Chapter 24

Aria A soft light hit my eyes as I blinked them open, looking around I let out a silent groan, it was still dark outside, I could catch a bit more sleep. My eyes caught the time the wall, 4:00am, “Shit.” That witch would be here any moment from now, I groaned. Could I even stand? I wondered. But at the thought of getting soaked in cold water especially on a freezing morning, and then getting beat in such state, I shivered subconsciously from the thoughts and forced myself to stand, I had to at least try. Surprisingly I stood without any hitches or issues, except for the soreness in my muscles everything felt as good as new. I flexed my arms, how is this even possible? My wolf wasn't active now so technically my healing should be slower than a snail. My mind flashed back to the soothing hand and balm from my dream, it seemed like it was actually real. Must be Cassy. “You're up, good. Saves me the stress, Training Field now.” Those familiar cold voices ordered before disappearing exactly the same way they came. Are they ghosts sent to hunt me or what? How come I never hear their footsteps or anything to indicate company? Fussing over my sore body I grabbed something on and chased after her, I didn't need to give her an excuse to lay hands on me more than necessary. ************************ Training Grounds “You're late,” she said calmly. “My body is sore” I whined, glaring at her, this was her fault and she's here complaining. “That's not an excuse. Run 20 laps” I rolled my eyes, “Yeah right.” “30” she added sitting crossed legged and looking at me. “You must be kidding. You can't punish me, I'm not a kid” “40” she increased, raising an eyebrow as if daring me to challenge her. Something in her eyes told me that was exactly what she was hoping for. With a huff I took off, starting with a slow jug, by the time I had run five laps my body was totally soaked from sweat. I stopped, slumping to the ground, does she have a grudge against me? I wondered, what the hell have I done to deserve this. In addition to the soreness of my muscles, they were beginning to ache once more, as if in remembrance of what they had to go through the day before. I sprawled on the sand, too tired to lift as much as a finger, a soft voice came from behind me, clear but absolute. “Complete the lap in an hour princess. Don't test my limit” I groaned, “do you ever shut up?” “Fifty minutes,” she replied. That shut me up, “Cheater” I muttered under my breath. She didn't respond, it seems she didn't hear, good. Pushing my body, I forced myself to continue, I didn't want to know what punishment she had for me beyond this. By the time I finished the sun was already out, I fell flat on the sand, unable to feel anything. My chest rose and fell heavily, I couldn't feel my thighs. A shadow loomed over me looking at me distastefully, “Two hours and thirty minutes for just forty laps. You're weak.” I scoffed, “at least I completed it.” She shook her head, “Training starts in five minutes” Soon I forced myself to stand, looking at her expectantly, would she finally teach me something today? “Attack” she said with the same bored look from yesterday, like she'd rather be elsewhere. My jaw nearly dropped, “You can't be serious” “I am. Attack princess” Something ugly coiled around me, on realizing something, “you put me in a vegetative state yesterday and today you wish to repeat the same thing without care? You didn't even ask how I am, you don't care if I leave or die.” I snarled. “Okay?” She looked at me like a child throwing a tantrum. I suddenly let out a low chuckle, “You know what. f**k this, I quit, if you're so eager to have a punching bag find someone else to bully, but I'm done” I let in one breath. She doesn't reply, just watching me, as if her eyes were trying to study a puzzle that was me. I snorted and turned to leave, something swept me off my feet, and I found myself crashing hard into the sand. My lips bit the dust, my head banged like crazy, her figure loomed over me, “Pathetic” she spat. “Weak, spineless and utterly pathetic. Even a pup here can run forty laps in an hour without breaking out a sweat.” “Sure. Have them run it then” I wasn't backing down, I tried to stand but her heels dug into my back forcing me back down, pain erupted in my spine. I fought hard to push her off my back but she didn't so much as flinch, “and this is how you fight Stanley I presume? Or how you stand next to Prez?” She scoffed then leaned down, she pushed her weight off me but dragged me up by the hair till I was at eye level with her. I winced from the pain, trying to push her hands from my hair, but she tugged even harder. “You're not just weak, you're pathetic too. You want to be his Luna? Well this is his world, the weak only get beaten and chopped. He can't always protect you princess, wake up from your fantasy of a knight in shining armour, he's none of that, Prez bathes in blood and unless you can stand tall beside him you'll be eaten up.” Tears blurred my vision, the pain from my scalp making it harder to think, but her words cut even deeper, “Why do you hate me?” Her eyes twinkled with amusement, “You're not worth hating princess.” She released her hold and I curled back instantly, “Now, get up and attack.” She barked. I scrambled to my feet with tears and snot trickling down my face, ignoring the pain shooting through every part of me, by the time it was over I was in a much worse position than before. It felt like she had put extra effort in today's beating, like she was angered. My mouth tasted ash, blood trickled down like water, but I lay motionless and numb. Her body stopped above mine, she barely had so much as a scratch on her, “You asked for this. You want freedom, well this is exactly what freedom is, you want it then deal with it, talk about quitting once more and I'll end you myself.”
