Chapter 5 Refusing to Yield

1067 Words
The call ended. At the family dinner today, Noah didn't want to embarrass himself in front of Charles, so he quickly suppressed his jealousy. He forced a smile, furrowed his brow, and downed the drink in his hand. "Nothing much, Uncle Charles, just some minor issues." Charles saw through it all. He smiled faintly, "You don't seem like such a player like your mother said. You still get upset over women." Noah sneered disdainfully, "There's a lot of fish in the sea. They don't affect me. I just had a few drinks tonight, so my mind isn't clear." Charles pursed his lips but quickly stopped smiling. Acting drunk is one thing, but being genuinely intoxicated is another. When leaving the table, Amelia came to pick up Noah. The alcohol hit hard, and Noah's mood became erratic. He first kissed Amelia passionately for a while, then stared at her face when he let go, and finally pushed her away irritably. Amelia felt wronged and tried to please him while crying. Charles sat in the car, smoking with a half-smile on his face. Alicia was quite impressive. ... Thanks to Noah's interference, all the resumes Alicia had sent out were rejected. The only interview she landed was a hotel lobby manager position. Alicia didn't let this opportunity slip away and went for it. When she pushed open the door and saw Noah, she realized it was a trap. Alicia stepped back, but Noah grabbed her hand, smiling sinisterly, "If you run away from this job, you'll have nothing left. Do you still have enough money on you?" Alicia frowned, "If you restrict my freedom, I'll have to call the police." "Alicia, don't forget, we first met at the police station. It was me who used my connections to bail out your father when he got caught gambling." Alicia felt a chill down her spine. She was forcibly dragged inside. The table was filled with alcohol. Noah revealed his true colors, holding Alicia. "The annual salary of the general manager is 200 thousand. If you have what it takes to finish all the drinks on this table, not only will I give you the job, but I'll also give you a one-time payment of 500 thousand. How about that?" Alicia knew she had no option but to down these drinks today. Noah just wanted to get back at her! Alicia remained expressionless as she picked up the drinks from the table. "I don't want the money. Let's make a bet. If I finish all the drinks on this table, regardless of whether I live or die, you can never disturb me again." This table was filled with Noah's friends, and once he made this bet, it would be hard for him to take back his words. He deliberately humiliated her, and she wanted to give him a taste of his own medicine. Noah knew very well that she couldn't handle it, but he still felt irritated and coldly said, "Fine then." Alicia raised the glass and downed three shots in a row. The alcohol was quite strong, and soon her vision started to blur. At that moment, another wealthy heir at the table called out, "It's such a waste for such a beautiful girl to drink herself to death. Why don't you be with me? You don't have to drink this anymore." Laughter filled the room, and their gazes turned suggestive. Noah gave him a sharp look and said, "If she doesn't drink, then you drink." The wealthy heir, seeing Noah's seriousness, smiled and pretended as if he hadn't said anything earlier. By the fifth glass, Alicia's body became incredibly weak, and she had to lean on the table for support. Noah's eyes darkened as he pulled her shoulder and whispered, "Can't handle it? Admit your mistake, and it'll all be over." Alicia felt disgusted to the extreme. He used such an extreme method and still expected to win her love? She pushed Noah away and went to get more alcohol. Noah's expression didn't look too good. Amelia, who was standing by, felt jealous and deliberately created distance between them. "Noah, maybe you should reconsider. Look at how pale Alicia's face is. What if she really dies from drinking?" Noah was determined to break Alicia's stubbornness. He stared unflinchingly at Alicia and ordered Amelia, "It's none of your business. Go back and sit down." Amelia glared at Alicia resentfully. Suddenly, a cold wind blew from behind. The people at the table started gasping, but Alicia couldn't make out the details amidst the noise. But she heard Noah calling out beside her, "Uncle Charles?" Alicia was stunned and slowly turned her head. Charles had arrived. She knew he wasn't here for her, but in that moment when she saw him, Alicia felt like she saw a glimmer of hope. He glanced briefly at Alicia and casually asked, "What's going on? Such a lively scene." Noah was also afraid of him and coughed, "Just a group of friends having some drinks." Taking advantage of this opportunity, Alicia went to the restroom to vomit. She didn't want to die from alcohol poisoning, so she stuck her fingers down her throat and emptied her stomach. But her head remained heavy and foggy. After sitting on the floor for a while, Alicia made a bold decision. ... At the drinking table, Charles accompanied Noah for a drink. Amelia knew the background of Noah's uncle. Without him, Noah couldn't have been living such a carefree life. Charles was both handsome and wealthy and Amelia tried to please him by staying close to him. After hovering around him several times, Charles finally glanced at her and said nonchalantly, "I remember the girlfriend you introduced to me last time. It wasn't this one." Noah didn't take it seriously, "Oh, that was the one drinking just now. This is her younger sister." Charles remained poker-faced, "The older sister is prettier." Noah froze for a moment. There was nothing wrong with that statement, but the intuition told him that it wasn't a simple compliment. With just one sentence, Charles extinguished all of Amelia's enthusiasm, and Noah became absent-minded, constantly looking towards the entrance. Charles had his own agenda and decided to leave first. As he opened the car door and got in, Charles's eyes suddenly darkened. Inside the car sat the woman whom his nephew, Noah, had been obsessing over--Alicia.
