Raine's Perspective
A faint sweetness touched my parched mouth, and I jolted awake.
I choked, coughed, and opened my eyes to find myself lying on the hard tile floor.
A white light blazed overhead, stinging my eyes.
I struggled to push myself upright and saw several human staff members in uniforms standing around me. Their expressions were a mix of disgust, wariness, and suspicion—but more than anything, they looked like they were staring at trouble that had appeared out of nowhere.
"Awake?" The man who had just fed me glucose water asked coldly. "You collapsed at the embassy entrance. You had nothing on you that could identify you. Who are you? Where did you come from?"
My voice was hoarse and urgent. "I... I need to get into the human town... I need help... It's an emergency."
They exchanged glances. A couple of them helped me over to the counter and pushed a piece of paper and a pen toward me. "Fill in your basic information first, and show us your ID."
Right, my ID! My muddled brain started working again.
I reached for my sleeve, but the moment my fingers slipped inside, my breath stopped.
There was nothing there!
I frantically searched my entire sleeve, then my pockets. Nothing.
It must have fallen out when I rolled off the cart, or slipped out while I was rushing along the road.
Without identification, there was no way for me to enter the human territory!
"Your ID?" The man frowned hard.
My mind was buzzing. I opened my mouth, trying to explain who I really was.
"I'm sorry! I lost my ID, but I really need to get back to the human town. Five years ago, I was—"
A sudden commotion broke out outside the embassy, followed by the sound of approaching footsteps—chaotic and urgent.
Several footsteps came closer, carrying an oppressive force I couldn't mistake.
I whipped my head around, and my entire body went rigid.
Ronan stood in the doorway, three or four people behind him, dressed in a bespoke suit, his face burning with fury.
His eyes swept coldly over the front desk, then landed heavily on me.
His expensive leather shoes clicked against the floor as he advanced step by step, radiating an aura that allowed no argument.
"You... you're Lord Ronan? We're honored by your presence, but—"
"This is my person. I've come to take her back." He cut the staff member off immediately.
The staff were stunned by the sudden confrontation. "Alpha, but..."
"There's no 'but.'" Ronan bent down, reached out, and grabbed my arm with a grip so strong it hurt. "Pretend nothing happened today."
"No! Let me go!" I struggled desperately, shouting, "I won't go with him! Help me!"
But the difference in strength was too great. He dragged me out by force, and my feet slipped on the tiles. I nearly fell.
The staff clearly hadn't expected an Alpha to show up in person. They exchanged looks, not daring to interfere.
Ronan didn't give them time to react. He pulled me into a small side room used for handling disputes and shut the door behind us.
His subordinates stood guard outside.
The door slammed shut.
He flung me toward the wall, and my back hit the surface.
Two steps away, he looked down at me, a cold sneer of anger finally surfacing on his face.
"Have you had enough?" he asked.
I bit my lip and didn't answer, my right hand gripping my left arm until it turned red.
"Come back with me." He stared at me, the two words slipping from his thin lips.
I remained motionless, as if I hadn't heard.
"I don't want to say it a second time." His voice grew harsher.
"Enough." I shook my head, on the verge of breaking down.
"Ronan, I've served you for five years. Five whole years. Isn't that enough? Just pretend you didn't find me today. Let me go. Go back and continue your wedding, and I'll live my own life. We won't interfere with each other."
His eyes darkened. "Do you think you can leave just because you want to?"
"Why not? You're a high and mighty Alpha. Are you short of women? Short of slaves?"
"I told you, you belong to the Pack. Without my permission, you're not going anywhere."
"Ever." His expression was so calm it was almost ruthless.
Ever.
I couldn't hold on any longer. My legs gave way, and I sank to the floor. Like a madwoman, I clawed at my own hair, hot tears streaming down my face.
Watching all this, Ronan froze for a moment, then stepped forward and reached out to pull me up.
I lashed out at his face, my nails scraping across his cheekbone and leaving a red mark.
"Enough! I said, f*****g enough! Don't you understand?!" I threw myself at him again with all my strength, my fists hammering against his shoulders. He didn't fight back. He only used his arms to block, letting me hit him over and over.
"Raine, stop!"
His face showed pain, restraint, even disbelief.
He must have thought this version of me was a stranger.
Good. It should be like this. This was what I had endured for five years!
"Do you have any f*****g idea what kind of life I lived in there?" I screamed hysterically. "When you're happy, you sleep with me. When you're not, you make me kneel. You think buying me makes me your property? You're a bastard, you know that?!"
Silas, who had heard the commotion and opened the door, went from shock to utter disbelief at the sight of us struggling.
He rushed forward and pulled me away. "Alpha, this Omega is insane! All the trouble she's caused over the years—according to Pack rules, she should have been severely punished long ago. It's only because you've been lenient with her that she's gotten away with it. And now she has the nerve to ask to leave the Pack? She even attacked you!"
He glared at me viciously. "Which Pack are you originally from? You know what happens to those who are exiled. Once you become a Rogue, someone like you won't survive!"
Rage made my chest heave violently. I swallowed the taste of blood in my mouth, shoved Silas away, and screamed with my hands clutching my head.
"Screw the Pack! I don't have one!"
Silas was stunned by my outburst.
"I was never some Omega looking for work! I was trafficked here! I'm human! I have my own life in human society!"
"It's because of this damn Pack that my life was destroyed! Every second I spend here makes me sick!"
I had screamed myself hoarse, my shoulders convulsing. Tears stained my clothes and the floor.
Through the gap in the door, the human staff members who had been watching the scene turned serious.
I lifted my head and shouted: "I am a human who was forcibly sold to a werewolf Pack. I want to go home!"
