THE MONKEY GAME

1803 Words
The only players left are Denton and the second player. The second player was left with four cards, while Denton was left with three cards. Between this seven cards, only one will make them the monkey. Denton knows that he is not on the advantage as the game started, since he lost a lot of cards just after starting the game. Still, he was feeling surreal that he is still sitting strong in front of the table, playing with the second player. Although Denton was proud that he got into the final cut, he chose not to be happy first, since there is still a possibility that he can be eliminated in just one wrong move. “Just one player and you’re done, Denton,” he uttered to himself silently. “Maintain your focus and do not let the other player make you lose your momentum.” The second player started on grabbing one card from Denton’s card leaving him with only one card. The player wad lucky to not make a pair of card. Denton placed his finger through his opponent’s card and grabbed a card. It was number four, and fortunately, Denton has no number four with him. “Hmm,” the other player mumbled as he looked at Denton’s cards. “I think this will do,” he muttered as he grabbed a card from Denton’s hand and was shocked to see what the card was. “s**t. I am doomed...” The other player placed his pair of six’s on the table, leaving him with only one card. Denton’s hand was shaking as he grabbed the other player’s card. He was not yet done placing the pair of cards when one of the monitoring cards shot the second player on the head, striking a lot of blood to Denton’s face who was just facing the now-deceased player. “We now have the monkey,” the shuffling guard grabbed the card that was secretly placed on the container and showed Denton what was it. “The monkey and the winner of table three is Player M-22.” It was the four of spades, and Denton wad holding the four of hearts, making him the monkey of the game. He was not the holder of the four of hearts when the game started. It was actually from the fifth player and was transferred until it arrived to the second player. Since Denton only has one opponent, he tried to focus as much as possible. He did it, as he pulled the four of hearts from the second player’s hand. The moment he pulled the number four from the player’s hand, it was made that he was destined to survive at that rate. His monitoring guard offered him a walk to the platform after the gate of the battlefield. While walking, he placed his eyes to see whether his three teammates are still on the run, and all of them are actually still miraculously surviving. He sat on the platform, together with the winners of table four and fifteen, who finished the game earlier than Denton. “You can do it, guys. I know you all can do it.” After seeing Denton leave the table and was guided to the front, Paul’s hope rose up and asked the bearer of destiny stick to him. “I just need to defeat these two,” he mumbled as he looked at his card, which has four unique numbers, and were completely different from each other. “I just have to make sure to win this round, and the rest, I will just let the bearer of destiny do it,” he muttered as he looked at his card being taken by the other player. “It’s not the monkey card...” he noted as he saw the other player take it down together with his existing piece. The other player grabbed the only one card from the player after Paul that caused him his death, since he only has one card, and was gotten by the other player. It’s Paul’s turn to get the card. He grabbed a card. It was the seven of diamonds and it turned out it was a card that neither him or the other player has a pair for it in their existing cards. “This must be the monkey card,” he mumbled as he smiled internally. Knowing that the card has no pair for both Paul and the other player’s existing card infers that it was the monkey card, in which the pair was inside the container. “Now, this is the battle of wit. If he realizes what I realized, no one knows who will win.” The other player, however, grabbed the card that was beside the seven of diamon card that Paul got. Paul grabbed a card from the other player’s existing card and placed the card and the pair of it on the table. The other guy just have three options from Paul’s cards. It is either the two which was not his from the first or get the card that was his, originally. The player grabbed the card that was not his, in the first place and was forced to place the card and its pair on the table. That was the time when Paul smiled as he sensed his victory. Paul grabbed the one left card from the opponent’s hand, which cost the other player his life. “Player J-04 is the winner of the game in the table four.” The shuffling guard of his table grabbed the hidden card and showed the seven of diamonds, similar to his card. “Congratulations. You can now go to hall of winners.” His monitoring guard guided him towards the hall of winners and while he was still far from the place, he ran and went towards Denton. “I did it, Denton,” he muttered as he looked at the other tables who are still waiting to find their winners. “Now, Sandra and Jannah just have to win the games.” “That’s right,” Denton muttered, sticking his gaze towards Sandra and Jannah who were still surviving amidst the game. “I know they can do it but why do I keep on feeling something today?” Paul looked at him, hoping that it was not a bad fate Denton wad feeling. “But, I have to trust Sandra and Jannah for this. I have to keep in mind that these two are the two of the strongest women I know.” He looked at Paul with worried eyes. “They can make it here together with us, Paul, right?” Paul tapped Denton’s back. “Of course, they can do that, Denton. You should not worry about them. It is given that they are beauties, but they are also brawns and brains. They are excellent in individual and team games, so you must not worry,” Paul assured. “I mean, yeah, I am worrying too...” He gave an awkward laugh. “But like what you said, they are strong women. They can do that.” Sandra felt the pressure on the sixth table as she was left to play the game with two other guys. Though unfortunate, Sandra knows that these two are just two of Hector’s people. She knows that she might be harmed, staying with these two guys, but she was happy to know that the guards are fair in playing this game. They do not mind the existing war between the players; they are just there to punish and eliminate people who must be eliminated. “You, next,” the shuffling guard muttered as one of the guys grabbed one of Sandra’s card. It was really a strong, intentional pull, causing Sandra to lose grip on her cards. He claims it was an accident but the guards are not claiming it. He was killed for being too aggressive, at the moment Sandra was picking her cards. “The game head wants the players to play clean from the time being. This is a card game and being too aggressive do no better.” One of the monitoring guards picked up the cards that was held by the dead player. “To continue, you will be given the eliminated player’s cards. Since there will be five, two will be given to the other player and the three will be given to the assaulted player.” Sandra did not feel like she was assaulted at all, but she enjoys the benefits being given to her by the guards. The game continued as both of them started on feeling the heat of the game. They continued on pulling cards from one another, with Sandra remembering every details that she is getting. “Since this is the card that both of us has no pair with...” she muttered, internally. Sandra was looking with the other player who looks like he’s not thinking while playing. “Then, this must be the monkey card? Since the card looks both useless to the both of us...” The match continued as Sandra grabbed a card from the opponent and placed the pair of it, together with the card, on the table filled with used cards. Then there was the time that the opponent only has two cards while Sandra still has three. The opponent grabbed a card and placed the pair on the table, and that was his last move. Sandra grabbed the card and placed its pair, together with the card, on the table, as she looks at her opponent who was being shot dead on the head. “The winner of the sixth table has been recognized,” the shuffling guard said as she grabbed the container with the monkey card on it. It is of similar number with the last card Sandra was holding. “Your monitoring guard will now guide you to the hall of winners...” While Sandra was being happy to survive in the sixth game, she looked back at the fifth table and saw Jannah who was still playing. She can’t help but to worry about her, since Denton, Paul and she have already won the game on the table. Jannah has a special place in her heart, so she wishes Jannah to survive more than she wishes her survival. She thinks Jannah is too young to die, and that she must experience things that she already has. “Will she be okay?” she mumbled as she placed her gaze on Jannah who was focused on playing the game. Jannah’s gaze turned to Sandra who was guided towards the hall of winners. The younger woman just smiled and assured Sandra that she will be okay. “Will she survive...?”
