Kevin was bouncing on his toes, his eyes roaming the crowd of people, searching for his best friend. He had begged his dad to let him borrow his car so he could pick James up himself. His parents were very surprised that he voluntarily woke up at 6:00am. He was usually always complaining about waking up at 7:30 for school but today he was filled with energy as he was eating his breakfast.
"Kevin." He heard a familiar voice say and when he turned around his face broke into a huge smile at the sight of his best friend.
James was wearing a black hoodie with black sweatpants and his usual neat chocolate brown hair was messy and ruffled. His slightly tan complexion made his beautiful green eyes pop out more than usual. His chiseled features resembled a stony mask that he only ever removed around Kevin and his glasses that Kevin adored but never admitted sat comfortably on the bridge of his nose.
Kevin jogged towards his best friend and immediately wrapped him in a hug. People at school always found it weird how these two never bro hug and instead just normally hug with Kevin's arms around James's neck and his around Kevin's waist. Slowly everyone got used to their odd friendship and decided to ignore their act of affection every now and then.
James buried his face into Kevin's neck, tightening his arms around his waist and sighed in relief at the comforting scent of lemons and watermelon.
He was finally home.
"I missed you." James said when they pulled away. He only ever said those words to Kevin and no one else but Kevin. James does not like to show much affection to people, not even to his own mother but with Kevin it naturally came to him.
"I missed you too. It was so boring without you I thought I was gonna die." Kevin said dramatically and James chuckled.
"Good morning Kevin." He heard James's mother, Luciana greet him and he faced her with a polite smile.
"Good morning Luciana." He replied and glanced at her appearance. She always looked so professional even after a long flight. Her brown hair was neatly placed in a bun at the top of her head and she wore a black blouse with a black skirt that came to her knees. Her green eyes, identical to her son's were on display without her usual glasses but since her eyesight wasn't as bad as James she would be just fine to make it home.
"James, I have to go to work. Do you mind taking a taxi-"
"That's okay! I drove my dad's car here so I'll give him a ride." Kevin cut her off with a small smile to make it less rude and Louisa nodded.
"Okay I'll see you later then." She said and with a final nod left the two boys on their own.
"Come on, let's go!" Kevin said and grabbed James' smaller bag so his best friend would only have to drag along his big suitcase behind him.
"You know I can hold that right?" James said and Kevin did know that. Even if James was a complete nerd he was also much taller and stronger than Kevin was. James frequently went to the gym and had a very healthy diet in comparison to Kevin who eats a lot of junk food and goes to the gym a few times per month. Kevin does sometimes play soccer just like his older brother but he was not as passionate as he was.
"Yes I know but I want to help you." Kevin smiled and James nodded as they went outside of the airport and into the parking lot. They put the bags in the truck before they settled in the car and Kevin started driving.
"How was the trip?" Kevin asked.
"It was okay." James replied with a shrug and looked out the window.
"Isn't it a good thing that your mom took you with you? Doesn't she usually leave you here alone?" Kevin asked softly to not upset his friend.
Ever since James was a kid, his mother would leave on countless business trips leaving her son with maids to watch him over. When he met Kevin he would go and stay at his place with him every time his mother left him. His parents and older brother loved James like their own and always welcomed him in their home. Their house was more of a home to James then his ever was.
"She only took me with her because her business partners wanted to meet her son. Her successor." James said with no hint of emotion in his voice and Kevin frowned.
"I'm sorry." Kevin whispered sadly and James looked away from the window to gaze at his friend with a soft look.
"You have nothing to be sorry about." He said and raised his hand to ruffle Kevin's hair. "And at the end of the day I'll have you right?"
"You'll always have me." Kevin repeated with a smile that James matched with his own.
"Promise?"
"Promise."
After the long drive Kevin pulled up in front James's big house. James's mom was rich. She owned her own business that was very successful around the world so they were bound to live a very luxurious life. But James hated spending too much money and never went overboard when he was using it.
They grabbed the bags and entered the empty house.
"Let's go to my room." James said and Kevin nodded following behind him as he started climbing the stairs.
They arrived in James's room and set the bags down near his big black closet. His room had white walls with a king size bed in the middle. His black comforter was nearly folded at the feet of the bed on top of his dark blue sheets that looked almost black. He had a big window with black curtains that gave his room a somber look. There was a big TV on the opposite wall of the bed that James only used when Kevin was over. He prefers to sit near the window where his large brown bookshelf was and read.
