Cath came home and called out, “Zara. Where are you?”
Zara wiped her hands on her apron and walked out of the kitchen. “In the kitchen preparing dinner.”
“This is so exciting!” Cath waved an issue of the Daily Task Force in her hand and showed it to Zara. “They are asking for donations of handkerchiefs and candies for the children in Berlin.”
Zara took the news bulletin and read the short article about Operation Little Vittles. “What a nice thing to do.” Her mind wandered back to Berlin with all the undernourished and stick-thin children who barely scraped by even before the blockade. She shivered at the notion of how much worse the situation must have gotten. It would do them good to catch some candy dropping from the planes, if only to reassure them the world had not forgott
