CHAPTER TWO - Big Boss
Mellissa walked into a compound that was the size of a town, several houses were built at different angles in the compound. She wondered how they never got lost. She followed the oath they asked her to follow which led her to a huge white mansion with a golden-plated gate.
“How can I help you ma'am.” a male's voice played from the CCTV camera above the gate.
“I have an important meeting with the owner of this house call him and let him know I'm here,” she said looking at the CCTV camera. She heard a beep sound and the gates opened for her to come in, she walked in to see her dad on his knees bowing down to Big Boss.
“Yes, sir I will go start my duties now.” Daniel bowed down repeatedly to Big Boss.
The sight of her dad pleading brought a different type of pain to her chest, she never felt so suffocated in minutes. o! She had to fix this now she can't take it anymore.
“Dad stop it!” She screamed and walked angrily towards Big Boss, ignoring her dad's whispers.
“LET MY DAD GO NOW,” she said glaring into his eyes with rage.
“Have you come to pay what your dad owes huh?” He said taking a step forward to her with his hands at the back in a crossed manner.
“Yes, I would pay for my Dad's debt.”
“Okay then Daniel go home, Melissa will be my servant from today henceforth till you pay my money.”
“No no please don't do this big boss leave my daughter alone.” He said holding his hands in a folded manner.
“I don't want you anymore I'm interested in this young lady who dared to challenge me today Go home, Daniel.”
He whispered into the bodyguard's ears and walked into the Mansion with a sly grin on his face. Two hefty bodyguards came in with a violent approach, Daniel was dragged from the ground by one of the bodyguards towards the gate.
“Melissa!! No no don't do this let me go, don't take my daughter away from me Melissa!!!!” He sobbed in pain, trying to set free from the bodyguard's grip but to no avail.
Melissa turned away from seeing her dad being dragged away from the compound. She couldn't see her dad sobbing so much, it broke her heart into a million pieces but she knew this was the right thing to do. This is what she wanted. She would prefer to be the scapegoat than to see her dad being maltreated by the most vicious man.
“Ouch! That hurts….what are you doing? Let me go!” The bodyguards dragged her from arms with a tight grip, dragging her into the Mansion.
They led the way to one of the many rooms downstairs, threw her to the floor, and locked her inside. Melissa couldn't help to think if she had made the wrong decision to come here; maybe the risk of running was better than being locked in a room with no idea of what was going to happen next.
What if they planned to kill her tonight?! what if he planned to starve her till she had no will to live anymore? These thoughts scared her but underneath these thoughts, she was glad her dad wasn't here with her.
“Get up, the boss wants to see you now!” The Bodyguard pulled her and gave a light push urging her to step out of the room. Melissa walked slowly observing the Mansion carefully, she noticed everywhere was painted white, and she noticed the interior design was carefully designed to have a peaceful aura. The interior design distracted the mind from the many rooms she couldn't help being curious about some of them being hidden.
“Curiosity killed the cat, you know,” he said with a blank facial expression, showing no emotions on his face as he walked slowly toward Melissa it felt like every step he took made the ground
crumble beneath his feet.
“You have beautiful eyes, has anyone ever told you that,” he said tracing invisible lines around her face.
“What are you doing Vincent?” Melissa wondered what this man wanted from her at this moment.
“VINCENT!? Did you just call me by my first name?” Vincent was taken aback by the sound of his name from a girl he was meeting for the first time. No one has ever dared to call him by his first name including his female acquaintances and now he's looking at the same eyes he saw on that particular day, having the audacity to call him by his first name. He remembered being attracted to those eyes for a reason.
“Young lady, you should hold that tongue of yours,” he said glaring at her sternly.
“You work under me now, there are three rules you have to follow here,” He paused for a second to scan her carefully, “Firstly you aren't allowed to contact anyone from outside, I don't care if it's family or friend, no one, don't ever keep me waiting when I call, even for a second, lastly, do not ever go into any of the room upstairs, you have no business there. Am I clear ?!”
Melissa nodded repeatedly, trying to accept the fact she wasn't ever going to see her family or Daniel anymore.
“Now I know you are a feisty one, the day you decide to break any of my rules your father would pay the price.” He said bringing out a pistol and placing it on the table looking directly into her eyes
Melissa understood the messages clearly and she knew this was very easy for him to do.
She had to be alert and upright at all times if she wanted her family to live, her sacrifice couldn't be wasted.
Minutes later, Melissa observed her room closely, to understand the environment she would be living in till when she would finally be granted freedom from this house.
Her phone rang from the inner pocket of Melissa's bag, She wondered how this phone got into her bag. She remembered clearly she was searched thoroughly and her gadgets were all seized from her. Could this be Big Boss's plan to test her? She thought to herself.
She answered the unknown caller, waiting for the caller to speak first, still wondering if this was Big Boss's plan to test her.
“Melissa it's me how are you dear?” Melissa recognized her Dad's voice. She felt relieved hearing her dad's voice after being locked up here. She had lost hope upon hearing her dad's voice after Big Boss told the bodyguards to monitor her closely from being in contact with the outside world.
“Dad are you fine is everything fine did mom get back safely.”
“You are the one working for that dangerous man and you are asking if I'm fine” Daniel paused holding back the tears. “I'm fine dear I hope you are good too.”
“I'm fine Dad, how about Mum?” Melissa knew deep down that was a lie but she couldn't let her dad every minute she stayed here she hoped they wouldn't kill her any minute.
“Your mum is fine, I lied to her you went for a year of training don't worry everyone is fine here. Just keep your phone in a safe place.”
“Wait, Dad did you put this phone in my bag?”
“No…yes, Melissa I had to put it in your bag 'cause I was told the rules of that house before you came in.”
“Dad you shouldn't have….”
“I would always care about you just keep your phone safe, I would call you from time to time.”
“Dad what about John.” Melissa wondered why the first message wasn't Daniel had come looking for her repeatedly. She hoped her dad had forgotten that part that's why it didn't come up immediately in their conversation.
“He's fine, he's definitely worried about you.”
Melissa knew when her dad wasn't being honest and this was one of those moments but she trusted her dad to have a good reason behind this lie, maybe John was still busy with his Photography Portfolio and had not been able to check his phone. If he had she knew he would have called immediately after he saw her missed calls notification. That has to be the reason Melissa thought to herself silently.
“Mel are you there, my child?”
“Yes Dad, sorry I got a bit distracted…so, Dad…” The door flings open in a second making a loud noise as the door hits the wall.
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING OVER THERE!” the hefty bodyguard screamed walking to Melissa, she shivered knowing she had definitely been caught what she feared the most was going to happen today.
There was no way out.
