Chapter Ten

Jonathan had decided to talk later to Cindy about her talk with his mom.

It's not like Jonathan didn't know that his mom didn't love him. He was very much aware of the sacrifices his mom had made to be where he was today.

He knew very well that whatever his mom was doing was only for his own good. Over the years when he was growing, he had seen his uncles and aunts make things hard for his mom during family gatherings. Just because his dad was already dead, those people believed that a woman couldn't run the company. He was one time thinking that his mom might just step down from the company but man he was so wrong, his mom had always stood her stand and never let anyone affect her.

He knew that his mom loved him only that her way of showing him that was through the strict upbringing that he got. He loved his mom too but couldn't find the confidence to let her mom know about it. It was amusing how he was always confident when facing his business partners or anything pertaining to business, but when it came to telling his mom about loving her for bringing him up singlehandedly, he couldn't face that.

He decided to make sure that his father's company was always the best just to show his mom that all the upbringing didn't go in vail. He had to always make his mom happy for him.

When Elizabeth Black got back in her car, she told the driver to drive back to the mansion since she wanted to rest. After seeing that there was a woman by his son's side, she was at ease. She was very well aware of the many women who were seen by his son's side. But knowing the man that she brought up by herself, she knew they were just for show and his son was still a pure man.

The blind dates she had been organizing for her son was for him to find someone whom he could like and maybe have a family together. Her son wasn't growing any younger and needed to get married in order to continue their lineage. She wouldn't want her husband's sweat to go to someone who was not of her husband's lineage. Her husband's legacy had to be carried by her son and her grandchildren.

The reason all the blind dates were all rich socialites was because she thought her son liked that type. She didn't think that her son would like someone as simple as Cindy.

She remembered her husband had once told her not to interfere with their son's marriage but to leave him make his decisions that was why she only organized the dates and never pushed her son to get married. She would never force her son in a loveless marriage after all her and her husband were very much in love when they had gotten married.

As long her son was happy with the woman that he chose, she'd never interfere. There family business was stable and wouldn't need any marriege alliance so even if it was a a very poor girl, she'd receive her with happiness.

When she heard that her son had gotten a female assistant she decided to make a trip to the company to see for herself. She was mesmerized by her beauty and gentle attitude. Cindy was never haughty or rude and she didn't try to impress her rather she was behaving like her usual self. That was what she had liked about Cindy. She seemed like she would make a good daughter in law if they got married.

Jonathan was so lost in thoughts as he gazed at the city from his office window that he didn't even hear Cindy come out of her office. He only came out of his thoughts when Cindy touched his shoulders. "Boss are you okay?" Cindy asked after gaining his attention.

Jonathan turned and took Cindy in his embrace. He snuggled his head in between her necka and shoulder as he inhaled her scent which surprisingly helped calm his emotions. Cindy was so surprised that she stiffened for a moment when she was suddenly hugged by him.

"Uh Jonathan, are you sure you're okay?" She asked again worriedly. She had came back so they could go to his lunch appointment that he had with one of his business partners. She didn't want him to be late since it was one of the most eligible partners. Since she was his assistant, she had to tag along even when she wanted to have lunch with Violet and Tyson. She really wanted to see the lovebirds.

"Yes, I'm okay. Just let me hold you for a while," he replied as he continued to hug her. If only he had the confidence to open up to his mom and talk to her like most loving sons would do. After hugging Cindy for a while and calming his emotions, he let her go as she kisses her forehead and said, "Thank you."

Cindy was surprised when she heard him thank her, she didn't even linger on the kiss she got on her forehead. She raised her head and looked at him, "Why? What for?" She couldn't help but ask. She hadn't done anything for him to thank her.

"Nothing, just for you being here," he replied with a gentle smile on his face as he caressed her cheeks lightly. That smile was so dashing that Cindy could feel butterflies in her stomach. 'This man is just so good. Before she could come back from her stupor, she felt him tug at her hand as he said, "Let's go, we have a lunch meeting to attend to."

He walked out of the office while still holding her hand. Cindy only regained her senses when they were almost at the door as she tried to pry her hands off her boss's but he didn't let go, he rather held on her tightly. Since he had received his mother's permission, he didn't mind seeing them holding hands, after all sooner, she'll be his.

