Aria
The air was sterile, disinfectant filled my nose followed by a familiar clanking of metals.
“No. No. No.” I whispered, my voice trembling from dread.
“Aria. Come here sweetie,” a voice boomed in a sickening sweet tone. I found myself running, faster than I ever had in my life.
My heels dug into the slippery tile, trying to escape the voice that was everywhere, but as usual, something shackled me down. I couldn't leave. I was stuck here.
“You thought you could escape?”
That cruel face ran his hand down my face. I tried to keep running, but I found myself strapped to a table.
I thrashed wildly, “You can't do this. You can't,” I screamed, my voice trembling.
His face came into full view, shining wickedly, “You're mine, no matter where you run to,” his hands gripped my chin harshly, “mine.” He growled.
Despair washed over me. I was tired, he was right. “I can't escape,” I whispered.
He nodded, caressing me obsessively, “You'll forever belong on this table, that's what you're made for.” He whispered.
“I….”
“Aria,” a voice called out from the distance, a voice way too familiar, "Princess, I'm here, calm down. I've got you.”
“He's got me.” I whispered, feeling a strange sense of calm around me, “Cain.” I whispered.
“Yes doll, follow my voice. Listen to it.”
The scene before me disappeared as my pupils blinked open. I was back, in the comfort of my room, a hard rock body cradled me on his chest while carrying me.
I blushed and tried moving. “Stay” he whispered, his voice calm.
We stayed like that for a while. I listened to the soft hum of his breath, letting it guide me, it felt so right yet so wrong on many levels.
My body felt hot, and not just from his warmth, some kind of heat curled inside me.
“Why are you here?” I ask, curious, and eager to distract myself.
“You had a nightmare. I'm the only one here,”
“Right.” I nodded, how did I forget? We share an entire floor.
“How are you settling in?” His voice was barely loud, like he was holding back.
“The trainer you assigned hates me and wants me dead.”
He chuckled, “If Mika wants you dead, you'd be dead before I can reach you.”
“She hates me.” I grumbled.
“She doesn't.”
“I want a new trainer,” I whined.
“No. Mika is the best, she'd train you in exactly what you need. Besides, the fight is in five days, you need all the help you can get.”
I jumped up, “Five days?”
“Yeah, that's the customary day after every duel challenge not fought instantly.
I felt my brain short circuit, “Damn,” I choked out.
“Yeah.” He nodded
“Fine, but at least tell your little miss trainer to take it easy.”
“Mika is giving you exactly the training you need. Just open up the doll, you'll see that the shoe fits perfectly.”
“Of course you'll support her, Alpha.” My voice dripped with sarcasm.
His chuckle rumbled through his chest, then he stood, my eyes trailed his bare chest and I felt my cheeks beat flame.
“You…” I pointed at him and turned instantly, why the heck is he bare?
“Why so shy?” he breathed directly into my ear. My breath hitched when did he get so close.
My toes curled, “Shift”
His body was directly pressed behind mine, warm breaths on my ears, my brain went haywire, thinking shooting straight to the roof, “And if I say no?”
I moved my trembling legs forward, not understanding why I felt so tense. “Stay away from me,” my voice shook.
He gave out a throaty hum, “Sure princess, get ready for your sessions, keeping Mika waiting does you no good.”
I shivered on remembering that cruel face, “Can't I get someone else? All she does is beat me up.” The words came out quieter than intended.
“She's the best love. You have to manage,” he said softly. “You've trained for two days, three more days, and you'll be facing off against Stanley, trust Mika.”
“Fine.” I grumbled, arms folded. Suddenly, something occurred to me, “Why are you in my room?”
“What do you think?” He walked around to stand in front of me, now wearing a casual black top.
One that hugged his body, his muscles bulged from the arms. Where did it come from?
“You look like you want to eat me raw,” his smug voice pulled me from the abyss.
I scoffed, “You really need to get your head checked. Everything isn't about you,” I mentally cursed at myself, was I just checking him out openly? What the heck
“Anything that lets you sleep at night doll”
I just wanted to smack that look off his face, “ugly jerk, get out of my room.”
“Definitely, but first, tell me princess,” his gaze turned serious, voice solemn. “Who haunts your dreams?”
“None of your business,” I snapped.
He chuckled, then grabbing my wrist, he dragged me into his space, with his body towering over mine, “No one, and absolutely gets to torment what's mine, not even in her sleep. I don't just claim princess, I protect, even against the gods of this world. I will burn this whole f*****g earth if I have to.”
Our breaths mingled, my heart raced watching the silver in his pupils deepen, showing just how serious he was.
“Now princess, answer my question. Someone hurt you, I intend to find who.” His voice left no room for debate.
Tears blurred my vision, my heart tightened, “Please,” I whispered, not wanting to remember.
His gaze softened, he closed his eyes and, on opening them, they had returned to their normal shade.
“Rest. But I will get my answers soon. And it'll be doomsday for whoever laid their hands on you.” He said softly, and with that he released me.
The door jammed shut while I was still dumb stricken. “What had just happened?”
