Episode 3 - Contract

            There were three gentlemen seated in the meeting table and one person sign me to sit. I murmured “Thank you” and sat. I am nervous and my sound did not come out. It was very short interview, out of three gentlemen, only two persons were keep asking me question and 3rd person was silent throughout the interview. None of them were friendly and most of questions were how best I can handle household and whether I can take care elderly person. I felt like I came for a household assistance job interview. Anyway, I did not have any choice. I answered my best possible way and I was out of room within 20 minutes. Last sentence from them was “Thank you, we will inform if you get select” ….

I walked receptionist again and thank her for the opportunity. Either I will get select or not, still she is the person who gave me this chance. I went back home as today I didn’t have my shift in coffee shop.

“ Mum…” I entered the home, looking for my mother. I found her in the room. She is on bed.

“ Are you ok Mum?” I kept my hand on her forehead to see whether she got fever. She looks very dull.

“ I am ok Tania, I think my pressure shoot up. I am having slight headache… What happened to your interview? … ” Mother asked me. I did not have word to say. I did not want to tell her about the weird job which I gave interview one hour ago. Yes, its weird.

“It went well Mum… Maybe I might have a chance. But if I get it then I cannot live here because they demand to live in office quarters due to lot of Marketing work. It is a group of company so marketing division is very busy it seems. I am not sure whether I will get or not. There was lot of applicants. Hope for the best Mum!!! ” I couldn’t finish my conversation with mother, I heard door bell is ringing.

“ Tania, check who is there? May be milk man must have come to collect the payment. Do you have money to pay? ” Mother asked me.

“Yes I do”.. I answered her and went to open the door.

“ Ms. Tania Vandessay”  Unknown person in front of door and asked for me. He is with full suit and looks like from a company.

“ Yes, Its me.. ” I was scanning him top to bottom and replied.

“ Hi! Ms. Vandessay, I am Richard from Hansan Group. This is your contract and I want your signature on it if you are willing to join.  Your work starts from tomorrow…” Richard was telling entire thing at one breath and I was breathless to answer him.

“Ms Vandessay.. Are you with me? ” Again he calls me so I came back to earth.

“ Yes, Yes, Mr Richard. Can I see it? Please come in and take a seat” Richard gave me the contract and came inside house. I also sat in front of him and started to read the contract. It’s full of conditions. Basically, I do not have freedom. I must live as per Boss’s requirements and salary is good. Most importantly I am eligible for Monday off so I can stay with my mother. Anyway, I don’t have choice and cannot NO to this job. I need to look after mother. Without any second thought, I signed and handed over contract to him. Richard gave me another copy for me.

“Ok, Ms Vandessay…. Welcome on board. I will see you tomorrow at office. Please be at same reception latest by 0900 hours. Do not worry about your luggage, I will arrange a driver tomorrow evening to pick up from home but please bring necessary ones only. Boss does not like too many things in the room. He feels cluttered.” Richard said and went out without entertaining me for further questions.

I was stunned. What Boss has to do with my room? I was confused.

“Tania… ” I heard my mum voice and it broke my chain of thoughts.

“Yes, mum, coming… ” I answered her and went to inform her about the job.
