CHAPTER 1; The new environment.
It was 4 a.m., still dark, when Kemmy heard her name being called from the living room. Groggily, she mumbled to herself, "Kemmy, wake up! Time to pack; the bus will soon arrive." Upon hearing this, Kemmy sprang up with excitement, having eagerly awaited this day. She was tired of living in the village, which she affectionately referred to as such. Standing up, her average height and slender yet curvaceous figure became apparent as she smiled and stretched, showcasing her endearing features. She joined her family, the Harrisons, to pack belongings into boxes before the bus arrived. "Good morning, Dad; morning, Mom; hi, good morning, bro!" she greeted them with a smile as she helped load boxes into the car. Her dad, Harrison, and brother Shane, 21, handled the heavier items while Kemmy and her mom, Mrs. Kate Harrison, managed the lighter ones. Everyone was excited. Once packing was complete, Kemmy quickly bathed and dressed to join her family at the table. "This is our greatest achievement; at least Kemmy will finally have a better life," Mr. Harrison said, prompting laughter. "Dad, Mom, this is the best thing that's ever happened to me. I know we're not rich, but you've done everything to make us happy; thank you," Kemmy said, earning smiles from her family. "Let's eat quickly; we've wasted enough time," her mom urged. They ate hastily and soon departed. Shane was lost in thought when Kemmy interrupted him, "Shane, what's wrong? Where's your mind?" She noticed his distant gaze. "Nothing; I'm just bored and sleepy," he replied unconvincingly. "If you say so," Kemmy said skeptically, closing her eyes to sleep. Meanwhile, Shane worried about finding a job in their new location and fulfilling his girlfriend Haness's demands for a new wardrobe and hairstyle, which he couldn't afford. Haness was beautiful but also rude, inconsiderate, proud, and sometimes naughty and malicious. "Shane, when will you introduce your girlfriend to us?" his mom asked curiously. "Next week, Mom," Shane replied. His dad looked satisfied, "We're waiting!" After a long journey, they arrived at Manela, their new home, which, though modest, they loved. Following a tiresome unpacking session, everyone desired rest, but Kemmy was eager to explore. "Shane, wake up! Let's go out and see the surroundings!" she exclaimed. "Kemmy, I don't know the area; go rest. Aren't you tired?" Shane replied, half asleep. "Tomorrow, you can go with Dad's permission." Shane returned to sleep, frustrating Kemmy. "I know what to do," she smirked, returning to her room. Smiling, she drifted off to sleep, "My mission begins tomorrow!" Later, Harrison confided in his wife, Kate, "Everything seems overwhelming; finding a new job, securing Kemmy's school requirements... how will we feed the family?" Kate reassured him, "Don't worry; everything will work out if we believe." Harrison smiled, and they retired to bed. Harrison's past haunted him. His brothers, Johnel and Jake, cheated him out of his inheritance after their parents' tragic death in a plane crash. They claimed he didn't need anything, fueled by resentment toward their parents' favoritism toward Harrison. He was left with a mere 5% of the inheritance. Determined, Harrison started a business, later marrying Kate and building a life together. They had Shane and, five years later, Kemmy. Harrison shared his story with his children, fostering their disdain toward their uncles, who never offered help. The next day, Kemmy devised a plan to explore. "Mom, there's no water; can I fetch some?" she asked. Her mom raised an eyebrow, "Where do you know to get water?" Kemmy hesitated, "Uh... I'll ask around." Her mom relented, "Okay, Kemmy, but don't stay out too long." Kemmy met Sonia, a girl her age, who directed her to a nearby tap, ironically located just behind their house. Kemmy's plan was foiled. "Thanks!" she said awkwardly. Sonia noticed Kemmy's expression, "You're new here, right? Want to explore?" Kemmy smiled sheepishly, and they laughed. As they walked, Sonia shared that she was a house help with limited free time. Kemmy realized she'd found a friend. It was nearing noon, and Kemmy returned home with water, hoping her mom wouldn't scold her for being late. Later, Kemmy's mom asked her to fetch foodstuffs. "sorry to disturb you, but could you go down and get some groceries for me?" her mom asked, and Kemmy happily obliged. On her way back, lost in thought, Kemmy accidentally bumped into Christian. "Seriously?" she muttered angrily. "Can't you watch where you're going?" Christian smiled and retorted, "You weren't paying attention either." Kemmy looked up, taken aback, and her eyes widened in surprise. Her anger returned, and she snapped, "You're disgusting!" before swiftly walking away. Christian stood there, watching her leave, a smile still on his face. "She's beautiful," he whispered to himself before continuing on his way.
