Kevin's eyes fluttered slowly, fluttering opened and he turned around, blinking away the sleepiness he was feeling only to come face to face with a bare chest. There was a small noticeable blush on his cheeks as he glanced at James's bare chest. James had a firm chest and you could tell he works out quite a bit from his muscles. Despite being a big nerd James broke the physical stereotypes. He wasn't scrawny or skinny instead he had one of the Jamesest bodies at school.
But his silent, brooding personality quickly bored any students who had any kind of interest in him. They went to him and tried to make a conversation only for him to blink at them and pull out a novel to read. Some people had even assumed he was mute only for them to see him put aside his book minutes later to speak to his best friend.
Kevin, who was still staring at the shirtless James , had forgotten just how good he looked since it's been awhile they had a sleepover and now that he was he couldn't seem to look away.
Was that weird?
He didn't think it was all that weird since he had always admired how good looking his best friend was. He thought it was normal to think that James was attractive because he was and It would be more weird if he called him ugly.
So Kevin never meddled on the fact that he found his best friend attractive and never told anyone just how attractive he found him.
Kevin finally looked away from James's chest to instead look at how peaceful his face looked when he was sleeping. His usual emotionless face had a hint of content as his arm was wrapped tightly around Kevin's waist. His messy hair was sprawled on the pillow and some of it was over his closed eyes. Kevin raised his hand and brushed the hair away from James' eyes and at the action the latter stirred and slowly opened his eyes.
"Good morning." He murmured then covered his mouth with his hand as a yawn broke through.
"Morning." Kevin smiled and slowly unwrapped himself from James's arms and sat up.
"Do you want me to make you some breakfast?" He asked James.
"Mhm." James hummed and scooted closer to bury his face in Kevin's side.
"Okay I'll go to the bathroom and then make you some crepes. Is that good?" Kevin asked and got a grunt of approval from James before getting out of bed and going to the bathroom.
After doing his business in the bathroom he came out to see James had fallen asleep again and smiled. He decided to take a shower before making breakfast so he borrowed a soft gray sweater and a pair of black sweatpants from James and grabbed a towel before going back to the bathroom.
After taking his shower he woke James up and went downstairs to start on the crepes. A few minutes later James came down and smiled at Kevin before sitting on the counter stool.
"Is that my favorite sweater?" James asked as he eyed the gray sweater his best friend was wearing.
"Maybe?" Kevin meekly said as he poured some syrup over James's crepes and applied Nutella to his.
James chuckled and shook his head at the adorable boy who kept stealing his favorite clothes.
Not that he had any problem with it.
Yesterday after they had watched a movie they had eaten lunch and then Kevin played some video games while James laid his head on his lap and read a book. After doing that they went out to buy some much needed groceries and came back home. Kevin had made James some dinner while dancing to a song and James had watched him with a smile on his face.
Kevin loved to cook as much as James loved to read. He aspired to be a culinary chef one day and James was always supporting him in his dreams.
As they both tasted the crepes la Kevin made this morning a smile came on their face at the delicious taste.
"Perfect as always." James said and Kevin beamed at him.
"Do you need a ride when you go to Mary's house?" James asked and Kevin shook his head.
Kevin wanted a car really badly but his parents wanted to wait till his 18 birthday to give it to him. So Kevin had no other choice but to rely on his dad and James to drive him. Sometimes Arthur would give him a ride too.
"Dad said he'll drop me off." Kevin answered.
"Mhm okay. If you need a ride home, text me and I'll come." James said getting up and ruffling Kevin's hair before setting his dirty dishes in the sink.
Afterwards the two hung out in the living room and James decided to catch up on the work he missed these past two weeks. Kevin decided to help him even if both of them knew James could do it on his own but to see the beautiful smile on Kevin's face James had let him explain the things he already understood.
After finishing most of his work James dropped off Kevin at his house and returned home. Kevin entered his house and spotted his mom laying down on the couch with a face mask and was watching a Korean drama. He chuckled at the sight and greeted her. Ever since she quitted her job because of her boss she's been much healthier and all the men in the household are glad that she's finally able to rest and take care of herself better. Their family was still doing well financially since their dad recently got a promotion:
"How's James doing?" His mom asked.
"He's doing good. We had a lot of fun yesterday." Kevin said with a bright smile that only ever appeared on his face when he spoke of his best friend.
"I bet you did." His mom smirked knowingly and turned back to the intense drama.
"When's dad coming home?" Kevin asked.
"He'll be back by three." She answered and Kevin hummed. Since it was Sunday his dad had the day off but the man decided to go and buy his wife some sweets and do some grocery shopping.
Kevin glanced at the time and saw that it was now two thirty and he had about an hour and a half before he had to leave. He decided to make some lunch for him and his mom.
While they were eating his dad came back and gave his wife a kiss on the head and greeted Kevin.
"Dad, can you drive me to a classmate's house? We have to do a project together." Kevin asked his father and he nodded.
"Lee told me they're coming to visit during the weekend." His dad informed and Kevin immediately smiled.
Lee, who was Kevin's older brother, was his biggest role model. He loved his brother very much and he was never shy to show it unlike some siblings who always bickered and acted like they hated each other.
His brother was now 27 years old and engaged to the love of his life, Arabella. Kevin had met Arabella many times and he now considered her like the older sister he never had. They were going to get married this winter and Kevin was very excited about it. They had been together for nine years now and it was long overdue.
He remembered when Lee proposed to Arabella it was a very fun day for both families. They had gone on a cruise a year ago during the summer and Lee had popped the question in the middle of the ocean on the huge boat Arabella's dad owned. Both families plus James were there to witness the beautiful moment. Everyone considered James family so every time there was a family trip he was always invited.
