Chapter 5: Where It All Began

981 Words
Leah While I might not be familiar with Italian names. I had heard of the Santoros back in the day. To think that I am standing right in front of one is frightening. Really frightening! “So can you tell me why you had a gun in your jacket?” Dr. Cathy asks. I quickly recall when I hit my hip while moving him into the taxi. “You know what?” Jensen groans. “Instead of asking me questions why don’t you get me the hell out of here?” “Not until you’re cleared. The brachial plexus on your left arm needs recovery.” Dr. Cathy calmly assures. “Urgh!” Jensen groans. “I’ll be back in a moment,” Dr Cathy says assuringly. I study the man sitting in front of me. I guess it’s only fair, as I perceive he’s studying me as well. He’s well over six feet tall, with broad shoulders and muscular arms. His hair is dark. And he wears it short and neat, like someone who would walk into a Wall Street boardroom any moment from now. It goes with the dark, obviously tailored jacket – minus the gun. I’m pretty sure he’s not a cop. His eyes are the glaring part — intelligent, rich green eyes surrounded by thick lashes. As he locks his gaze on mine, I realize as a matter of fact that he is capable of great violence. I know a killer when I see one. “Why am I here again?” I ask, lost. “What is it you think you saw back at the bus station?” he asks in a deep calm voice. “Nothing. We didn’t know what was going on,” I tell him. He gazes at me with twisted brows as if to read the truth in what I’ve said. “Hmmmm” He struggles to take of his shirt with one arm. “Can you please?” he asks in a soft manner that makes me second guess him. He doesn’t sound evil. Perharps there’s a difference between violence and evil. I move closer to help him take of his shirt. Holy f**k! His broad shoulders and arms are connected to a sculpted chest and an insane amount of abs. His lower back is covered in tattoos involving thorns and Latin script. He catches me staring and smirks. Slowly he unbuckles his belt and slides down the zipper, pulling down his trousers and leaving only the underwear. Oh. My. God. While I’m not familiar with the male anatomy, I can almost see through the underwear. That cannot be the normal size. It’s massive. I gasp. “I think I’ll leave you with the doctor at this point,” I tell him. “Get well soon.” As I turn to leave he grabs my waist from behind and pulls me towards him, immediately freeing me. I feel the warmth of his arms. “Thanks for not leaving me to bleed.” I give a controlled nod. “It’s okay.” “I’d like you to stay.” What? Normally I’d use work shifts as an excuse to turn down a guy, but not when I lost my job. “Uhmmm, I can only wait till the doctor gets back,” I say. He raises his thick eyebrows. He’s obviously attractive. Silence ensues as we maintain eye contact and is suddenly broken when my phone rings. I walk towards the door signalling to pick the call, and hopefully escape. “You promised.” I turn around to find Jensen staring right at me, his green bright eyes yearning for my presence. I let go of the door’s handle. “Alright” Hello, Jane. Where have you been? I just listened to your voicemail. Is everything okay? Uhmm, yeah. I’m fine. Are you sure? Sure, just a rough day. Now is not the time. Okay, we’ll talk later. Don’t be late. I won’t. Bye. Bye. “Would you mind talking about it?” Jensen asks. I heave a sigh. “I got fired at work earlier this morning?” “Where?” he asks curiously. “At Dua DuPonte hotel” “Dua DuPonte?” he asks reassuringly. “Yes” “Luca” he whispers. “You know Mr. Luca?” “He’s my brother, my younger brother.” What the heck! “You mean Mr. Luca is in the mafia?” “Hush!” he signals me to be quiet as Dr. Cathy walks in. “Seems you two are already getting along,” Dr. Cathy remarks. “You should take him in, you know. And have a great time” “Not what I would call great though,” I retort. “Don’t be naughty,” she chuckles. While I shake that off outwardly, the thought of having a great time with him is not so far from me. I battle the with thoughts in my head. A part of me says he’s attractive. Another says he is with the mafia. “Just a minute,” Dr. Cathy says as she heads for the door. “You didn’t leave when she came in,” Jensen observes. “Why?” “Oh” I mutter helplessly. “You’re beautiful, you know,” he says matter-of-factly. Fuck! I really don’t know what to say. That turns me on. “I appreciate you saying that.” “Would you mind me seeing you again?” he asks. “Maybe we could have lunch.” What?? Did he just ask me out on a date? No, not with the mafia! “Uhmm, I’m usually occupied…” He interrupts me. “I thought you lost your job. I can have Luca give it back.” After a prolonged silence, I clear my throat. Just before I can give him an answer, his phone rings.
