CHAPTER 12
Carousel Of Emotions
As they were seated at the table to eat dinner, Janine only has eaten a little amount of the food served on her plate. "Janine, did you like the food?" Asked Drake. He had been observing Janine once they were seated. He had been thinking that there was such a way to block a mates emotional connection. For the longest time he had lived, he had never heard of such an occurrence between mates. This is something new, besides the fact that Janine is only 28 years old biologically so it might mean she is a new soul.
Janine got startled with Drake's question. "Oh! Yeah, the food is fine. I just feel tired after the information I learned about the business we have in the East. Then getting the vision after that. It's kinda overwhelming." She replied. "By the way, do you guys have a spare room? I'm not asking for a large space, I only need a small separate room where I could set up an altar and where I could meditate and do some rituals and such that I needed. I might have forgotten to tell you that further research about the spell combined with poison is still needed." She directly pointed out.
"Are you sure you can handle all those while you need to get yourself informed about the businesses we need to attend to? Not to mention we need to address the issue on the .business as soon as we can." Drake frankly stated. I believe we are short of time so you need to focus on what's needed for now."
Janine smiled at the thought that he was challenging her though she knows that he is only worried that she would be spending less time with him. "It is fine with me if you are unable to provide the room as of now. The forest is wide and accessible so I think being close to nature is a better environment for me if I needed to do my rituals." She said testing his patience, and she could hear a low growl coming from him already. "Oh, I also remembered someone promised me to just call on him if I needed something, so if there aren't any viable options I'll just call on him." She pushed. This is where Drake suddenly lost his cool and let out a loud growl while dropping a fist on the table.
"You are my mate and you are not to call on any other males to provide you those things you are asking for!" Drake said in a thunderous voice. She pushed a dangerous button there. Instead of being frightened of how he reacted, Janine smiled. She took a sip of wine, damp the sides of her lips with the napkin, and stood up.
"I'm sorry for ruining your night with my request. I will need to get something done. Good night gentlemen." She calmly said, and gracefully left the men at the table. She went straight upstairs, took a bath, and wore a white loose nightdress.
Drake has not been back, she went out of the room and she can still hear Drake and Gerald's voice downstairs. It seems they are on disagreement with something. She went to the office as softly as she could and went straight to work again. She wanted to finish everything as she needs to do something about the vision she had. She needs to perform a ritual that can help her tap on time and get back to a fragment of the past. Maybe her past life or an ancestor's past life would be the key. For now, she needs to limit the emotional connection that Drake can sense from her. She knows that their bond has gotten stronger after letting him take her last night. Janine scolded herself for being too impulsive with him. She dismissed her thoughts about Drake and focused on the current task she needs to fulfill with their business. She wanted to get it done for now.
After Janine left, the men at the table were all silent from what happened. They only saw their Alpha got dismissed by their Luna and they do not know how to react. Drake is breathing heavily from anger with the words she dropped on him. He wanted to throw everything on the table after hearing that Janine is considering asking Leo for what she needed. Adding injury to the insult is that she seemed satisfied when he got angry. The worst part of it, he couldn't feel any emotion from her. Is she cutting him off after last night? This is just absurd and his wolf is also in confusion as to what is happening because they can feel the bond but they are unable to tell on how does Janine felt about it. Frustrated with the emotional torture he and his wolf is feeling. He talked tried to talk to Gerald as calm as he could.
"Gerald, what do you think is your Luna feeling?" Drake asked with a sharp look on his eyes. He was swirling the glass of wine in his hand.
"Luna seems to be doubting you a while ago. A little hint of jealousy if I may add." Gerald said in hopes of trying to soothe his Alpha's temper.
"Jealous on who or what?" Drake asked trying to contain himself. His grip on the stem of the glass wine started to tighten.
"I heard she asked you about Cicada, and you seem to be proud of telling her who Cicada is and you immediately decided to introduce her when you get to the East," Gerald said in a timid tone, doing his best to reason out his observation.
"That can't be." Drake immediately said and snapped the stem of the wine glass. He is starting to get furious at the thought that he was insensitive about it. "But why didn't she just say?" He growled at Gerald.
"Women have a different way of thinking Alpha," Gerald said. He too got himself thinking 'Is this what am I to face when I get together with Leila?' he shook his head in defeat at the thought of what might come. He suddenly felt something buzzed in his pocket. He remembered the phone his Luna gave him. He pulled it out and saw it was a call. A call from someone named Leo. The buzzing sound didn't stop and he looked at his Alpha, then looked down again on the phone he is holding.
"Why don't you answer it?" Drake almost shouted to Gerald.
"Alpha, should I answer this?" Gerald asked while he showed Drake the phone.
"How dare he call your Luna at this time!" Drake finally let out another growl and threw the wine glass with a broken stem. He grabbed the phone from Gerald's hand and answered the phone.
"Janine, I would just like to check on you. How was your stay there? Is everything alright? I haven't heard from you all day." Leo on the other end of the line immediately spoke when he heard the tone that his call was answered.
"My mate is fine. She is having a good time with me here. Of course, everything is alright. Most of all she has no responsibility in updating you every time. She may be the High Priestess of your Coven but she said that meetings can be arranged online if needed." Drake said sarcastically.
"Well, well, well. It is the wolf who answered. This number is a personal property of Janine, may I know why is it in your possession?" Leo answered surprised that it was Drake who answered his call. He could hear the grunt of the wolf.
"You must have had a terrible accident and acquired short term memory loss," Drake said mocking Leo. "Okay, I'll say it again. I am Janine's mate. I guess that sums it up to answer your question of why I have her phone." There is pride in his statement.
"Let me put it this way wolf. Janine cannot be bounded by any connection emotionally. You're traditions of feeling a connection with Janine as you claim that she is yours is only good as she allows it. She could easily cut off anyone when she founds a reason to cut you off from her. She can manipulate her and other's emotions that well. Did it ever cross your mind as to how such a young soul was able to claim her title and position as our Coven's High Priestess despite that there are other Elders who can claim the position?" Leo said this time with a more sarcastic tone. "Well then Wolf, I shouldn't waste any of your time now with her as it may be the last you may enjoy with her." Leo simply ended the call then and there.
Drake was about to smash the phone onto the floor but Gerald was quick to prevent it.
"Alpha no!" He almost cried. "That is my only way to communicate with Leila, I wasn't able to copy her number yet, I have been mostly occupied this day with tasks you ordered me to do." He pleaded.
Drake huffed and let Gerald have the phone and he immediately left to go upstairs and find his Luna.