"What do you want to do?" Kevin asked James as he sat down on the bed, his back to the headboard and his legs spread out.
"Can we rest for a bit and then maybe we could watch a movie." James suggested as he went to his closet to take off his hoodie, leaving him in a black t-shirt.
"Sure." Kevin agreed and patted his leg for James to lay his head on. Ever since they were kids every time they would watch a movie or rest one of their heads would be placed on the other's lap.
James smiled and crawled into bed, laying his head on Kevin's lap while the latter grabbed the comforter and pulled it over them.
Kevin ran his finger through James's soft hair as he hummed in content. After a while James fell asleep and his soft snore filled the room. Kevin grabbed his phone with his right hand while his left continued to play with James's hair.
He decided to text Arthur since he has been missing from school for two days straight now.
Kevin : hey
Arthur: what's up dude
Kevin: Where have you been?
Arthur: I was sick. Got a cold.
Kevin: Are you feeling better?
Arthur: yeah Noelle came to check up on me yesterday
Kevin: weren't you guys fighting?
Arthur: it was just an argument
Kevin: You guys are weird but okay. Don't make her sad again
Arthur: she's the one who said I only think with my d**k!
Kevin: Was she lying?
Arthur: f**k you
Kevin softly chuckled, knowing that was the end of the conversation he decided to scroll through social media. He saw he had a friend request from Mary on i********: and decided to accept it. Two minutes later he received a DM from her asking her what time he was going to come over. Kevin sighed and said 4 and she agreed and sent her adresse.
She tried to keep the conversation going but Kevin left her and decided to stalk James's i********:. He noticed he posted pics from his trip and saw a picture of James brooding at Times Square. James shared posting pictures of himself but once in a while he did it. Mostly because Kevin forced him.
"What are you doing?" A voice startled him out of his thoughts and he looked down to see James raising his head and tiredly glancing at what Kevin was looking at on his phone.
"Are you stalking me?" He asked with a soft smile before burying his face back in Kevin's stomach.
"Of course not!" Kevin exclaimed with a small embarrassed blush and closed his phone, setting it on the bedside table and glancing back at the tired James.
"Are you awake?" He asked.
"Mhmm." James murmured and turned over while stifling a yawn.
"Come on, let's watch a movie." Kevin said and James nodded, getting up and getting the remote for Kevin.
"I'm gonna go to the bathroom." He said and Kevin nodded.
After finding a good enough movie to watch Kevin clicked on it and paused it to wait for James. After a while James came back and sat on the end of the bed. Kevin frowned at the distance and started curiously at James.
"Come here." James smiled at him and patted his legs. "It's your turn."
The frown vanished from Kevin's face and a smile came instead. He crawled over to James and laid his head on his lap and James immediately buried his fingers into Kevin's messy black hair.
They clicked play and silently watched the movie. As the movie came to a boring part James decided to break the silence.
"What are you doing tomorrow?" He asked, stroking Kevin's hair and massaging his head.
Kevin felt hesitation clawing at him. He didn't know why he was being so hesitant to tell James about the math project but an uncomfortable feeling tugged at his chest. He laid on his side and glanced up at James's face as he moved his hand from Kevin's hair to his forehead.
"There's this math project I have to work on." He started out and James hummed.
"Can we do it in teams? Do you have my document?" James asked and Kevin's heart dropped.
"I do have your document." He answered. "And yes we can do it in teams."
"Are you working with someone?" James asked, already knowing the answer because of the guilt on Kevin's face.
"Yes. You know the girl that sits in front of us?" Kevin said.
"The one with the platinum blond hair?" James recalled and Kevin hummed.
"Yeah she asked to work together and I tried to say no but she kept going at it so I agreed." He muttered with a hint of annoyance in his tone.
"What did she say?" James asked.
"Oh she was just being really persistent about working with me so I gave in..." Kevin trailed off.
Kevin rarely lied to his best friend so he felt surprised at himself that he didn't tell James what Mary actually said.
You're acting as if you guys are dating.
"I'm sorry we can't work together." Kevin murmured before turning around and burying his face into James's stomach.
"Maybe there's someone who doesn't have a partner and would want to work with you!" Kevin exclaimed.
"No, that's okay. I would prefer to work alone."
"But you always work with me."
"That's because it's you."
