“The casino”
“What about it?” I ask.
“They made Rodin an offer to buy it, and he refused,” Giuseppe replies.
“Damn, these troublemakers! They never learn,” I affirm.
“Why not go and rest. It’s been a rough day. Early tomorrow morning I’ll give you everything you need to handle this, okay?” Giuseppe assures.
“Okay”
It’s 5:00am and I’m already up. I overhear Giuseppe speaking in Italian over a phone call, making arrangement for the vans and amo.
Aldo has already arrived with a grey jeep Chevrolet. It’s older and scratched with dark tinted windows and New York plates. It certainly doesn’t pull attention and is heavily armored.
He jumps out and sprints to the other side of the garage. He and the other security staff will take the remaining cars and spread out in different directions.
“They’re at The Belman’s,” Giuseppe announces. “Anthony just got footage of some of them going in.”
“Alright boys,” I nod to Giuseppe who takes off his hat and wears it again at once.
I look into the mirror at the balcony for a moment before stepping towards the car.
“Why you shaking your head?” Luca asks. “Afraid you’ll get your ass kicked, eh?”
“I don’t think I can bear with this anymore,” I mutter to him.
“What do you mean?”
“Don’t you think life is beyond guns and…and bullets?” I ask.
“What exactly are you trying to insinuate? We should end the family business?”
“No, but come on do we have to keep dealing with one hassle after another?”
“I thought you loved it,” Luca remarks.
“I still do. But man…can’t we look at this objectively?”
“Hmmm, you better not let Don hear this.”
Click click! Luca, already wearing his mask c***s his gun. I follow suit, only that I don’t use masks. Luca uses one for a reason.
We step out of the car. “Get down all of you,” I instruct as we barge the restaurant pointing guns.
“On your knees!” Luca echoes.
Other of my men walk in as well.
“Search the area,” I instruct.
“Y’all put your phones in this bag,” Luca walks round collecting the phones of all civilians in the bar.
“Clear”
“You mean they’re not here?” I ask.
“Yes sir, it’s all clear,” one of my men affirms.
“f**k!”
BOOM!!!
“What’s that?” Luca asks.
As we step outside, we find one of the cars burning and two of our already stationed snipers dead.
“It’s an ambush!” Aldo screams. “Get in.”
We jump into the car and a series of bullets thud against the car.
“That was close,” Luca says, laughing.
“Aldo, turn around,” Luca instructs. “Let’s make this a lot of fun for Vince to miss.”
“He’s still angry with me.”
“Let’s face what’s in front of us now.
Tires screech. As we drive towards the gunfire, we begin firing.
“FIRE!!!” I shout with rage.
Rat-a-tat-a Rat-a-tat-a
“There are three vehicles,” I assert into my EEK014. “Luca and I will take down the one on the right. Jack and Verdi!”
“Yes sir” I hear them through my EEK014.
“Take down the ones on the left and middle respectively,” I continue. “Aldo don’t stop moving at any point. Speed is our weapon.”
“Roger that, sir”
“Copy that, boss”
Luca and I lower the windows and continue firing back.
“Ouch!” I yell. “My left arm.”
“f**k!” Luca screams. “We need to finish this, man. Don’t stop.” He taps my right shoulders to get me going.”
“One vehicle down, all dead,” Jack exclaims.
“All dead on our end,” Jensen asserts. “Verdi, what’s going on?”
From afar I see Verdi get close with his accomplice towards the vehicle. Others watch the terrain for any signal. “There’s no one here.”
“Verdi, take cover immediately!” I scream.
Bullets are fired from the corner of the street.
“Two men down. Verdi is badly wounded,” a distorted voice on my EEK014 says.
“f**k!”
Aldo turns around. “Jack, get to safety with the others. Let’s handle this.”
“On it.”
“The vehicle in the middle is moving. It seems they’re following us,” Aldo says, looking at the rear mirror.
“s**t! Get low!” Luca instructs as the rear glass shatters behind us, leaving the back open.
Tires screech as Aldo tilts the vehicle.
We fire back.
“Their driver is down,” Aldo announces as he looks through the rear mirror. We hear a loud crash. But the firing does not stop.
We fire back. “They’re about four,” Aldo says. “They’re escaping on foot.
Aldo reverses the vehicle.
Bang! Bang! “f**k! I’m out of amo,” Luca groans.
“This is the worst time for that,” I assert. “I have four bullets left. Let me end this.”
“Stay safe, Jensen,” Luca says as I run off on foot.
From the corner of the street I find four of them running towards the bus station.
Bang! “One is down,” I speak into my mic. Aldo and Luca are still on.
As I pursue the other three, they fire back.
“f**k! My left arm again!”
I shoot one in the leg so he begins to limp, slowing all three down.
I hurry to the bus station to get them before they escape. I fire two shots to no avail. It only hits a bus. They fire back. I hide behind a bus which recieves all their incoming bullets, shattering the glasses as I take cover.
“Jensen, what’s happening over there?” Aldo asks over my EEK014, his voice distorted.
I get on top of the bus and take a shot. “Another is dead.”
The bus moves. I hold on to it to avoid falling. I hear passengers screaming helplessly.
I look behind to see two men firing at me, one leaning on the other, which only increases the screams in the bus. “We’re gonna get killed!”
As the bus diverts, bullets fade into the distance.
“f**k! I’m bleeding.”
I get up, move to the front of the bus which makes me realize how weak I am. I crawl in, almost unconscious. I don’t realize when I fall asleep, only to wake up on a hospital bed in God knows where.
“I ain’t doin’ this no more,” I whisper to myself.
