Chapter 9

941 Words
Tans POV. The pack house was huge, kind of like a mansion. There were 4 floors. The top floor was, of course, for the Alpha family and beta's. The third floor was for the Gammas and their family, plus guest rooms for visiting Alphas and Luna's. The second floor was the unmated floor for males and females to stay on, if they wished, and there were rooms on that floor for the omega staff as well. The upper first floor was the offices and meeting rooms and then the lower first floor housed a large kitchen and dining area with a banquet hall at the back leading out into the huge gardens and there was also a rec room, library, and cinema room too. There was a big basement as well. That's where they kept the dungeons and the emergency bunker. This was only used during an attack for any member to get somewhere safe. We had them installed in the other major infrastructures as well, like the schools, training halls, supermarkets etc. I walked through the doors and the smell of the house hit me and I had never felt more at home in the last few months than right now. I mind linked my mother. 'Mom? I'm downstairs. Where are you and dad?' 'Oh honey, I'm so glad you are home.' She replied. I could feel her happiness through the link. 'We are in your father's office.' 'Great, I'll head up.' I replied, and made my way up to the upper first floor to my father's office. I reached the door to my father's office and knocked and waited patiently to be told that I could enter. "Come in!" he shouted through the door. I don't know why, but something in my gut was warning me about going inside. My hand halted over the door knob, hovering as I wrestled with myself for a split second. Why would I feel this way when the only people inside were my mother and father. They would never do anything to cause me harm or put me in danger....right? 'Something feels off Tan. Be careful in there.' Eden echoed in my head. She felt it too and her hackles were raised. 'We got this Eden, don't worry.' I swallowed hard and reached my hand to the door knob, it was feeling oddly cold in my grasp. I turned the door knob and entered the office. My mother was on me in an instant, hugging me so hard that I could hardly breathe. She peppered my face with kisses and her tears wet my cheeks as she squeezed me hard. Finally letting go, she had the biggest, genuine smile on her face. "I'm so happy you are home, my dear. Things haven't been the same around here without you." She hugged me again. "I missed you too, mom." I hugged her back, but not as hard. When she let go, I took in all her features again. My mom wasn't the tallest of wolves, standing at 5ft 6, I was a touch taller but only a little. Her brown hair was streaked with silver strands but her chocolate brown eyes were as bright as ever. She was a lovely woman, nothing was ever too much trouble, and she would do anything for anyone and protect her family at all costs. She was a wonderful mother. My father, a very stoic man with salt and pepper hair and a matching beard, stood 6ft 2, and he was as imposing as they came. Tattoos littered his arms and he was very fit for a man of his age. But, when it came to us children. He made sure we never went without growing up but made sure we appreciated everything we had and that nothing would just be handed to us because we were the Alpha's children. We all had to work hard to earn the things we wanted and to prove that we would value those who worked hard in the pack as well. Treating them the same as we would treat ourselves and our family. Because at the end of the day, that's what a pack is. A family. I just didn't expect what happened next. Unknown POV. "Alpha?" Thomas, distracting me from my thoughts, which may or may not have been about my mate. "We've arrived at the hotel sir." "Thank you, Thomas. Let's get checked in and arrange some food too. I'm going to contact the company for an update." I replied, exiting the car. The hotel is one of the best in the area and close to the Nightshade pack as well. I wanted to be close in case the e-consult doesn't work, and we had to reschedule an in-person meeting. The Knight Architecture company was one of the leading companies when it came to renovations, new builds and building designs. They were the ones that I had sent my proposal to, the only company, because they were the best and I wanted the best. My company, Masters Construction and Security, was the biggest company in the country. We covered site security, premise licenses, building code evaluations, health and safety evaluations, renovation projects, high-profile and person of interest security. We had all the tools to pull off this renovation of this old university site, but my lead designer had left. Hence why we had to outsource this to another company, and this one had a very promising designer, and I was hoping that if she was as good as her mentor had told me then, I'd be looking at acquiring her skills and adding them to the existing design team.
