“So…how was school?" my dad asked as he continued with his cooking. I was sitting at the kitchen island watching him while I did my homework. I had math homework. The funny thing was I sucked at math
“Good,” I said with my mouthful. I didn't have much fun. The day wasn't as I anticipated it to be (“tell him you met a boy”) Angela said mockingly. I had the urge to answer her but chose to ignore her
She was the most annoying person ever
“That good doesn't sound so good honey… did you make any new friends… signed up at a club, or maybe in a play or something,” my dad said, throwing a side glance. To be honest, Tom Jason was something else. My dad was the worst, he knew how much I hated after-school work
“Nope… I'd rather not…it's boring and not fun at all” I didn't sign up for anything, although the kids at my new school said it was mandatory
“Honey if you want to fit in…why not do something about it,” he said, turning to look at me. I was too much into eating my French fries to notice he was staring at me questionably
“Papa, I don't need that… plus this is small and has nothing to offer… I'll think about finding a library or something” I preferred spending my hours reading than throwing balls or pretending I was Juliet. Such childish things
“You know your mother would love to see you doing what you love”again, the only topic which made me lose my appetite. With a sigh, I placed the fork on the table and shoved the plate away
“Honey,
“Dad said softly, unfortunately he already triggered a sensitive nerve
“It's best if we… don't talk about it… I'll focus on school… I won't fail and…” I didn't even finish when there was a doorbell. Curious about whom it may be. Dad and I exchanged glances, he took off his apron and placed it on the hanger, and left the kitchen
It was early in the morning. I woke up early to finish my homework and later head to school. I concentrated on my work, guessing it was the newspaper guy or some other people. We just came here, dad and I hardly made any friends, but met some nice neighbors
“Hey, sweetie… you have a guest” my dad came back and said. Startled upon hearing him, I turned around nearly falling off my chair when I saw him
“Hi, Nellie, “it was the boy who said with a charming smile and waved at him. Swallowing, the food stuck in my throat. I didn't know what to do
“Um hi,”it was awkward, but I was stunned to see him
“He said he's your chemistry partner," her dad said, nodding at Daron. What was he doing here? I was short of words
“Umm…”
“Have a seat…you are just in time for breakfast” my dad shoved Daron on the chair before I could get rid of him. He was impossible. How did he find me and think I was only in my pajamas with messy hair?
“Thanks, Mr. Jason,” Daron said, grinning at me and sitting beside me. I was so dead. Did dad know who he was? Looking at my dad smiling while serving Daron. I wondered what happened to his rules of inviting boys over. I thought he hate the idea
“Okay… since you have company… I'll work in the garage,” my dad said and left the kitchen. Of course, he had to fix his truck at the wrong time. Now I was stuck with Daron
“What? Don't you like me being here?” Daron asked with his mouthful. I didn't appreciate how cute he looked while eating (“run Nellie, he's going to ask again”) Angela said as if mocking me. I sat there not sure what to do
“You have a lovely home… and a lovely father”daron said not sure if it was a compliment or an insult… clearly our house was nothing special, it was small
“Umm…thanks, but you didn't have to come here… I hardly know you” I said, avoiding his gaze. I didn't like his presence one bit. I was always afraid of these pretty boys with a flirty smile
“I thought we were friends… my bad my poor expectations''daron said with a small frown plastered on his face making me feel guilty. He came unannounced, I didn't even tell him where I lived
“How did you know I live here?” she asked after some time. Darin seemed to be thinking with a straight face but soon smiled
“Your scent” he simply said and my heart raced. Even if I had to get rid of him, how
“I…well… I don't know what you mean”I stuttered not sure what to say, scent could mean anything
“You entered our town without permission… I'm afraid those fancy perfumes didn't do much in hiding your real scent” Daron muttered, shifting his gaze to look at me. I was so nervous, my hands were trembling. I wanted my dad to be here, so he could throw daron out
“I don't… I don't know what you mean… This is just…”
“It is Nellie… the rules are the rules…” he cut me off, this time his expression was a serious one. I was caught in a pickle jar. For the first time, I was afraid. I thought the town didn't have any. How come it was easy for Daron to recognize me unless (“he's a wolf dummy, check out his aura…it's high ranking”) it was Angela who said and my eyes widened? Shifting my gaze to Daron. I wanted to run when he held my hand and shoved me down the chair
“Don't be afraid… I'm not going to hurt you… although I wonder… why you are hiding…” he asked, looking at me with narrowed eyes. I was bothered that my mouth went dry. This wasn't happening. How did he know I was a wolf? Did he also notice something else, “Which pack are you from… your scent is a little off?” Daron added, and my palms turned cold
The need to run kicked in what if those other wolves were here? Which pack did he belong to and how many werewolves were in the town
“Okay… I'm done… Nellie honey… you should be getting ready”my dad walked in just as I was going to ask Daron which pack ruled the town.
“Yes…yes dad… I'll get going”saved by the bell, I jumped out of the chair and stormed out of the kitchen. We needed to leave the town. My life was in danger, what, what if they found me again?
