The last of the paranormals
prologue "Adrienne! Adrienne! Adrienne!" Came the shout from the crowd. It wasn't my first time at the Colosseum. I was one you could call an experienced gladiator, I possess the powers of two supernatural breed of human. I could cast spells so quickly as I could wield a sword. I was captured at 16 and my captor thought I wasn't useful, so he sold me off to a man who wouldn't let me die in peace. This man sold me to a gladiator who took me as his Armor bearer and made me bear his Armor in the Colosseum. He trained me himself and few years later his leg was cut off in a fight at the Colosseum. He would have been stabbed but I saved him in time and faced his opponent myself. Before that day all I did was bear his Armor and hold his spear, I didn't know I had powers before then, but whenever he trained me I use to feel a surge of power rise in me. I didn't take note of it until that day when I faced his opponent, I found out I could wield the sword so powerfully and some kind of magic would go into the sword. Until that day I'd never kill a man but I did kill one that day. The crowd was shocked; "how could a tiny girl kill such a giant monster whom her experienced master couldn't face" would have been the thought on their minds. I was faster than my opponent and at a time I had to mind control him to use his weapon against himself in which he did by falling on his spear. Mind control wasn't a spell I could use against everyone, it was one I could only use against one who is angry and desperate. When a fellow is always patient I barely get to mind control him. My master wouldn't let me go even after I saved his life, I couldn't mind control him because he was always patient. He told me I was going to buy my freedom by myself if I could fight against the dreaded giant of the Taalicoon clan. He was rumoured to have killed every gladiator who came his part, most gladiator who face him where mostly criminals who were sentenced to death and the judges had made the form of execution to be by facing the Taalicoon giant. No one had ever survived the Taalicoon giant but my master thought or perhaps he knew and was so sure I could face him and bring him down. Whatever made him think so I didn't know. Before a gladiator who wasn't a criminal has to face the Taalicoon giant, he must pass through some necessary phase of combats with some rough, hard men at the Colosseum in which the men must die or he must die. When my master told the organizers I was going to fight Taalicoon giant, they mocked him and laughed him to scorn. But somehow he got me in and I passed all the necessary obstacles and faced the Taalicoon giant and won with spells and strength. And before that time my fame had gone far and wild and I was tagged " The tiny giant Slayer". When I eventually killed the Taalicoon giant no other gladiator could face me, those who dared didn't live to tell the story of what the "tiny giant Slayer" did to them. I regained my freedom but that wasn't the end of my gladiatory work. But that's a story for another day. On this day I faced this monster, he carried a dart in one hand and a spear in another. He was terrifying, in many years I have not been afraid of an opponent no matter the size but this was different. He look like fear itself. And there came the shouts of the crowd "Adrienne! Adrienne! Adrienne!" He was faster than lightning and in a swift he was on top of me trying to drive his spear into my heart but I was defending with my sword so hard that I feared it might break. The cries of the crowd begun to faint and when I looked up, not a single soul was in the Colosseum anymore, it was just me and what I would call " death". And then I woke up. it wasn't the first time I was having that dream, it was like the millionth time I would be having it. I understood the message it was passing across. " Death was near for the seemingly immortal". I took my bath and dare not look at mirror for it potrays my real self. I trekked all the way to the 356th school I would be attending. " So can anyone tell us where the first Shakespeare's play was acted?" The history teacher asked. "At the Globe theatre in London" Wiggins answered " And in what year Wiggins?" " Eehm, am not quite sure ma'am. It should be around 1598 and 99" "1599 ma'am" Becky answered from the back of the class " Any contrary answer?" the history teacher asked " Yes ma'am" I said as I raised up my hand. In real sense that was the correct answer for those who never lived in the times of Shakespeare. " Actually ma'am it was first acted in queen Elizabeth's courtyard in March 24 1599 before it was acted in the globe theatre later that year". I could see the teacher was shocked and I immediately regretted ever saying that. " I should have kept shut" i thought to myself. " What's your prove? And how were you so sure of the date". All eyes were on me. I was the new girl who came weeks ago and knew weird historical things. " See me in my office during recess and you gonna tell me how you got to find that answer you just gave me now". Somehow she seem desperate and I mind controlled her and made her forget her request to see me at recess. For the rest of the day I got this where–did–you–get–your–answer look from my classmates. I couldn't wait for 1400 to leave the damn school. We were eventually released at 1400. Wiggins came up to me while I was waiting for Becky. He's been on my neck for days, he wants me to date him, he wants me to be his girlfriend. Good! He his an handsome little boy, but must he date someone 200 times the age of his grandmother. " Hello Adrienne, you want me to take you on a ride on my new bike" he said stopping his bike beside me. For a while I couldn't hear him, I ruminated on the past. Wiggins made me remember Howard back in London in 1599. We went to Shakespeare first play at the queen's courtyard together, he was a lovely man and one of those prominent men in London back then. He loved me so much but when he started being inquisitive about me not getting old after 20 years of being together. We had a boy and he was growing older than me. Whilst my boy looks 20, I still look 16. I dropped him a letter and board a ship to Greece and there I started another life. " Adrienne!" Wiggins called out for what i suppose was the tenth time. I was lost in thought. " Were you giving it a thought? " He asked "What?" I asked " The date" he said " Look Wiggins if you wanna date me, go date your grandma first" I said and realized it was quite harsh. I was tired of falling in love with men I was much more older than, I just wanted to be alone. I just wanted to be that old woman trapped in a 16 year old body. He was fuming when Becky came up to me, I was going to mind control him and make him go home straight but I didn't bother. Seeing Becky made me forget about him. " You told me you were going to tell me about your mirror allergy today" she reminded " You are the first human have heard of or seen who has a mirror allergy" she added. I had made up the mirror allergy story for her, after she had almost forced me to look at the mirror sometimes ago, in front of the other girls while we were in the changing room. She told me to look at my make up, I didn't and ever since then I don't apply make ups. We eventually got to my house. " Why don't you like lighting up your room? open the curtains for the sake heaven." She said " Your room looks haunted, I wouldn't come here alone" she added. I did well to hide my mirror because she'd always taunt me with one whenever she sees the opportunity to. " Nothing to eat??" She asked "Wait! Why does some of your stuffs look medieval. that book looks like one that is older than Methuselah." " I'll make you coffee" I said and went to the kitchen. " How on Earth am I going to start explaining to this little friend of mine" I thought. I made the coffee, came with the two cups to the bedroom. " Since when have you have you been living here? Did one of your grandparents leave this house for you? And why is it only you here? Why did you decide to live in an old country house? Didn't you say you had an allergy to mirrors? how about this, why were you keeping it?" She asked. Too much questions to ask at once, but the last one made me dropped the cups of coffee in my hands. " You found my mirror? I asked" "Why were you hiding it?" " Let's go talk outside, I don't like your house" she said I collected the mirror from her hand and for one time in hundreds of year i looked at it while someone was watching, it was a mistake on my part. " Is that a magic mirror or something?" She asked and then checked herself in it " Why are you the only one getting old" " Look am older than I look, I am almost 2000 years old. It's only a mirror that potrays the real me that's why I avoid it" I tried explaining " Who are you, don't harm me please" "As long as you promise anything we say wouldn't leave the four walls of this room until I die" "Fine! I promise, don't just harm me" she begged. I brought out a big book from my bag. " I wrote this book in 1745, I didn't publish it and didn't dare let it leave the confines of this bag, I was afraid of being seen as a witch or no one would believe me if I said it was real. " Of POOFONS AND WINCES: the last of the paranormals" she read out...
