Chapter 3

1188 Words
Sophia's POV I stared at the driver trying to figure out who it was. The light from the flashes temporarily blinded me, and then I realized, It was my Dad, Richard, What was he doing here? My Dad was the last person I expected to show up here. “Come on Sweetie, get in!” He said, revving the engine. I quickly entered, trying to hide the fact that I had been crying. As soon as I shut the door, he drove off the estate, leaving behind the little I had gathered as my property. We kept on moving for a while until we came to a stop at a checkpoint, and then he broke the silence. “I know you might be thinking about how I got to know your location.” He said, tilting his head towards me. “But it's all over the news, the journalist and all.” I turned my head, looking out through the window, I didn't have anything to say, I just felt embarrassed, at least I wasn't surrounded by crazy people this time. “I would have handled it myself, Dad, you didn't have to pick me.” I reprimanded him. “It's okay sweetie, But I'm taking you home.” He said taking the turn towards the airport. “Your name, your identity, your image, it has all been tarnished, so even if you stay, no one would offer you any help or services. ********** We arrived home after an hour's flight, and being the only child Richard had, I was given a chance to have all the good things anyone could wish for. But I wanted a different life, I wanted a life where I had control over all my actions. And that's what got me working under Nathan, even if I ended up getting fired. Same time I still didn't want to stay under the watch of my father. He's the clingy type always meddling with my business. But that wasn't the only reason, I wanted to be independent and have my wealth not under anyone's name. “Dad! I appreciate your help and support, but I don't think I can stay here with you.” "Why sweetie!" His smile gently fades away. " But you just got here and now you want to live.” "Where do you want to go?." “How will you cope?" “And besides, who will take in someone who just got fired from one of the country's largest business industries?” “You have to put all those into consideration, baby.” He said giving me a stroke on my hair. I shrugged, tilting my head down, followed by memories of Nathan's betrayal flooding my mind again. “I know but … I don't know what to do." tears welled up in my eyes again. “It's okay sweetie, you can work under me.” He suggested while wrapping his arms around me."I know I'm not a billionaire like Nathan, but I have several multi-million dollar companies.” “You can choose to work under anyone you want and in any position you prefer.” He exclaimed. “Thank you, Dad." My heart raced with joy. I wouldn't have to go through hell starting all over again. But then, I want to start on my terms and become independent and I need to get away from him. I raised my head, staring at him intently. “I'll do it Dad, but only one condition." His eyebrows dented downwards in concern, and then he asked, “Which is?" “I wouldn't want to work in this city, I want to stay far away from anyone, where I can be on my own and live in my own way.” He smiled looking down at his phone. “Is that all?" I felt puzzled by his reaction, but then I answered. “Yes, that's all." "That's not a problem dear. I bet you and Alex will get along well.” I frowned, "Who's Alex?” "He'll be your new CEO,” he responded. ********** It's been two weeks since I left Nathan. My life hasn't been any better, even with all my dad's wealth, it still couldn't fill the blank space Nathan left behind. I've been having sleepless nights lately, most times feeling dizzy, but I still need to live without him, yeah I missed him and it hurt, but things have changed now. I need to be strong, I said to myself as I stood in front of one of my dad's company, it was stunning but looked nothing like where I worked before. As soon as I entered, a man welcomed me in. “I guess you must be Miss Sophia." He exclaimed in a welcoming tone. “Yes, I am," I answered softly. “You're welcome ma'am, let me show you around, afterwards, I'll take you to your office." He said. After I settled down, I went ahead to Alex's office, according to my dad, "My new CEO," and how will I get along well with someone I've never even seen before? As I approached the door, I gave it a firm knock before pushing it open. As soon as I went in, I saw a man, standing with a confident posture right at the window. He had well-groomed hair, and his well-carved physique was visible even with his suit on. He turned around, taking a glance at me, and that was when I saw his strong jawline and well-defined cheekbone. He f*****g had a glass skin. I froze, being overwhelmed by his appearance. “Good Morning Sophia.” He said, giving off a charming smile. “Have a seat please.” His voice was so deep and captivating. “Good morning Alex,” I responded with a smile. “I've heard a lot about you Sophia.” He complimented. I felt a pit in my stomach. I hope it isn't my past, I thought to myself. “Your Dad and I have been in touch and he also mentioned that I'll get along well with you.” He continued. “Do you know why?.” He asked, heading over to a mini fridge. “No I don't, My dad said the same thing to me,” I answered. “Alright, do you care for a drink?” He asked, “I hope you won't turn down my first offer?” I smiled, glancing at him, “I'm sorry but no please, I've been feeling lightheaded, I don't want to add to it.” I felt my mouth watering up, I quickly covered it with my hands, tilting my head down. “Are you alright, Miss Sophia?” He asked intently. “Please can I use your restroom?” I asked. “Sure, go ahead!” He responded. I quickly stood up, finding my way to the restroom sink, before I could realize it, I had thrown up all over it. What the f**k is happening to me? “No no no!” “Oh God! Please no!” “I'm pregnant! What am I going to do?”
