The Princess of The Moon

THE BEGINNING..... It was a cold night. All the nobles gathered in expectation of the new baby. It had been hours since the news got out that the Moon goddess was about to birth a child. “What's taking so long?" Reno, the Army General, impatiently asked. This caused all the other nobles to murmur and mumble. Reno stood up and stormed to the goddess' inner chamber, where she was screaming in pain. The guards tried to stop him, but he was the army general. He beat up the guards and went past them into the room. As soon as he flung the door open, all eyes turned to him. The goddess' sisters, the midwives, including the goddess herself, stopped screaming and looked at him. “How dare you! What are you doing here? Get out! Get out" The goddess screamed at him in anger coupled with the pain she was feeling from child birth. As soon as the goddess finished screaming this, she felt a sharp pain in her stomach. “Its coming! The baby....is coming" she screamed. She didn't notice Reno slip away from the room in fear. Hearing this, the midwives gathered around her and a few minutes and pushes later, the baby was born. The midwives took her and wrapped her in a cloth. They gave the baby to the goddess and she cooed her daughter, smiling and rocking her to quiet. “She's a beauty, just like you, Your Highness. I wonder why she took so long in coming out." Mara, her sister said. At hearing this, the smile on the goddess' face disappeared as she remembered Reno and his actions. The fact that a man she despised so much had the chance of seeing her bare body annoyed her to the core and this time, she let her anger get the better of her. She was so angry that she didn't want to hold her child, so she gave her over to her sister, Mara to hold. She then asked to be cleaned up and then left alone. She laid down after everyone had left the room, and thought of a way to punish Reno while still being lawful and fair. ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ By the next day, she stormed into the court, where all the gods, goddesses and nobles had already been sat, hoping to congratulate the goddess. “Your Highness,...." Yesi, the Administrative head began. “Where is Reno?” She demanded. “Is there an issue. Your Highness? Yesi asked. The moon goddess became quiet at the annoying questions Yesi was posing at her and she was trying not to lose her temper. “Well, We could look for him right away, if that's what you desire." The guards at the door were ordered to look for Reno. In the mean time, the nobles kept posing questions at the goddess, hoping to find out what had transpired between the goddess and the war lord before his arrival. Despite the unending questions, the goddess said nothing. The guards dragged him into the throne room while he thrashed around like a child, fighting to be let go of. The dropped him at the goddess' feet and he looked up at her in fear. “Forgive me, spare me! I've been loyal to you! Spare my life” He pleaded with tears and sweat streaming down his face. The Moon goddess rose form her throne and so did all the other nobles. Walking up to him, she looked down at him. and said, “You have committed a great crime but seeing my nakedness." Hearing this, the nobles gasped and expressed their shock and disappointment at Reno. “For this, I curse you and your descendants. Every male that will come from your loins will never be able to see their wife birth a child. In order for this to happen, every male that will come from you will serve at the war front. They will die in battle before the child is born. This will continue, until they find my daughter and see her nakedness, just as you have seen mine.” She declared. After saying this, she placed her hand on his head and as soon as she removed it, a mark shone on his fore head and he fell to the floor. “This mark will continue to be on all the heads of your male descendants, until the day my daughter lifts the curse". After saying this, she left the throne room. As she entered her room and sat on the bed, she heard a knock on the door. Her sister entered. She was probably here to talk about her punishment for Reno. “I hear you've placed a curse on Reno." Mara started. “Yes, I have. Punished severely for his idiocy". She remained quiet after I said this. I looked at her and knew she had something on her mind. “Say it." I demanded of her. “Its nothing, its just that, you haven't dealt with the reason all this happened in the first place.” She explained. I looked to her to continue what she was saying. “The baby, you're just going to let her go?" She asked. I was so confused. What was she saying? “What're you saying?" I asked her. “I'm saying that the child has to pay for what she has done. She has let your status be insulted and has reduced you to a mere woman before man. Besides, the child is mortal. It's not like she can take after you. She means nothing to this family." I turned and looked at her and shook my head in disbelief. “Get out. I can't believe you would suggest such an atrocious thing. Place a curse on my own child. Out! before I place a curse on you". I screamed at her. I turned around and walked to the window. She placed her hand on my shoulder and turned me around. I didn't understand the thing I was feeling inside me. All of a sudden, I fell asleep.
