Macie"s parents loved her, really they did. But with them being busy due to their jobs and their devotion to finding the true religion, they didn"t really have time to spend time and play with her. That is why when they found out that she had taken up reading to pass her time, they scattered various books around the house, ranging from the Bible to Devil"s worship. Macie then became intrigued by angels and demon, more so by the latter. She loved the story about an angel who was casted away from heaven, the angel who only craved his Father"s attention but was damned because of it. She loved creatures who were imperfect. They were easier to relate to as she believed that she was imperfect herself. But a thirteen year old girl shouldn"t be thinking of how imperfect she is, so she picks up a book to distract herself from he troubling thoughts. She opened her chosen book and read, stopping for a second as a line caught her attention. "Those who are brave enough to conduct this ritual will have the opportunity to gain a companion..." Macie was ecstatic! Who knew you could summon your own friend? She didn"t have to go out and talk to those mean kids at school anymore! She can have her own friend and she won"t need anyone else anymore! Finally, desperate to have a friend, she does the ritual once her parents are away on a business trip, trusting that she could fend for herself. She ran to the basement, a giddy feeling blossoming in her chest. She couldn"t help the grin that spread on her face as she drew the summoning circle. She then gathers gifts for the new friend such as a black Teddy bear and candies. Macie chanted words that flowed out of her mouth with ease. It was as if she"d done this a million time but really, with the use of the Internet, it was rather easy to learn how to pronounce the words properly. Voca amicus Amicus praefinitum Religata continent ad me Nam aeternum Green smoke began to come out of the circle as it glowed, momentarily clouding Macie"s vision. Deep amused laughter was heard as the room rumbled causing Macie to almost lose her balance. She waits for the smoke to clear, a fire in her eyes telling that this was what she wanted, she would not back down and cower away from whatever would come out of the circle. She was determined to have a friend, be it an angel or a demon, she doesn"t care. All she cares about is not being alone anymore. Once the smoke clears, she sees her Teddy bear moving. "Who is foolish enough to summon me, Kuma, a great and powerful demon!? " the bear"s squeaky, high-pitched voice echoes in the basement"s walls. Silence. "WHAT IS WITH THIS BODY! HOW DARE YOU LET ME POSSESS SUCH A THING!" Teddy growled but Macie was just standing there, stars in her eyes as she watched the bear cursed and throw its little paws in the air in exasperation. Macie is was absolutely happy that the ritual worked. She ran to hug the bear, ignoring the growls and curses coming out of it. Teddy, confused about the gesture, remains silent only speaking after Macie lets go. "Human, you must have summoned me for a deal, yes? What is it that you want?" "I want you to be my friend forever!" "That"s stupid," Teddy scoffed, "Why would I, Kuma, be your friend? You"re nothing but a small fleshbag! What use would you be to me?" "I-I don"t know." Macie"s eyes glossed with tears as she looked around the basement for something to give to Teddy, something to make him agree to be her friend! "Ah! Candies! Here," she pushed the bowl of candies onto the bear"s paws. "Candis?" "Candies! Try some," she giggled as she watched Kuma struggle with the candy wrapper, she opted to help him but he finally got it after a while. "Oh! Bloody hell, these are good!" the bear poured all of the candies, wrapper and all, into his gaping maw. "I"m glad you like it!" her smile was so pure, Kuma almost gagged but an idea popped into his tiny bear head before he could. "How "bout this, kid. You give me more of these," he gestured to a wrapper on the floor, "and I"ll be your friend for eternity." "Deal!" A contract is made between the two. "Give me yer hand," Macie gave him her left hand without a complaint. Her wrist tingled and with a poof of green smoke, a black bracelet was wrapped around it. "Woah! What"s this for?" "It"s a reminder of the deal. Since yer too young, I can"t mark ya." "Why not?" "Coz yer gonna die if I did." "Oh... Hey, wait! Where"s your bracelet." The demon chuckled, "I"ve got this bowtie. I don"t want no silly bracelet. That"s for silly little girls." "Hey!" Macie stuck out her tongue and tackled the bear, laughing loudly as she did. - Since it was summer and her parents were away, Macie didn"t need to go out. She spent her time indoors and talked to Teddy. "Kid, when this deal is done, you"ll be comin" with me to a very bad place. Y"know that, right?" "Of course, I do, you silly bear!" The two of them went around the house, Macie showing Teddy human things. "What"s this?" Teddy asked as he gestured at the big black of that was fixed on the wall. "That"s the TV! You don"t have TVs at your place?" "Nah. We