My heart started to malfunction. The heat, it felt as if I was burning from the inside out, I could the whispers, gasps and arguments from people who have gathered around me since I shifted. It got harder to breathe properly, I’m confused and overwhelmed. The only place I could look into was a pair of mismatched eyes that stared into mine inquisitively.I was sacred and shaky, my limbs refused to move like I was placed under a spell. The moon slowly turned returned to it’s original color and I felt my head spin before my body hit the ground or so I thought. The ground shouln’t have mismatched eyes and a warm body, right?
“Remember this love, you came to me.” Those words were on repeat till darkness consumed me and I allowed it.
My head was about to split open. The loud ringing of the tower bell pulled me out of my dream and for some odd reason, I could not remember what the dream was about. My ears picked on every little sound, distant bickering, birds chirping, footsteps, sweeping ….. someone approached the door. I sat upright and got of the bed. Where am I? I looked around the extravagant royalty room. Whose room is this?
The door opened and a maid walked in and bowed to me. “Good morning, Lykos. Breakfast is ready.” she greeted in a thick irish accent. I nodded nervously and bowed my head in response. Lykos? What is Lykos? s**t! I never paid attention in history class or any class at all. The maid was still in her bent position which made me frown. Am I supposed to do something?
“You will be eating with the rest of the royals downstairs, Lykos. Your presence is greatly needed.” she spoke from below. Royals….royals?! as in the alphas of all west cove and king of alphas…..
“Will Alpha kaiden ……”
“Yes, Lykos. He is eagerly waiting to see you.” she answered but I’m not comfortable with the name she called me. She must be confused.
“Please rise,” I begged and she did in an instant. Her face stoic and attitude, informal. “Actually, my name is-”
“We can’t keep the royals waiting for you for too long,”
My eyes widened in panic. “Waiting?! you should have said that first! Lead the way!” I said that, yet I dashed forward.
“You aren’t properly dress-” her voice drifted off as I picked up my pace with my nothing but an oversized shirt on my body. I followed my senses and by my senses, I meant my sense of smell. I smelt of him, the shirt must belong to him and it was his scent I followed till I got to the large dining hall. I halted at the top of stairs and suddenly realized how foolish I was to attend a royal breakfast without a proper appearance in a hall filled with at least twenty beautifully and elegantly dressed people. I took small steps back in an attempt to return to the room. I turned back and almost screamed if he hadn’t place a hand to cover my mouth. My frightened eyes met his mismatched eyes that only twinkled of mischief, my heart began to race wildly.
“I feared you never wake from your sleep,” he began with a sly smile, “let’s not keep them from waiting any longer, lets go.” and he pulled me by my right wrist and transported me right below the long stairs. Eyes fell on us and my heart sized, I felt his hot breath on my neck the next second and he whispered, “Breathe, kitten” I automatically exhaled. What the? I looked up to meet a sly smirk on his face. He led the way and I followed like a wet barefooted kitten behind him till we go to the seats available for us which was two but before I could seat on the other chair, I got pulled again and landed on his legs. I tried to stand but his grip on me was too strong. He breathed into my ear again, “Want to make a scene?” I shook my head subtlety. “Good girl,” I could have sworn my heart skipped a beat but I was also burning with rage. Who does he think he is?
Breakfast began and the only thing that could be heard were the sound of cutleries meeting the plates and the quiet slurping of wine and juices. I was really hungry but he fed me little bites of everything and it continously got on my nerves.although I tried to play it cool but I could senses the gazes they threw at me and I could also hear some thoughts. How? I don’t know. Some called me daring, foolish, ugly, lucky, spectacular, impressive. None of those word had an effect on me till I heard the word, ‘runt’ I paused chewing on the grapes and searched for her. She sat by Brain’s side and glared at me with those decieving doe eyes. Her lips didn’t move but she said it again. ‘runt. No matter what she is, she is still a worthless runt”. My hands formed a fist as I forcefully gulped down the insults that stayed on my tongue down with the grape juice and resumed chewing.
“Not all can hear your insides voices, let’s be vocal with our thoughts and end this meeting so we can all return to our homes. Some of us haven’t had the time to attend to our mates,” he spoke with an underlying threat in his tone. From his choice of words, can he hear thoughts too? I wondered but when I looked up at his face, he looks perfectly calm and collected and that scarred me more.
“First of all, I want to say congratulations on finding your mate, Alpha Kaiden. It so happened that she is a white wolf, a Lykos. The one chosen by the moon goddess herself to led us in her stead.” Alpha Reed was the first to stand from his seat and raised his wine glass. His face was bright with happiness but I knew it was all a facade. “It is only right that a lycan hybrid as yourself is mated to a white wolf. This is a sign that we will no longer be oppressed by other beings that are after our Seline stone. With the white wolf by your side, we can all rest assured.” he continued with that fake smile still plastered on his face. All the while, Brian has had his eyes on me for long, I could feel it but unlike others, I could not hear his thought and it angered him. I desperately wanted to hear what was going on in his head.
