CHAPTER 3

737 Words
Alex Hey. I’m Alex Stone—future Alpha of the Black Moon Pack, the strongest werewolf pack in California. And yeah… I’m a werewolf. I’m 18, and still haven’t found my mate. In our world, your mate is your other half—the one who makes you whole. Most wolves find theirs at sixteen. Me? I guess the moon wasn’t in my favor. Watching my friends find their mates while I stayed solo? Torture. I used to wonder about her all the time—where she was, if she was safe, if she was eating, sleeping, smiling… But eventually, I stopped. I decided to focus on my future as Alpha instead of chasing a dream that felt out of reach. “Alex, dude, we gotta go. We already missed first period,” my best friend Tim called out. I was in the middle of sparring with some pack members when he basically yelled in my ear. “Oh, right… I totally forgot,” I said. “Who forgets school? Sometimes I seriously question our friendship,” Tim muttered. I ignored him and headed off to change. When we got to school, something was off. My wolf, Xavier, was freaking out. ‘Alex… what’s that smell?’ he asked, pacing in my mind. ‘I don’t know… but I love it.’ It was warm and sweet—vanilla and roses. It pulled me forward like a magnet. As Tim and I approached the Chemistry Lab, the scent grew stronger. I couldn’t resist. I pushed the door open and walked in like I owned the place. “So nice of you to join us, gentlemen,” the teacher said with a scowl. I didn’t even hear him. My eyes were scanning the room—until they landed on her. The most beautiful girl I had ever seen. My wolf went wild. Mate. Mate. Mate. “You boys should take a seat,” the teacher snapped again. I didn’t even think. I practically ran to the seat beside her. Nora Two guys barged into the classroom—35 minutes late. Really? I looked up, mildly annoyed... and then I saw him. He was—okay, wow. I had never seen a guy that good-looking in real life. Not even in movies. My heart did this weird flutter thing, and for some reason, I had the insane urge to just hug him. He sat right beside me like it was nothing. “Miss Nora, that’s your partner, Alex. You’ll be working together on the project,” the teacher announced. I nodded, trying to act chill while internally freaking out. The second the bell rang, I bolted. I wasn’t ready for any more awkward staring. I was heading to my locker when a girl walked up to me. “Umm, hi—I’m Julia.” I’m not exactly a people person, but something about her made me relax. “I’m Nora.” “You’ve got the wrong locker. That’s mine. Yours is the next one,” she said kindly. “Oh, crap—sorry,” I mumbled and opened the correct one. “No biggie! Mind if I take a peek at your schedule?” “Sure,” I said, handing it to her. She stared at it for a moment, then squealed. “We totally have all our classes together!” “Oh—cool,” I smiled. Since we had English in fifteen minutes, Julia offered to show me around. We were walking down the hall when—bam—Alex appeared again, heading straight toward us. He grabbed my hand. The moment his skin touched mine, I felt it—sparks. Not like static electricity. Real, soul-shaking sparks. And by the look in his eyes, he felt it too. He quickly let go, shocked. “Mate,” he said softly, reaching toward my face. “Woah, woah—chill out, dude. It’s Nora, not mate.” “You’re my mate. I’ve been searching for you.” I blinked. “Okay, you definitely need to see the school nurse. I don’t know you, and I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen you in my entire life. So back off.” He looked completely stunned. I grabbed Julia’s hand and stormed off, heart pounding. But even as I walked away, I couldn’t shake it. Those sparks? That look in his eyes? Something about him felt… familiar. And that scared me more than anything.
