He stood up for her

1381 Words
She wanted to hide her face again in Arthur’s chest, but the terror had seized her. She couldn’t move a muscle but watched the scene with a horrific expression. What the f**k was going on here? In the middle of the living room, Hunter was lying in the pool of his blood, his body wounded, blood dripping from his body everywhere. Arthur walked inside the living room with the same calm pace and slowly sat down on the single couch. Skye felt as if her heart lurched out of her mouth. Arthur didn’t put her down. Instead, he cradled her on her lap. She turned crimson red in just a second when she realized what had just happened. She came out of her trance when another whoosh sound crossed her ears, followed by a shrill and painful scream. She slowly looked back at Arthur, narrowing her eyes in fear and confusion. He wasn’t looking at her, but his face and eyes were still cold. His hand around her waist moved up and down a little without bringing any discomfort to her. “Please, have mercy on me, Uncle Arthur. I swear, I just wanted to scare Aunt Skye. I never asked them to drug her or …. Or to touch her.” Hunter Bishop, Arthur’s eldest sister Stella Bishop’s son and his nephew, cried in pain and agony, looking at Skye in desperation. He had been whipped for two days straight, and now he was on the verge of losing his mind at any time. Arthur forbade every family member to enter this part of the estate. That’s why no one, not even his mother, came to rescue him these past two days. Arthur didn’t react, just continued staring at the severely injured Hunter with a cold gaze. The warrior swung the whip again and thrashed it on Hunter’s back again. Hunter screamed aloud, collapsed on the ground, and spat a mouthful of blood. Skye trembled hard in terror and immediately hid her face into Arthur’s muscular chest. A sly and painful smirk crept on her lips, but she trembled on her shoulder to indicate that she was terrified. “Hunter.” Another shrill scream made Skye tremble again. Hunter’s painful moans and those wounds on his body brought immense pleasure to her, but she wasn’t naïve to believe that Hunter’s punishment had something to do with her. She believed that Arthur was doing this only to save his face in front of the world. After all, she is still his fiancée, and he would lose his reliability and his people’s trust if the world learns what happened to Skye. Hurried footsteps shattered the thick silence of the room. The stench of Hunter’s blood thickened. “What’s wrong with you? He is your nephew.” Stella roared at the top of her lungs, taking Hunter into her protective embrace. “That’s why he is still alive,” Arthur replied coldly. Skye trembled and slowly moved her face out again. Stella was now sitting on the floor with the semiconscious Hunter in her embrace; Stella’s husband, Alpha Nolan Bishop, was standing beside her with a grim and dark expression. “He is young, Arthur, and made a mistake. Is it necessary?” Nolan questioned, gesturing towards the warrior with a whip. “He paid rogues to kidnap my fiancée, let them enter the estate, jeopardize the security, take her away, and assault her. Is this a young pup supposed to do? Do you not understand the whole situation, or are you too dumb to understand?” Arthur questioned coldly. The room fell silent. Everyone except Arthur held their breaths, staring at Arthur in shock. Nolan was also an alpha and fifteen years older than Arthur. Arthur just insulted him as if he were scolding a low-ranking pack member. Stella’s face turned pale, but Skye was completely shocked. She was still trying to figure out why Arthur sent William to rescue her, and now he was not only punishing Hunter, but he also confronted Alpha Nolan too. She was shocked and confused. Hunter’s painful moan snapped her out of her trance. “And he is a year older than Skye. So, who is the young one here, Nolan?” Arthur questioned again. “You…… you never paid attention to her before, Arthur. What changed? Why now?” Stella questioned in a daze, still processing that for that mute, Arthur beat Hunter, her only son, into a pulp. “Because she is still my fiancée. Because no woman deserves to be assaulted by rogues just because she refused to serve some spoiled brats drink and food.” Arthur answered coldly, but every word coming out of his mouth was filled with anger and something darker that no one present in the room could pinpoint. The silence in the room was thick with disbelief and tension. Arthur’s face was still expressionless, but Skye felt the tension in his body. This was the first time in her life that someone stood up for her, and ironically, he was the one who gave up on her without blinking. Yet she felt warmth spreading in her chest. Even if it were because she was his fiancée, at least, he stood up. “You never paid attention to her before.” Stella still mumbled because she was still shocked. “Because I never thought that my family members would stoop this low that they would try to kill her.” Arthur answered instantly, his voice rising a bit, and so did the coldness in his voice. Skye clutched his shirt tightly, not understanding what he actually wanted to do. Mora was still sleeping. She didn’t know with whom she would talk right now. At the same time, heavy footsteps echoed in the corridor. Skye stiffened, but Arthur tightened his grip around Skye’s waist. The heavy aura pressured everyone present in the room. Warriors fell to their knees, craning their necks in submission. Even Stella and Nolan stiffened, but Arthur was still indifferent. “What’s going on here?” Arthur’s father, Alpha Ashton Froste, asked in a cold and heavy voice, entering the living room in slow, heavy, and confident steps. “Grandpa, save me.” Hunter cried in pain. Ashton Froste stopped at the entrance and looked at the people inside the living room with his narrowed amber eyes. Arthur got his features from his father. The same set of amber eyes and dark platinum hair, pale face, and the faces are almost identical to each other, but the fine lines at the corners of Ashton’s eyes and fine and dark lines on his forehead define his age. “You punished your nephew, your own blood, for a mute burden?” Ashton asked Arthur in a cold voice, infuriated by Hunter’s condition. “Ask him.” Arthur answered in the same tone. Skye listened to his heartbeat all the time – steady and strong. Not moving a bit here or there when Ashton entered or confronted him. “I….. I did nothing.” Hunter screamed, holding his mother’s arm tightly; his dark brown eyes were looking at Ashton with hope and desperation. Ashton looked at William, who was standing in a dark corner. William immediately came forward and bowed his head in front of the former alpha. “Alpha Hunter asked future Luna to serve him and his friends during a party four nights ago. She was taken there by force. When she refused, Alpha Hunter hired a few rogues, let them enter our pack and the estate without being noticed, and kidnapped future Luna. The rogues not only beat her and broke her ….. almost all her bones, including injuries on her skull, but also drugged her with wolfsbane and a very strong suppressant. To save her dignity, future Luna jumped off the cliff into the raging river on the stormy night three days ago. She almost lost her life.” William rattled everything out in one breath and breathed out loudly in the end. The room went still. Even I shuddered while listening to his frantic voice. William just briefed everything, but the whole ordeal came crashing on her mind at once. Arthur immediately pressed her gently to his chest and growled at William for scaring Skye.