Cindy decided to let herself be dragged by her boss and ignored the questioning gazes around them.

The lunch meeting was with a business partner, Mr Watson who was in his 50's. Though he was old, he still seemed energetic even with the white hair on his head. He had a piece of land that Jonathan had his interest in as he wanted to set up a seven star hotel in that place since it was was a good scenery almost next to the airport. It could be used by guests from the airport who didn't have accommodation.

Mr Watson had brought his younger daughter to his meeting. Since Jonathan was sti a single and a rich man, if his daughter could be able to gain his interest, then his business would flourish. But when he saw Jonathan arrive with a beautiful woman beside him, he was disappointed to have failed even before he started.

Cindy who saw the young woman was not even surprised. So this is matchmaking session or a business lunch? She was so amused.

"Mr Black, it's nice to see you again," he greeted when Jonathan and Cindy arrived at the private booth. "Yeah, it's good to see you too Mr Watson," he greeted back politely as he pulled out a chair for Cindy who was beside him and ignored the lady beside the old man. He didn't even spare her a look. Cindy muttered a thanks and nodded to the old guy before sitting down and Jonathan sat beside her.

"Uh Mr Black, if I may ask this is supposed to be a business meeting, why are you having company?" Thou he was still a respectable businessman, he couldn't go against Black Enterprises because he would be crushed.

"Mr Watson, you're allowed to bring company but I'm not allowed to bring even my assistant?" He retorted back.

"Oh forgive my manners, this is Emma Watson, my younger daughter, she just graduated from one of the most prestigious universities abroad with bachelor's degree in business management," he introduced his daughter shamelessly as if he didn't hear what Jonathan had said. His intention was so clear that even the most stupid person could guess from a glance.

Emma Watson who had been eye r****g Jonathan since he arrived greeted Jonathan in a gentle shy voice with a bright smile on her face and ignored Cindy. Jonathan only nodded as he called the waiter so they could order and let Cindy order for him. Cindy on the other hand wasn't surprised and took the menu as she ordered for Jonathan and herself.

She couldn't be bothered about the other woman.

After their orders were taken, Mr Watson and Jonathan got into business and even before the food could arrive, they had already reached a deal and signed the contract. Thanks to Jonathan's business and persuasion skills.

When their orders arrived, both parties not concentrated on eating. Emma thought it was her chance to make some conversation with Jonathan. All her efforts were futile since Jonathan was only focused on cutting steak and putting on Cindy's plate or picking food and putting on her plate.

Emma was so angry that her neatly manicured nails were deeply cutting her flesh as she clenched her hands. She's just an assistant, what's so good about her?

Cindy who could feel someone glaring daggers at her and wasn't even bothered as she continued to eat the food served by her boss. It was such a nice feeling to be served by a handsome man like him, who would turn such a man down? Definitely not her.

At the end of the meeting, Jonathan shook the old man's hands wishing each other a good corporation as he left with Cindy with his hand on her lower back.

Mr Watson could only watch walk away half heartedly.

He had signed the contract with Jonathan and couldn't do anything about it. If he could've know, maybe he might have bargained with Jonathan to only sign the deal after going on a date with his daughter, but he thought too late.

Plus the woman beside Jonathan seemed to have much importance to him, maybe she would be his future wife just from the look of things.

His dauughter couldn't even interest Jonathan and his thoughts of ever being in laws with the Black's went like that. Maybe he should look for other potential men since Jonathan seemed to be out of the picture.

"She's just an assistant, what's so good about her?" Emma couldn't just let it go like that. She was fuming with rage. Jonathan didn't even spare her a glance apart from nodding at her in greeting. She was so mad and jealous at Cindy who had the man's full attention throughout the whole meal.

"She's working at Black Enterprises, meaning her education background is not that simple. Not everyone can work in that place without proper education. Don't get muddle headed and let it go." He didn't want his daughter to offend a man like Jonathan.

He could only console his daughter that she would find a nice man and left the hotel.

Jonathan and Cindy after leaving the hotel, went back to work since there were still other pending works and appointments at the office.
