing what he could possibly do to make Gevia shine, but then he remembered that he had just made a new masterpiece.
"Wait, so, take a look at this first."
Joshua handed Gevia his newly sketched dress. As Gevia looked closely at the details that Joshua put in, the more Gevia was mesmerized by the beauty that Joshua created. It automatically touched a spot in Gevia that she never knew she had. Gevia thought it was her astral spirit that was tingling inside her or the girly side of her that liked the sparkles.
"That is magnificent! It's an outside gala, so it will literally shine." Gevia loved the design that Joshua made on the spot.
"Nice! You liked it."
"So, is this a 'yes' as well?" Gevia asked, hopeful for an optimistic answer. Joshua grinned, happy to answer with a joyful 'yes'.
"b***h, hell yeah!"
"Yey!"
The two celebrated when Joshua suddenly remembered to ask.
"When though?"
"It's on Friday."
"Oh, Friday night?" Gevia giggled, shaking her head 'no'. Gevia took a picture of the dress and sent it to her personal tailor.
She told the tailor that she needed the dress by Thursday afternoon and the tailor replied with an 'okay'. Once that was done, Gevia looked at Joshua with an evil grin. It wasn't really evil, but the grin from Joshua's perspective was evil.
"We leave Thursday night." Joshua's eyes widened.
"We're going to skip class?!" he screamed, surprised that Gevia was willing to skip a school day. But then he forgot again that Gevia was a mafia boss' daughter.
Joshua realized something. When Gevia was with him, Gevia looked like an ordinary person, to the extent that he forgot about Gevia being rich. Gevia was so easygoing, and so mature, unlike her peers with money. Joshua realized how amazing Gevia was. She wasn't flaunting her richness. Gevia also hated spoiled brats, which makes Gevia more likable to Joshua. Joshua admitted that Gevia was scary at first, but as time went by, he realized that Gevia was Gevia and not some wannabee.
"Unfortunately so. I don't even know who is going there. Daddy just told me to go." Gevia sighed. She really wanted to know who was going there, as it would give her ample time to decide who to avoid the most, but there was also an underlying reason why she wanted to see the list of attendees.
She wanted to see if Alex Samson was going there. After their little spicy makeout session, she barely saw Alex anymore. Alex was busy again, with something that Gevia didn't know. Gevia also asked the president if he was going to keep his mouth shut after witnessing that situation. Thankfully for Gevia, Alex had already threatened the president with gentle words.
"I see. But what about school?"
"You don't have to worry about that. I got us covered. Is your mother going to be okay though?" Joshua nodded his head.
"If it's for work, then yes," Gevia grinned.
"Did you read your contract?" Gevia asked, feeling that Joshua didn't read the contract.
"Contract? No?" Joshua instantly sunk in his seat, ashamed that he hadn't checked his contract before signing.
"Well, it was stated there that if you were going away for work, your family would receive compensation for your absence from the house."
Joshua's eyes widened. He wasn't sure if Gevia was joking or not, but he chose to believe Gevia's words. She was his friend after all. He almost jumped out of his seat, happily stomping his feet like a puppy happy to see its owner.
"You're kidding?" Gevia shook her head, pleased to see Joshua's genuine reaction.
"You should really read your contracts from now on." Joshua aggressively nodded his head, ecstatic to read about the perks of being Gevia's personal staff.
"I will when I get home. But are you for real?"
"Yeah. Since you're still a student and you're a breadwinner in the family, your hourly rate is compensated."
Joshua couldn't have been any happier than that. The more he listened to his friend, the more happy he was getting. As if Gevia's words were magic. He didn't know that happiness could be caused by words. He was so happy that he could cry any moment.
"But why so big? I mean, I'm not complaining, just asking. You know? Maybe there's a catch or something." Joshua asked, just to make sure that nothing was amiss.
"Unfortunately, there is. I can't stand dickheads, so please do try and calm me down." Joshua clicked his tongue, already thinking about that.
"No worries. Just one candy and you'll be good to go." Gevia laughed out loud.
"I knew it. Bringing you would be the wisest decision I've ever made."
Joshua winked playfully while Gevia pushed Joshua's scrawny arm away.
"Oh, you."
