Hidden Truths 2

Reuben, one of the members of the friend circle and also an orphan. Unlike the rest of the group, his life was pretty much an open book to the rest of the group as there was nothing much to hide. During their time growing up, his entire life had been opened up to them as he considered them the only family he had. He had been abandoned at the gate of an orphanage home at birth. From the appearance of things then, it was obvious such actions were carried out by the ones who bore him. It was the orphanage that has taken care of him since he was little. In fact, he was considered a very lucky child, which had earned him the ire of a few other orphans in the orphanage. Usually, if no one adopts you, the orphanage can only train you through primary school and then send you to a place where you can learn any handwork of your choice, so far it is within their budget for you. Once one had learned the handwork, they would be hooked up with a small amount of money to begin the handwork. With the money would also come a set of documents that require your signature. These documents would contain an agreement between the orphan and the orphanage home that, after a certain period of time, he is to begin paying a certain amount of money from time to time. This money is a form of compensation to the orphanage for raising you and also to generate more gains and interest to aid in taking care of the orphans still in the orphanage. The reason for orphans feeling jealous of Reuben was that he was exempted from all this process. Somehow, he seemed to have caught the attention of a certain someone who then paid the orphanage repeatedly every month. This money was for his well-being and other necessities. This person also supported him through school from the shadows, and so, unlike most other orphans, he was able to go as far as university entry. But surprisingly, it stopped. He originally thought that after his final year of exams at university, he would get to meet that person, and for some reason he desperately looked forward to meeting that person. Alas, maybe because his results weren't all that good or his decision to later pursue entrepreneurship, the person seemed to have disappeared. There seemed to be no sign that such a person existed in the first place. " Sigh..., I am already dealing with this and you lot want to give me another cause for the headache. Can't you guys stress me less " He muttered. A bottle of Coke was currently in his right hand and on the left was a piece of toasted bread. Beside him, on the chair he was sitting laid a nylon full of toast bread. This was the toast bread that the group were eating at Bethel's house just now, and the Coca-Cola was precisely one of the soft drinks that were in the house. It's obvious he grabbed them as he was leaving, since he was the last person to leave the house. Frank, who had already reached his house, stood at the front of its gate. He looked much better than previously as he had cleaned up himself before getting to this place. He very much knew that he couldn't let his parents see him like that after the fight with Reuben, or he might just give them a heartache. He wasted no time and went to his flat. After getting into the house, he surprisingly found out that his parents weren't home. If it were any other day, it would be normal that they weren't at home as they both had their various carriers to tend to, but the issue was that today was announced as a nationwide holiday. One acknowledged by the entirety of Nigeria and so even if they wanted to, they still couldn't go about with their business as they would neither be able to work nor get any customers. The only people who could operate freely today were owners of retail shops in the street as, no matter what, there might be an urgent need to purchase something and so the retail shops do get customers on holidays. The holiday was also the reason why Frank and his group of friends were able to gather together today, as they would usually be occupied with their various businesses. Frank, on confirming his parents' absence, immediately returned to his Stoic bearing. He no longer saw the need to restrict himself. He quickly took a shower and lay on his bed. Without much thought, he closed his eyes and sleep slowly drifted over. It didn't take any much longer for him to journey into the dreamland.
