Defiance
“Well, Prince, so Asgard and Abingora are now taken over by the Sinderby and merged with Ellesmere. But I warn you, this means war, if you still try to defend the atrocities and disgrace inflicted by them–I will have nothing more say to you and you are no longer my friend or my brother. The Prince of Abingora, Charles Bellamy has been our friend for so long. We must help him." It was a bright and beautiful morning of June and the speaker is the well-known Edith Carlisle, the daughter of the 7th Earl of Grantham. She addressed it to Patrick Carlisle, a man of high rank and importance and her brother just as he was about to enter the room. "Calm down sister" replied the Prince in an assuring tone. Patrick Carlisle was a handsome looking, tall, young man dressed in a fine court uniform with a waistcoat, knee breeches and shoes. His hand rested on the formal court sword designed with a cut-steel hilt and embellishments. He went up to Edith and sat down beside her. "Dear sister, firstly tell me how you are. Set your mind at rest" said he without altering his tone. Edith took a deep breath and said "Can one be calm mentally at things like these? Can one be well while suffering morally? " she paused as she continued to say "You must stay here tonight. I'll make arrangements for you" and smiled at him. Prince Patrick always spoke compassionately and had a good ear to everything anyone would say. He is a generous, thoughtful and a considerate person. Edith on the other hand was impulsive, and a sheer enthusiast. Her compassion for the people knew no bounds. She never turned a blind eye to the sufferings of her people. A subtle smile always played on her pretty face which added to her charm. In the evening the family sat down for dinner. While having dinner James, father of Edith started discussing how Ellesmere has taken over Asgard and Abingora. How Ellesmere and Asgard joined together to attack Abingora from all sides and capture it. In the midst of the conversation on political matters Edith Carlisle burst out: “Oh, don’t speak to me of Ellesmere. I don’t understand things, but what I do understand is Abingora never has wished, and does not wish, for war. Methilore must save Abingora. Our sovereign has to do the noblest job by helping them. That is the only thing I have faith in! Our good and wonderful sovereign has to perform the noblest role on earth, and I believe God will not forsake him. We must alone avenge the war. We want nothing for ourselves but only desire the best for mankind. Also what has Ellismere promised Abingora? Nothing! And whatever little they promised they would not perform. I have faith only in God." She paused feeling shy at her own outburst. Prince Patrick poured a glass of juice and handed it to her. As Edith settled down herself, the Prince said "You have given us a lot to think about. And I must tell you my dear Edith that you won't be disappointed when you will hear from us next regarding this matter." When the Carlisles were thinking of how to free the people of Abingora from the atrocities of the Sinderbys of Ellesmere, far in the east in the land of mist there was a young boy. His name was Atticus. He was gifted with the power to see the future. He played around on the grass covered field unaware of the fact that in the years to come he would become one of the saviours of Methilore and Abingora. The future of the two great kingdoms rested on his shoulders.
