Gevia's P.O.V
"Drive safely!" I told Aeron before she drove away.
I still had Aeron's jacket on me. It was cozy, but it was barely keeping me warm. It only provided me with the necessary cover. It was a good thing that not many were living in this neighborhood, otherwise I would stand out and get labeled as a weirdo for wearing a swimsuit in the middle of the city and in autumn at that.
After I saw Aeron off, a car that I dreaded to see pulled over in front of me. I started to panic. Did they see who dropped me off? Of course they had. They arrived seconds later after Aeron dropped me off. I decided to play it cool. Alex, Joshua and the captain got out of the car and I can say for sure that Alex didn't like what they saw. The blank expression on Alex's face says it all.
"Girl, you okay?" Joshua rushed to my side and hugged me before inspecting that I was okay. I giggled. Joshua had it the other way around, but I wasn't complaining. I saw the captain and he gave me a nod. I gave him a thankful nod as well before looking at Alex, who was still not okay.
Apparently it bothered Alex more than it should.
"Girl, I'm okay. Just cold." Joshua immediately breaks the hug and dragged me inside his house.
"Sorry for delaying. Let's go."
Alex and the captain followed behind us. It was my first time inside Joshua's house, and I must say that it had that sense of 'home' that I only feel when I'm with daddy. It made me smile.
"You can change there." Joshua handed me my clothes and pointed to a closed room.
Joshua's house wasn't big, and I guess it was enough for them to live in. It was well-maintained as well. Everything was neat and clean, and on their rightful places. The insides smell nice as well. I went to the room and changed there. I needed to be quick, otherwise I was going to catch a cold. After I was done changing, I went back to where they were and saw the situation.
The captain and Alex were glaring at each other. Joshua sat there idly, unsure of what to do to ease up the situation. I sighed and went in and sat beside Joshua.
"What was that all about though?" I asked Joshua, ignoring the other two. I wasn't going to give in to bullshit today. I had enough. I guess it was also a good thing that the situation managed to cut short the pageant. It was a life-saver in a sense, but also a dangerous one.
"I don't even know. Police came as soon as they could."
Hmm, I wonder what all of that was about. There were no situations like that before. That was the first time, and all I can say is maybe it's because Alex and I are there. I could only pinpoint that much. Joshua stood up and gave me a forced smile.
"Do you want some soup?" I smiled and nodded my head. Joshua looked at Alex and then at the captain before shrugging off their existence, not bothering on asking if they wanted soup or not.
Joshua left the living room and went to the kitchen. I was in Joshua's shoes now. I was sitting here, waiting for them to talk things out when I know that they won't. I was getting irritated with their child-like games. Even for Alex, this is too much.
"Just f*****g talk it out, you f*****g chickens." I hissed angrily. I crossed my arms and legs, portraying that my patience was wearing thinner and thinner.
"What? It wasn't my fault." the captain started, defending himself with a solid first step.
"You said something that bothered me."
"Well, that's not my fault that you don't want to accept it."
"Oh, yeah?"
"Of course. I was just trying to normally talk to you that day when you suddenly beat the crap out of me!" the captain threw his hands around, waving them aimlessly.
Alex's eyebrow raised.
"I was pissed that day and imagine you being that, then someone suddenly grabs you by the arm, yanking it and suddenly starts saying bullshit?" Alex came off hard. I could only shut up and let them settle this the most disturbing way possible. I wanted to slap them both for not listening to each other.
I honestly feel like I'm listening to two children having an argument, refusing and invalidating each other's feelings. I want to smack them so hard that their heads would turn when I do so. But I can't. Although Alex had a point, the captain also has a point. You can't just disturb someone so aggressively when they're not in the mood, and you also can't throw punches even if you're that pissed.
My head is killing me. These two were being such babies.
"The f**k you saying? I just told you something so important!"
But I'm curious what they were on about. What was it about that the two started talking and having a fight right away. I wonder how they became friends. But that wasn't the most important issue right now.
"And without evidence at that! You know how much evidence costs these days. You yourself should know that. f*****g retard."
