"Mom, I'm back!" Kemmy announced, hastily dropping her belongings to change before anyone noticed her. Unfortunately, Shane, her brother, caught sight of her.
"What happened to your dress?" Shane asked, eyeing her attire.
"Nothing!" Kemmy replied, forcing a smile as she rushed to the bathroom to freshen up. She didn't want to reveal the incident to her brother, knowing his tendency to overreact.
After her quick washup, Kemmy met Shane sitting on her bed, wearing a mischievous grin.
"What's up?" she asked, annoyed by his intrusive behavior.
"Tell me what happened, Kemmy," Shane pressed, his eyes sparkling with curiosity.
"No," Kemmy replied curtly, drying her hair.
"I promise I won't react," Shane assured, blocking her attempt to fabricate a story.
Kemmy hesitated before sharing the truth. "I went to buy foodstuffs for Mom... and a guy bumped into me, spilling juice all over my dress."
Shane chuckled. "A 'he,' huh? Sounds like the beginning of a love story."
Kemmy rolled her eyes. "That's not the point, Shane."
"Was he handsome?" Shane teased.
Kemmy's face flushed. "That doesn't matter."
Shane grinned. "I guess telling Dad wouldn't matter either."
Kemmy relented. "Fine... he's quite handsome and cute, but very annoying!"
Shane burst into laughter. "Awwn, Kemmy complimented a guy! Wow, indeed it's a love story!"
Kemmy's annoyance grew. "Just leave my room!"
Just then, Harrison entered, greeting his wife. "Hey, sweetie."
Kate welcomed him warmly. "Welcome back, dear. How was your day?"
Harrison's expression turned somber. "I didn't get the job."
Kate reassured him, "It's okay, dear. Everything will work out."
Kemmy, who had been eavesdropping, intervened. "I'm sorry, Dad. Everything will be fine."
Harrison smiled, grateful for her support. "Your school starts Monday, and I'll get your requirements tomorrow. Don't worry."
Kemmy's face lit up. "Thanks, Dad. I love you both."
The rest of the day passed pleasantly, with Kemmy eagerly anticipating Monday.
On Sunday, Kemmy woke up early, completed her chores, and joined her family for church. They were introduced as new members, and by the end of the service, they had greeted most of the congregation.
Kemmy spotted Sonia and rushed to hug her. "Hi, Sonia! Happy Sunday!"
Sonia smiled warmly. "You too, Kemmy. How are you?"
Kemmy shared her encounter with the guy who bumped into her, leaving out no details.
Sonia laughed sympathetically. "I can imagine."
After church, Kemmy prepared for school, feeling nervous.
Monday morning arrived, and Kemmy stood outside her new school, taking a deep breath. "Kemmy, you can do this."
She entered the school gate, hoping to find Sonia. Fortunately, Sonia spotted her and greeted her warmly.
"Welcome to our school!" Sonia said, leading Kemmy on a tour.
As they walked, Kemmy admired the school's facilities.
Their science teacher introduced Kemmy to the class, and she awkwardly introduced herself.
The class laughed, and Kemmy felt embarrassed.
At lunchtime, Kemmy encountered the same guy who bumped into her.
"You again!" Kemmy exclaimed.
The guy smirked. "Hi, grumpy puppy."
Kemmy protested, "Don't call me that!"
In the dining hall, Kemmy met Cassie, a beautiful and wealthy girl who claimed the seat Kemmy occupied.
"Hi, sweetheart," Cassie said condescendingly.
Kemmy stood up, feeling belittled.
Cassie's friends whispered among themselves, "So rude!"
Cassie retorted, "What? Aren't you going to face your food?"
Kemmy ate quickly and left, annoyed.
Cassie felt triumphant, but Kemmy's encounter with her had only just begun.
In class, Kemmy clashed with Christian, the guy who bumped into her.
Jimmy, his friend, intervened, introducing themselves.
Kemmy remained unimpressed.
As school ended, Sonia comforted Kemmy. "Don't let Cassie get to you."
Kemmy fumed. "I hate this school!"
Sonia explained, "Cassie's background makes everyone respect her."
Kemmy scoffed. "Respect her? That's disgusting."
As they parted ways, Kemmy vowed to challenge Cassie's superiority.
