I sat on Russell’s offer for a couple days before I decided to talk to Briella about it. I wanted her in my life, and that meant asking her to help me make the decision. I asked if I could stop by late Wednesday night, after Kyle was in bed. She replied that he’d be asleep by eight-thirty and that she’d leave the door unlocked. She was in the kitchen when I walked in, pulling a cake out of the oven. I closed the door silently behind myself and toed off my sneakers.
