Morning Rumble

1418 Words
Jewel's POV I woke up in the morning, a faint whiff of Tau hit my nose. My eyes snapped open, to glance around quickly. "Good morning!" I heard Athens sunny voice say. "Morning Athens," I groan. I don't know how a vampire could be so chipper in the morning. "Go get dressed and let's get out to the training yard. We can train while we wait." He giggled. I got dressed, sports bra and biker shorts. Throwing my hair up in a ponytail, I looked at him. "Now we can go." I missed Tau, I wanted him here for what was about to happen. Pretty sure it was my mind that smelled him. ************** Out at the field, the whole group was there. "Everyone, to your sparring partners!" Athens yelled. I pulled the dagger from behind me and walked to Athens. We started working but only at half speeds. What time are they coming? My brother asked. 7:30 am I sent back. 7:25 am now. He looked at his phone. Ok, I kept training until I felt a large group coming. We all stopped our training to watch the 12 family heads, their guards, and the guards for the were-cat. I noticed Lobos giving orders and feeling generally pretty imperial. He hadn't noticed me yet. I noticed when he did. The surprised looked on his face, and the slight "O" formation in his mouth before he schooled his features told me that he figured I would have been dead. "We have business to attend, your session is done so you need to clear out." Lobos snorted with a haughty voice. "That's cute, but I am the Queen to be, so I have every right and every intention of staying to listen." I set the haughty tone right back. His face turned red with anger as he turned to ignore me. "Let us get this session in order!" He clapped his hands, as people made a circle around the were-cat. "As I am the oldest of the houses, I preside over this trial seeing as how, he hurt my heir!" Lobos said the last bit with force. "Wait. Wait.." I started. I was jumping in here. I was not going to let him get too far with this. Damn bastard tried to kill me let night. "What!" He turned to me to roar. Lobos had his eyes black and his teeth were showing. His anger making him a partial shift. "Per Southern Wolf law, the family who loses a family member gets to cast judgment." I raised a brow at him. "That is an outdated law your father changed." Lobos huffed like I was an i***t. "Interesting all my resources say it was changed last year." Athens handed me the three books, we had procured from the library. "These books came from the library here in the castle." I opened the oldest first and read the contents about this event. The second book I opened which was dated last year I noted, before I read the same as the historical record. Then Athens handed me the third, there I read the new addition and the date that book was drafted. "I seem to remember my father was killed, while I was like just 7ish." I knew it would click memories that people knew it had been a while since he was gone. "This was only last year." I shrugged. "How could he have approved the change?" "He did before he died!" Lobos shouted his anger rising. "It was found in his desk and changed last year." The growl in his voice told me just how angry he was. "Why would it take so long? And why would it be honored? I am taking the reins in less than two days." I knew my voice sounded like it was mocking him. "Regardless, I am here now, just let me reverse it." I clapped the book closed looked up at Gael, "you have the authority to decide what is to be done with this man. He killed your father I uphold the old laws." I huffed. "Thank you, your highness." Gael bowed low. He walked to the were-cat. The were-cat hissed at him. The were-cat's eyes started to glow as he began to panic. Why was he only now panicking? I looked at Hawk, who only nodded slightly. He knew what I saw too. The whole team shifted. You could see their loose limbs ready for a fight. "What the hell Lobos! We had a deal!" Shouted the were-cat. Lobos went to launch himself on the cat. Athens caught him by the scruff. "Now, now puppy." Athens chided like a child. "We need to see what the cat let from this little bag." Athens chuckled. "Let me go fang boy!" Shouted Lobos. "It is Athens! Head vampire of the council and the oldest vampire on Earth!" Roared Athens at the little old man in his hand. Lobos cowed, "What did he promise you?" Athens looked at the cat. I knew he was urging him to offer the truth. "He said I could live and would only get a beating as punishment. So long as I came back to try for your Queen to be." The were-cat had a sudden case of mouth vomit. "A beating for killing Gael's dad and for injuring his own!" Mateo Mora shouted. "Well, your cute but I already had a try for my life again last night." I shrugged. "Gael do what you will with the cat." I waved my hand as if to hurry up. "Then we can deal with Lobos." "Wait why did you not call the guards last night?" Gael stopped to look at me surprised. "Because she has us." Grunted my brother with his dark brooding Mortou face. Gael was taken aback by my brother's words as an arrow hit Athens right in the chest. Athens looked down at it and yanked it out. Another arrow was loosed, it was caught by Max just in front of my chest. I nodded a thank you to him as my whole group became a wall of flesh in front of me. I heard the roar, as the trees shook with the violence of it. Followed by a high-pitched scream. Then silence. I looked at Gael nodding my head. He turned, in one move he was a wolf, snapping his jaws as he leaped on the cat he crushed his skull. The cat's blood dripping off his jaws he howled a victory to the sky above. My wall of flesh parted, my heart fluttered. Tau, striding toward us a body dangling over a bloody shoulder. My legs were automatic. My heart, in my throat, as running. I hoped it was the dead guy's blood and not his. A smile stretched across his face, as I locked my eyes on to his sea-blue orbs. I missed those eyes as I missed him. Skidding to a stop in front of him, I paused. My eyes looking over his yummy frame as I saw nothing that would be an actual wound. "Tau..." words failed me.. Breathing in his scent made me elated. Tau chucked the body off him to the ground and opened his arms. I went on the urge. I missed him. f**k what people think right now. "Hello," he chuckled as I buried my face in his chest, wrapping my arms around his waist. "Who the hell is that!" Lobos shouted. "That is Jewel's private guard." Athens shook the old little man a little. " Now let them have their moment." Athens snapped at him like he was a kid. "Missed you, princess," Tau purred in my ear. My knees went weak at the sound. Thank the Gods I was holding his waist. I just squeezed harder in response and breathed in deep. "Lobos! What have you been up to?" Shouted Emiliano Sosa? "Yes, what has he been doing?" More questions and comments filled the air. "Princess, I think you need to take charge. I will be right here." Tau whispered so close to my ear his lips brushed it. Sending a shiver down my spine. Ugh! I didn't want to! I wanted to stay right here. I hate adulting... I let go, turning my back brushed his chest as I took a deep breath. "Enough! Let us get to the bottom of this mess now!" My alpha voice booming out of my mouth. I noticed it even made my brother flinch a little. How odd.
