Zoey walked to where Jessica's mother was, staring daggers at Jessica as she walked away, holding Rowan by the hand. Jessica mum's feet clicked on the ground with anger burning intensely inside her, hands crossed against her chest, while she kept mumbling words.
"Mother, let her go. She doesn't deserve anything from this family if she still wishes to be with that wretched lunatic's freak-ass bastard of a man," Zoey spoke. Her voice was like a whisper of cold ice, stroking into Jessica's mother's ear. Jessica's mom turned swiftly, facing Zoey as if she wanted to transfer the anger and rage from her body to Zoey's. Then, with a sharp groan and a clenched fist, she walked away to her room.
"Damn, she's such a pain," Zoey mumbled, seeing how Jessica mum glared at her with a fearsome look, at some point she could feel her heart elevating as if it wanted to leave her body. Zoey sighed then walked upstairs.
The weather suddenly changed, and it began raining. Jessica and Rowan were standing outside, waiting for a taxi but couldn't find any. Within the span of ten seconds, a grey metallic-colored Rolls-Royce Cullinan drove by and stopped in front of them.
"Why are you two stranded in a place like this? It's raining," a husky voice sounded from the car as the glass rolled down. "Please allow me the pleasure of dropping you off," the man insisted, sounding polite and calm, with a grin.
"Okay, we appreciate your help," Rowan responded, then got into the car with Jessica.
Rowan had ordered one of his men from Crestview to come pick them up after the party, and Rowan had instructed the man to act like he owned the car and wanted to offer them a ride as a favor in order to avoid any suspicious from Jessica or her family. He wanted to keep his possession a secret so he could give them a counterattack revenge.
After a few moments of riding, the man dropped them off and drove away. Both got home and immediately changed into something that wasn't wet.
"How did you suddenly recover?" Jessica asked Rowan, surprised, staring at him with disbelief.
"All that matters now is that I'm okay, not some mentally ill human being as of before," Rowan replied, releasing a glint of smile from his lips.
Jessica was still dumbfounded about the entire situation of him recovering out of the blue. Questions ran through her mind like a pregnant cloud, but she couldn’t grasp which question exactly to rain on him. Should she ask him about what happened the night after their wedding that he got missing, or the question on how he got mad?
"Why? Why did you leave me alone for all these years?" Jessica finally asked.
"It's a long story. I wasn't sure what happened to me, but I'm still trying to figure it out," Rowan replied, hugging Jessica softly.
"But you were mad! I picked you up six months ago on the street, eating cabbage and begging. Can't you remember what happened before you went mad?" Jessica asked again, her eyes already welling up with tears, her lips trembling as she tried to speak.
"Jessica, you have to stay calm. All that matters is that I'm here with you and much better than I was before," Rowan spoke gently, holding Jessica by the shoulders as he massages it softly.
Jessica relaxed on Rowan's body and Before knowing it, she fell asleep. Rowan stared at her beautiful face, running his hands through her soft cheek to her hair. Then, he picked her up and took her to the room where he laid her on the bed, then watched her sleep before joining her.
The next morning, Jessica woke up from the sleep, thinking all that happened yesterday was a dream.
"Oh, you're awake," Rowan's voice sounded, holding a coffee and fried potato chips, bringing them to Jessica. Immediately, Jessica saw Rowan, she flinched, thinking she was daydreaming.
"What's the problem? What are you surprised about?" Rowan asked with a smile. He then walked to the bed and gave her the coffee and fried potato chips he had made. "Eat, okay?" he urged.
"And about what I said at the party yesterday, I mean it all. I will help you secure an investment with the Crestview group, not only that, but also retrieve the debt held by the casino bullies.
Jessica paused for a moment, staring at Rowan as he spoke. "But how? How can you do that? You left me for three years, making me lost in thought and depression. Every single day of my life has been a hell. Then, after three years, I saw you mad. And all of a sudden, you’ve recovered and now you want to secure an investment with Crestview? How is all this possible? Even though you want to secure an investment with the Crestview group, you need money and also have to be a prominent businessman before they might consider giving you a listening ear, and the worst part of it all is that we have no finances. So just think this all through, How will it be possible?" Jessica yelled angrily, with tears gushing from her eyes, as she tried to piece through everything in her brain. "My grandfather just wants to make fun of me. Just let him have his way," Jessica added.
"You don't have to worry about the investment, Jessica. I will try my best and make things possible," Rowan replied while holding Jessica's hands as he rubbed it gently, he then moved closer to her, using his hands to wipe off her tears.
The arrival of the Crestview group was all over Atlanta, with news headlines picking up the story. As soon as Zoey heard about this, she quickly rushed to grandfather to inform him.
"Grandfather, have you heard?" she asked curiously, with a happy expression. "I just saw in the news that the Crestview group has arrived in Atlanta. Grandfather, did you know what that means?" Zoey asked curiously without giving grandfather a chance to speak. “It's an opportunity for us to make a move,” she added.
"Yes, I understand why you're curious," grandfather replied. "And also, this is a good opportunity to secure an investment with them. Remember, you are now my favorite child, and I want you to have a big share in the family wealth. This is just like a test for you to prove me right, giving me proof that you are worth it is what I want. Secure a contract with them, and I will make your dream come true."
Zoey wiggles her hair with a prideful smile before answering. "About what you said to Jessica, do you intend to return the company and the wealth you confiscated from her?" Zoey asked with a smirk, her eyes as evil as a devil.
"No, you know I can't do that. I want her to pay for disrespecting my orders. And by the way, it's impossible for her to secure an investment with the Crestview group. So she has no chance in this," grandfather responded with a sneer on his face, holding a glass of wine as he sipped it.
