Sophia's POV
I could feel the emptiness in his words. Nathan had a ruthless attitude, but not towards me. He sounded rude to me, right in front of everyone.
All I wanted was to wake up from this nightmare, in the warmth of his hands, with him saying that it was all a dream.
I stared at his parents but their smiles turned into a frown. It felt like I had come only to sabotage their son's engagement. Well I wouldn't blame them, they saw me as a mere secretary, and I never got the chance to officially introduce myself.
Nevertheless, I still felt betrayed. An hour ago I was the only person that mattered to him, but right now he didn't even care if he hurt me. This is just too much for me, or even for anyone.
"Nathan please!" I cried out, trying to reach out to him, but he pulled away, completely avoiding me.
"Don't touch me." He voiced angrily.
"And to make things clear, this would be the last time I dare see your face around me. I can't take in someone as rude and disrespectful as you are."
"In other words, You are fired.”
“Security! Get this thing out of my sight!"
Each word felt like a venom, stinging deep in my heart. Why? I cried out. What did I ever do to deserve this? I loved him, I cared for him, I stood by him. And now this is all I get in return.
His bodyguards came over to my seat, as soon as he commanded them.
“You need to leave now.” The guard commanded respectfully.
“Please Nathan Plea-” Before I could finish, I was shamefully dragged out of the event space. Everyone's eyes darted at me, including those within and outside. The hotel guard joined in making sure I didn't get in.
My purse was handed over to me, thankfully it wasn't thrown out. It was given to me by Nathan's guard, even if he knew me, he still had to follow orders. I tried to force my way in again but he stopped me.
“Please ma'am, you should leave.” He said firmly.
Tears cascaded down my eyes as I stood there, watching him. I didn't know what to do or who to go to, and besides, everyone I knew was under him. I built my whole life with him.
I headed towards the Hotel gate, and on reaching there, I called my driver to pick me up, only then I realized that it was the company's car and driver, and I had lost access to them. Dang, how could I be so stupid?
I gathered my s**t together and headed to a bus stop, eyes all over me, I guess it's because of the mascara destroyed by my tears.
I got into the bus, and the attention I got was making me uncomfortable. I just stared out the window, hiding my face from them.
I was still trying to take in all that had happened when a call came in, I just stared at the screen, it was Leah, my assistant, or should I say my ex-assistant.
I purposely ignored the call. It rang again this time, I just had to get my s**t together and answer.
“Hey, Leah!” I said, trying to hold back my tears. Although the cracks from my voice were imminent.
“Sophia, what happened? It's all over the news.”
“Wait! What's all over the news? I clenched my dress, waiting for her response.
“It's about you and Nathan, it has gone viral, with several claims and accusations.
My eyes widened in disbelief, this can't be, the tears I held back came rolling down. I stared at everyone on the bus, their faces full of disgust. I guess whatever must have gone viral wasn't a good thing. I quickly ended the call trying to see for myself.
Then I saw a video of him when he chased me out. The caption displayed, “Another Gold digger caught and exposed, State's Billionaire says, I locked on to the write-ups beneath it.
Wait! That's not true, none of this is true, I stood up even before the bus came to a halt, and I made sure that I was the first to leave. This can't be happening, I wished the ground could just open up and take me in.
I came down a minute's walk from our estate, I moved quickly, trying to get into my apartment, avoiding further embarrassment.
With Nathan's wealth, everyone was interested in his personal life, they wanted to know his ins and outs. And with what happened, I didn't expect anything less.
I reached my door and tried to get in, but my key card was denied. Wait! What? I kept trying several times but it kept beeping red.
I called the estate's services. To my surprise, they said I no longer had access to the apartment, and I needed to come to their storehouse to pick up all my properties.
Could this day get any worse, tears began welling up in my eyes again, I tried calling Nathan but he ended the call on his end. I kept on trying hoping he would pick but soon after I got blacklisted, I couldn't get to him again.
I know it's his company's estate, but he couldn't have been so heartless to lock me out. Tears slowly rolled down my cheeks.
At least, he should have let me spend the night here before leaving. With everything that had gone wrong, I just turned over and sat on the doormat, while sniffling, ignoring the neighbours that came out staring at me.
My face was pale with no trace of life in it. I had already run out of tears, and I was certain that it was the worst that could happen today.
After a few minutes, I stood up and walked towards the estate's storehouse, suddenly, three vans pulled over consecutively, journalists and cameras everywhere. I temporarily got blinded by their flashes, I knew they had come because of what happened between me and Nathan.
“Is it true that you've been fired from Nathan's Enterprises?”
“How will you handle this sudden change? Will you get revenge on him?”
“What happened between you too?”
I was stunned and at the same time frightened by most of the questions. At this point, I just wanted everything to come crumbling down on me.
Suddenly a black Ferrari pulled over in front of me. It had dark-tinted glass.
The passenger’s door went open, and then I heard a familiar man's voice.
“Come on, get in quickly!”