don"t need this square-thing whatever it does," a click is heard, the TV turns on. "Woah! I didn"t know humans were in there!" "It"s cool, right? I wanna go inside there too someday! I"m going to sing and everyone will love me!" "Why don"t you go now then?" "Mommy said that only adults can go inside. So, I have to wait until I"m a grown up to go inside!" "Oh, okay then. Make sure to take me with you when you go." "Of course! You"re my best friend now and I"ll never leave you behind." (Unbeknownst to them, there will come a day that Macie"s dream will come true. But it will all be in a different circumstance. There will be no music or smiles, only tragedies and cries.) Then night came along and the two of them were alone. - Somewhere outside, a lanky figure stalked in the darkness. "Sir," a voice trembled onto his phone, "Should I go now?" "No, you fool, wait until the lights go out," a deep chuckle resounded in the speaker, "That"s the perfect moment to strike. Take back what they took from me, Joey, my boy. Kill her." - "You gonna do the thing you humans do at night, kiddo?" The demon asked as he watched the girl read an old book. "What?" Macie"s eyes widened with curiosity. "Slumber? Is that what you guys still call it?" Teddy"s soft paws scratched behind his ear, unable to find the word he was looking for. "Oh! You mean sleep? Yeah, I"m just gonna turn of the lights! Are you going to sleep, Teddy?" "Nah, demons don"t do that." The lights went out like a candle. - A shadow quietly walked up to the front door because even though he knows that the parents are out and only the kid"s left, he wasn"t sure if all would go smoothly. The door knob rattled a bit but then it clicked and as the door opened, all of the doubt and guilt that weighted heavily on the Joey"s shoulders disappeared and his frown was replaced a greedy grin. "Money, here I come." - Joey roamed around the living room, putting anything he deems valuable in a giant sack, all the while not knowing that someone was watching him. He goes in and out of rooms, stealing anything and everything he can put his grubby hands on. And finally, he came upon Little Macie"s door. He audibly gulped as he fingered his pocketknife. Should he do this? Is he really going to kill a child? He shook his head as he felt his resolve waver. "No, I have to do this. It"s either her or me. In this world, it"s kill or be killed and I"m not going to die." But as Joey touched the doorknob once more, he heard a growl. He turns his head, side to side, trying to find the the source of the sound. A flicker of light catches his peripheral vision and he that"s when he saw it. - The robber stood frozen as he stared at two glowing red eyes at the end of the hallway. The growling becomes louder and only then did he run for his life, dropping the sack filled with riches in the process. Just as Joey finally saw the front door, open, just a few more steps and he"s out, he hears a growl and a mocking voice. "Where d"ya think you"re goin", sinner?" The door slams shut. "Hell"s got a special place for ya." "No! No! Get away from me!" Joey swung his knife wildly at the shadows. "But, before that, what are ya doin" here?" Shadows wrapped around Joey"s body like slimy ink, choking him and lifting off the ground. Gasping for air, he lets go of the knife, dropping it on the ground with a thud. "I-I..." Joey tried to explain but he was seeing spots and his lungs burned. "Oh, I"m killin" ya. Whoops. Let me loosen "em up a bit. There. Now, talk, mortal,"he breathed in air and choked before he finally explained. "I w-was sent here to k-kill the girl." Teddy"s eyes darkened with malice and the air suddenly reeked of death. A portal glowed underneath Joey and he didn"t even have a chance to scream before he was thrown in. "Into the eight circle ya go! Another toy for my collection!" Teddy"s amused laughter following him down to his doom. - Macie heard what happened that night. She heard the screams and she smelled the putrid scent of death and burning flesh. She felt the heat, she knew that if she looked then at where Teddy was, she would"ve seen a glimpse of Hell. She understood that Teddy was evil. But, she knew he was good too. Twisted, yes, but he did just punish a bad guy. Macie eyes widened as an idea popped in her head. She decided that she will help him get rid of bad people! She will make the world a greater place! Teddy wasn"t too keen on idea. It meant doing something good and he was a demon for a reason. "Just think of it as adding new toys to your collection!" "How did you-" "So! Will you help me?" "Sigh. I guess helpin" ya"s basically part of the contract." "Yeah! Friends help each other! And you"re my best friend forever!" "Ya got that right. Even after death, you"re stuck with me. We"ll be best friends here and in hell!" - Again, Macie"s parents really did love her. And once she found out that her parents knew that it would come to this (her summoning a friend, whether it was an angel or a demon they weren"t sure but they seemed to be glad that it was the latter), she loved them too.
