Princess charming

Fall was setting in, bringing with it what Corrine loves most, it’s beauty. As usual she was seated by the window on her window seat, staring out and admiring the garden like she does everyday. What she loves most about the palace was her room and the fact that it overlooks the palace garden, it’s like the best sight to wake up to every morning and she was grateful she had it. Being born a royalty was not her choice, while she loves her parents and siblings, she was sick and tired of being in a constant spotlight as a princess. In a week’s time she will be twenty one and on that same evening she will be engaged to Prince Carlos Montez II, heir to the throne of his kingdom and heir to a long line of generational wealth. She sighed again, the whole media craze and intensity will just increase, if she ever gets engaged to Prince Montez II, she’ll never know or have a peaceful time to herself or ever know what it feels like to be a normal person. “I hate all of this, I hate this dress, I hate this crown, I hate this palace...” she paused ”well except my room though.....” “I’m glad you at least don’t hate your room” Startled she turned to look towards her door and saw her mother looking at her with a bemused look. “I did not hear hear you come in” “Oh of course you wouldn’t have darling, you were so deep in your thoughts and hatred for the royal life” She managed a small smile and her mother laughed “What brings you to my room mother?” “Can’t I just come to say hello to my most favorite daughter in the whole world?” “I’ll let you know what Camilla thinks about this new title mother” she replied drily Her mother laughed again. “You were conspicuously missing from breakfast this morning, did that have anything to do with the Montez having breakfast with us?” “You know me so well mother” her voice was dripping with sarcasm and sass. “Now my little girl” her mother sat besides her and slowly stroke her hair “don’t get so sarcastic with me, tell me what’s bothering you “ “I don’t want to marry him mama,I don’t want to be a queen or a princess, I just want to be a normal girl. Did you see what the tabloids were talking about me last month? Pure lies mama, I’m just tired of being in a constant spotlight” “But darling, that’s who you are, I’m sorry you’re feeling this way but I’m sure you’ll get used to this” she paused and looked at her daughter over “you are still a fine young girl, all this will be a part of you and you won’t be so bothered about them as you grow older, you’ll see” “But I don’t want it to be a part of me! I was born into it and for almost twenty one years I have lived it mama, I don’t like it” she angrily wiped off stray tears. If there is anything Corrine hate the most, is crying in front of anyone, crying shows weakness and she was not a weak girl. “I feel choked up mother, sometimes I look outside of my window and wonder how it’ll be to be a normal girl, that can walk down the road, to the market or to go shopping with friends.... just doing normal things mama” she paused then continued “I’m a graduate but I guess I’ll never know what it is like to work in the outside world right?” She laughed in a sarcastic way. “Your elder sister is doing just fine Corrine, I think you’ll get used to all this soon, as you grow older just like her” “Camilla was made for the princess lifestyle mama, can’t you see how much she adores the attention and does her duties happily? I for one can’t stand it when every corner I turn to, cameras are going off in my face” she sighed “the only place I’m like myself is in this room, it’s like my own sanctuary, do you understand mama?” “Sure I do sweetie, although I’m not so sure about that attention part you said because I can still remember you enjoying pulling attention to yourself when you were just a little baby girl “ “Mamaaaaaa.....” she turned to face her but her mother was already laughing she joined and they had a good long laugh. Then she sighed and dropped her head on her mother’s shoulder, her mama intertwined their fingers together, kissed her forehead and asked “so what do you plan on doing, hide in here forever?” “Or run away” “Now you know you can’t do that darling, the media will follow you wherever you go to” “Not if I go very far away from here, change my identity and stay low” Her mother looked at her amused “what have you been watching my darling girl?” “That’s not possible to do you know, your father, the Montezs and look at your hair color!! How do you intend on changing your identity?” “That’s why I said I’ll run away mother, leave a note for father and you and you’ll pretend to know nothing about this” Her mother laughed heartily again “come my dear, let’s go for a walk so you’ll clear up your pretty head and forget about all this”. Her mother stood up and held out her hand for her daughter, Corrine hopped down and took her mother’s hand. “And what have you eaten all morning?” “Nothing mama” Her mother fake gasped “to the kitchen now young lady and where in earth is your royal keeper?” “I sent her off to take a walk” “You did what?!!” “giving orders now? And you hate the royal life” her mother made a face at her “She was in my space mother!!” Corrine replied laughing, she absolutely loves her mother, moments like this often make her wonder how they would have been if they were a normal family, just if she sighed.