I haven't seen Alex this worked up because of someone else. It was a sight to see. Alex arguing with someone and losing their temper in the process. Even when Alex and I were arguing, Alex always had their wits together. Alex was always calm and collected.
"..." the captain couldn't say anything. It seems that they were talking of something that had something more in it. Had this happened before already? Were they actually friends?
"Sorry," the captain suddenly said.
Alex's facial features suddenly softens.
"I'll go get some fresh air."
Alex stood up and got out of the house. My eyes shifted to the captain. He sunk in his seat, covering his eyes while facing the ceiling. He let out a long sigh. A really long and deep one.
"Is everything okay?"
Alex walked out during an argument. What a sight to see. That was definitely something that I haven't seen before. Did Alex walk away because they felt that the captain was being genuine, or was there something else? Their way of arguing and talking made it sound like they were close.
But I've never seen them together, nor talk to each other in school.
"Nah, I don't think so."
I facepalmed.
"Sorry, stupid and insensitive question. How are you holding up?" without looking at me, the captain's lips curved into a small smile.
"At least we're talking." even though he didn't really answer my question directly, I could tell that he was a bit happy that at least Alex was talking to him.
I don't know if I should pry or not, but again, who was I to ask? So I decided against it.
"That's great."
"What about you two?"
"Huh?"
I was taken aback by the question. Did the captain see me and Alex hanging out together? Or does he just have a great sense of reading the atmosphere?
"You don't have to hide from me. I already know."
"How....?" due to my confusion, the prolonged and unsure question blurted out.
"I know Alex more than it seems."
"Oh, it certainly feels that way. And to answer your question, I don't know what you're talking about? We're only strangers with information about each other."
The captain straightened up and looked at me with a goofy smile.
"Oh, my gosh. You're still in denial."
"In denial?" I repeated his words.
He shook his head, taking back what he said.
"What do you feel about Alex?" I gritted my teeth, and tilting my head to the side.
"The child of my daddy's enemy?" the captain laughed.
I answered truthfully that I didn't get why he was laughing.
"What are you laughing at?" he shrugged and shook his head.
"I'm sure Alex feels strongly for you."
"I'm lost. What are you on about?"
Was he speaking alien language? Why couldn't I understand what he was saying? Was he speaking morse codes? His words sounded so foreign to me that I had to search my personal dictionary to try and search it up, but I didn't have it.
He squinted his eyes at me. His laugh died down and he was lost as well. We were both lost. Our conversation suddenly turned to somewhere that we didn't get understand.
"What?"
"Huh?"
"Dude, what is this conversation?" he was so lost that he just stared at me with this stupid, confused look.
"Are you for real?" he asked, baffled.
"What? Was there some kind of revelation that I did but didn't know?" he puckered his lips before looking away.
"God, you both are hopeless."
"You've been speaking and talking to me, but not one word did I understand any of it." he scratched the back of his neck.
What was this fucker on about? I couldn't help but scowl. Was there something that I needed to know again? Or was it something I said?
"Sheesh, alright. But do know that I have your back." before I could ask him what it was about, Joshua came right on time.
"The soup is ready- where's Alex?" he looked around the room, but didn't find Alex.
"I'll go get Alex, since they're not on good terms." I pointed to the captain bluntly.
"Hey!"
Joshua nodded his head and turned to the captain with a disappointed look.
"Wha-" Joshua walked away, not letting the captain finish his sentence.
I walked away as well and went to fetch Alex who was on the patio, looking at the street. It was getting dark and the street lights were turned on. I stood beside Alex and stared at the road. There were already less cars passing by even when the sun was still up, but now that it was getting darker, less and less cars were seen.
"What are you thinking about?" I asked, attempting to try and do small talk with this motherfucker.
"Hungry. Let's go."
Was all Alex said before leaving me there and going inside the house. I sighed, suppressing my irritation and following closely behind. I clicked my tongue and I sat next to Joshua, leaving the captain and Alex to sit together.
Like I give a f**k.