"That's great! We can have a big dinner Saturday night and invite Bella's mom and Kevin. You can invite James." Kevin's mom said and he agreed.
"Okay dad we should go now or else I'll be late." Kevin said getting up from the table as his dad grabbed his keys and they left.
When they arrived Kevin was shocked to see that Mary's house was located in the same neighborhood as James' house. He bid his father goodbye and jogged over to the house. Kevin rang the doorbell of the fancy house that stood before him. Mary's parents could be as wealthy as Luciana was.
After a few moments the door opened and Kevin's eyes widened at what Mary was wearing. She was wearing a sparkly silver dress with a very low cut that showed her cleavage and it was very short. She had put on some mascara and liner along with a coat of dark red lipstick. Her usual straight hair was curled and to make it all worse she wore heels.
In her house.
Kevin looked at her with wide eyes and she gave him a sultry smile that made him want to turn his a*s right back around and call his dad to pick him up again.
"W-weren't we supposed to study?" He stuttered out and she chuckled.
"Yes. Come on in." She said and moved aside so he could walk into her house.
He slowly walked in and cautiously looked around. "Is anyone home?"
"Yes there are maids around but my parents are
out." She said and Kevin felt relieved that they weren't the only ones in this gigantic house.
"Come on, let's go to my room." She said with a flirty smile and Kevin shook his head.
"Can we work in the living room? Or the kitchen?" He asked instead.
"We could go to the library." She answered and Kevin nodded.
She led him up the stairs and into the library. He looked around and noticed it was smaller than the one at James's house but still pretty big and filled with books.
"We can sit here." She said, leading him to a table with comfy chairs around it. They sat down and Kevin got his document out and started working on it.
"Don't you want to get to know each other a little better first?" She said and Kevin glanced up to look at her and saw she was pouting and fluttering her eyelashes at him. It only made him uncomfortable as he didn't feel an ounce of attraction for her and he could tell what she was trying to do.
"I'd rather work on this and leave. I have a lot of things to do." He lied through his teeth and her shoulders slumped in disappointment as she also opened her document.
A few minutes later he felt her hand brushing against his and he immediately moved it away from her grasp.
"Kevin." She whined. "I don't understand this number, could you explain it to me?"
"Um sure." He said and she scooted her chair closer to him and showed him the problem which was fairly easy to explain.
"You just have to combine these two numbers together and then multiply to find-" he stopped talking when he felt her hand on his thigh.
He sighed in frustration and moved his chair away making her hand fall from his thigh and he glanced at her through narrowed eyes.
"Look Mary. You're a Jamese girl and all but I don't have any intentions of doing anything with you that isn't completely platoJames. I'd like you to please stop with your advances. Let's just work on this project and then we never have to speak to each other again." He firmly and she looked down with an embarrassed blush.
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable I just thought that maybe.." she trailed off.
"It's okay, I understand." He said with a small smile to ease her embarrassment and she nodded.
The rest of the evening was spent with them working on it and by seven they had finished the whole document. They awkwardly smiled at each other and Mary walked Kevin to the door. Just as he was about to leave she grabbed his arm to stop him.
"Do you think we could hang out sometime?" She asked hopefully. Kevin didn't want to outright say no and hurt her feelings so instead he made it seem like maybe when it was a no. He wasn't going to agree and make her think he likes her.
"I'll think about it."
She let go of his arm as he hurried out of the house and sighed in relief. Those were the most awkward hours of his life and he hoped he would never have to spend time with the girl ever again.
It wasn't that she wasn't pretty or anything like that. Mary was a very beautiful girl but he just doesn't feel any kind of attraction for her. He had never felt any kind of attraction for any girl before and he figured it was because he hadn't found the one yet.
He decided to ask James if he could pick him up since he didn't want to bother his dad again and James only lived five minutes away. Just like he expected, James arrived fairly quickly and Kevin hopped in.
"How was it?" James asked and Kevin shrugged.
"It was okay." He muttered and James looked at him curiously.
"Did something happen?" He pushed for answers and Kevin figured there was no harm in telling James about it.
"Mary... she kept throwing hints at me. Like brushing her hand against mine. Putting her hand on my thigh and she wore a pretty revealing dress for just working on a school project." Kevin said and he didn't notice how James's hands tightened around the steering wheel and how his jaw clenched in anger.
"She touched your thigh?" He repeated with a low, dangerous voice and Kevin glanced at his friend and suddenly he felt uncomfortable and guilty that he let Mary do that.
"Um Yeah." He chuckled nervously and he could slowly feel the waves of anger that were radiating off of James.
"Do you like her?" He asked tightly and Kevin immediately shook his head.
"No! I moved away as soon as her hand touched my thigh and told her I had no interest in her." Kevin assured quickly but he didn't know why he wanted to reassure James so badly and make sure he knew that he had no feelings whatsoever for Mary.
"Ah." James said and his body relaxed as he continued to drive like nothing happened.
"Lee's coming over next weekend and my mom wanted to invite you for dinner on Saturday night." Kevin said changing the subject.
"Is Bella coming too?" James asked with a small smile. James loved Bella just as much as Kevin did. There were a few people he really liked in his life and Kevin's family were one of them.
"Yep. You know those two never go somewhere without the other." Kevin chuckled.
Just like you and James, his subconscious said but he shook it off since he and James were best friends but his brother and Bella were a couple.
"You can tell your mom I'll be there." James said just as they pulled in front of Kevin's house.
"Okay I'll see you tomorrow." Kevin said with a smile.
"See you." James murmured and raised his hand to ruffle Kevin's messy black hair.
