“Spit it,” Arthur asked him coldly after some time.
Albert gulped hard, but knew his alpha’s temper very well.
“It….. it was strange, Alpha. One second, the weather was destroying everything, and the next, everything was as calm as still water in a lake. Even the river water went still.” Albert told him everything that he witnessed truthfully.
“You mean to say that someone used sorcery or a kind of witchcraft on the atmosphere?” Arthur questioned coldly.
“No, not like that. More like someone controlled the weather, like….. like an elemental.” Albert speculated with a serious face.
Arthur furrowed his brow but said nothing.
He didn’t believe in coincidences, but the appearance of an elemental…..
“What else?” Arthur asked again, then went downstairs to the basement.
“A painful, commanding howl,” Albert spoke in a very low and cautious voice.
Arthur halted in his steps.
“Weak, but strong enough to be heard through the storm. Then everything went silent.” He added it in whispers.
Arthur’s brows knitted lightly, but he resumed walking.
“Investigate properly, and I want those kidnappers in cells by tomorrow evening,” Arthur instructed him coldly, opening the door of the basement.
The screams hit his eardrums like a tornado, making him shrink his nose, but it was only for a second.
He walked inside calmly, unbothered by all those screams.
In fact, those screams were like music to his ears.
After two days of kidnapping:
Skye groaned in pain, trying to move her body to get a comfortable position, but all her muscles screamed in pain, refusing to move.
Her throat was on fire. She could feel how dry her lips were, and her eyelids were carrying a ton of load on them.
“Mora,” Skye called her wolf, but sighed when she met with silence.
She didn’t make any move after that.
Her mind was completely blank, but her senses were still sharp.
The familiar scent of the room relaxed her.
She opened the gate of her memory lane, and the last memories hit her brain like a tornado.
She winced in pain, but the glimpses of what happened before she fainted, made her clench her jaw tightly.
Kidnapping….
Phone calls to her parents and her fiancée….
That brutal beating before she escaped……because they were about to assault her….
The cliff and then her jump….
Everything hit the memory lane like a fully loaded truck.
A mute burden…
Good riddance…..
This is what they called her….
She stiffened when the faint sound of the door opening hit her nostrils.
She sucked in a breath when his dominant and intoxicating scent of Woody musk and clove hit her nostrils.
There was a time when this scent made her feel so many weird things, but now….
All she could feel was chill running down her spine, seeping inside her bones.
“Kill her.”
This was what he said to those kidnappers.
“For how long do you want to keep your eyes close?” he asked her coldly, entering the room in a slow and deliberate pace.
He saw her eyelashes moving, but the pain on her face was enough to tell that she was in so much pain.
Skye scoffed internally but didn’t even try to open her eyes.
For them, she was just a mute burden.
“Keep your eyes closed. Out of sight, out of mind.” She enchanted it in her mind.
Her body stiffened when she felt a dip in the mattress.
“Get up. Drink some water.” He ordered her in the same way that he ordered others.
For the first time, Skye was annoyed by his presence.
In the past, she had always been scared of him, but now….
She wanted him to go away from her.
Arthur’s corners of mouth curled up when he saw that Skye didn’t make any attempt to open her eyes.
For the first time, the timid girl lying in front of her threw a tantrum, and he understood the reason very well.
Skye screamed in panic when he suddenly leaned and wrapped his hand around her waist, pulling her up, pressing her against his chest.
She tried to open her eyes in panic, completely startled by Arthur’s sudden action.
Arthur narrowed his eyes when he felt something strange about her voice.
“Her voice,” Grimm whispered, suspicious and intrigued by her voice.
Her throat was already so dry that the scream made her cough hard.
“Have some water first,” Arthur asked her, holding her small and frail body in his embrace by one hand, and a glass of water in his other hand.
He put the rim of the glass on her lips.
Skye drank a few sips to soothe her throat and get some ease in her cough.
Her whole body was aching badly. Mora tried her best to heal Skye to the extent that Skye stays alive, but others wouldn’t doubt her having a powerful wolf or her quick healing abilities.
“You are tough, huh? You fell from so high, and yet you came back alive.” Arthur remarked in amusement, but Skye stiffened.
She stopped drinking and slowly moved her head away.
She wanted to ask him if he was disappointed that she was still alive, but she knew that she had to keep this façade of being mute to avenge herself.
In the twisted and cruel power play, she was just a useless pawn for both her parents and Arthur.
She gently pressed her hands on his chest to move him away from her.
She wanted to lie down. The pain in her body was still unbearable.
“You need to come with me.” He said to her coldly and tightened his grip around her waist.
He was annoyed by her struggle. She was so frail and soft that he was afraid that he would hurt her if he pressed her body to his chest with some strength.
Skye winced in pain, digging her nails in the fabric of his shirt in the process, but he didn’t let go of her.
Instead, it made him sucked in a breath, but he needed to take her there.
She needed to see what happens to people who dare to lay their hands on his people.
“Don’t fight. Be good.” Skye stopped struggling, frozen by his tone.
Did he just try to coax her????
She refused to let this idea warm her frozen heart.
She assumed that she must have hit her head hard when she fell into the water from the cliff.
That’s why she was hallucinating about things that can’t happen.
Alpha Arthur Froste coaxed someone…
Not just someone, but her?????
The man wanted her dead.
She scoffed bitterly in her heart.
But the next second, panic surged inside her heart when she felt weightlessness, and the next second, her whole body was glued against Arthur’s sturdy and steel-hard chest.
She gripped his shirt tightly in fear.
The weightlessness that she felt when she was falling from the cliff crept into her heart immediately.
“Calm down. You are safe.” Arthur felt her fear, and it made him tighten his grip on her body.
Skye still didn’t relax. Her mind was replaying that scene in the back of her mind, making her tremble hard in fear and despair.
Arthur felt everything….
Her fear….
Her helplessness.
Her despair….
Her desire to save herself from those kidnappers….
He felt everything…. And it infuriated him…
But he kept his demeanour calm….
He walked out of the door with Skye in his arms in bridal style.
“Calm down, no one is going to hurt you again.” Arthur still comforted her; his voice was still detached and cold, but it snapped Skye out of her trance.
She smelled so many people around her.
She shrank in Arthur’s embrace, hiding her face on his chest, refusing to see anyone else.
But a fearful and shrill scream flinched her, and she immediately moved her head in that direction.
What she saw next made her eyeballs pop out of their sockets.
