“My wolf was... killed”
My jaw dropped, I was in complete and utter shock. How? How can a wolf be killed and leave just a human with a wolf scent? That’s not possible, surely?
By this point, my father had decided to make an appearance and was stood in the shattered door way.
“We will deal with this information back at the pack house. Boy, open the door and release my son.”
Butthead 2, slowly crawled towards me, keeping his head low, before standing at the doorway and opening it with ease. My mouth was still hanging open and I don’t think it’d shut again! This is insane. He slowly pushed the door open and walked into the room, feeling nothing. I could feel the silver in that room radiating towards me, making me shuffle backwards to escape the pain. Butthead simply walked towards the destroyed bed and half dragged my brother out of the room. He was handcuffed with what looked like silver chains, zapping any energy he had and torturing him with searing pain. Those bastards! I released a warning growl at the boy. He got the message as he immediately removed the chains from Apollo’s wrists. With that my brother collapsed to the floor, just outside the door, gasping for air and writhing in pain.
I crawled to him, whimpering at seeing the state of his wrists. His whole body seemed red and in pain. This was not the plan for today. Father quickly called his men into the cabin, directing them to different jobs. Two warriors had hold of Butthead 1, two more were directed to pick up the unconscious, battered Butthead 3 with a further two sent to grab Butthead 2. Father motioned for Xerses to grab Apollo and walked over to me, helping me to stand. I whimpered as I tried to gain my footing, s**t that silver really drained me. In one swift movement, father had me in his arms, carrying me out the cabin like a princess. I growled under my breath, uncomfortable with the idea of looking weak.
Shush child, you can’t walk right now and you need to save your strength for the ceremony.
Well s**t, I forgot about that. How were we supposed to do that if Apollo is passed out and I can barely stand?
Xerxes, send word to the packhouse, get the healers ready and clear any visitors away from the entrances.
Xerses nodded at my fathers orders and linked one of his faster warriors to run ahead. How far away were we, that we couldn’t just link back to the pack? We must still be on our land? I didn’t feel like I’d crossed the border and I hadn’t seen our border guards if we had.
I gave in and stopped struggling against my father and must have drifted off, as I woke some time later in a hospital bed. I opened my eyes, unwillingly, as the bright lights pierced my sensitive vision. I hate hospital lights, did they have to use the brightest lights of all time in here? Fluttering my eyelids, I grew accustom to the new found brightness and looked at the room around me. White, white, white, oh and look! More white. Uhg. I shuddered at the clinical surroundings and glanced down at my hand. It was pretty much healed now, probably helped by the IV line shoved in my arm. Distracted by the IV, I hadn’t noticed my father walk in.
“Well, sleeping beauty doth awake!”
He laughed at me.
“Wow! Thanks dad, I can feel the love and care there!”
He frowned at me that time, before coming and sitting by my bed. Bet that chair was comfy... not.
“Stop getting distracted Accalia, I have to talk to you.”
I sighed and look into my fathers eyes, they were filled with worry and anger. Oops, better listen to him.
“Today, you were very careless Accalia and I’m a little disappointed.”
I thought about interrupting but he held up his hand, silencing me before I could speak.
“I don’t want to hear it. You should have waited for us before running off alone. We are a pack for a reason. We work together, we are not lone wolves. Yes, we got Apollo back, but we could have lost both of you today, then where would we be? No future alphas for the pack and your mother and I would probably die from heart break.”
He had a point I guess. But I needed to let him know what the rogues said and find out if Apollo was ok.
“I’m sorry dad, I didn’t think about that. I just wanted to save my brother. I.. I can’t live without him. He’s my twin.”
Father patted my healthy hand and nodded.
“I understand princess, but it was still dangerous”
Hmpf, I hate when he calls me that.
“I’m sorry, but if I hadn’t, we may not have found him in time, you see..”
I went on to explain everything I heard from the rogues, about their boss and plans for ruining the ceremony. After I had finished father simply sat in silence, thinking. He suddenly stood up and began pacing the small hospital room. Oh uh, dads thinking to hard and worrying to much. He always paces when he is stressed.
“Dad, calm down please. It will be fine. How’s Apollo?”
He took a deep breath and sat back on the chair. I knew that would distract him.
“Apollo is recovering well, doctors say he should be well enough to continue with the ceremony tonight.”
Thank god. Wait, the ceremony? We didn’t miss it?
“You know, I can read you like a book child, no you didn’t miss it, you’ve only been out a few hours. Clever way of getting out of your to do list today though.”
He chuckled to himself. Good joke dad. Eye roll initiated.
“Hey! That was a good one! Don’t eye roll me! Anyways, you should be free to go shortly. The nurse will come check you over and release you. We can go see how Apollo is and then go grab some dinner. Apollo will be staying here until about an hour or so before the ceremony. Just to be safe.”
I stopped myself from eye rolling again and grinned at my father.
“Sounds like a plan dad. Go grab that nurse.”
