A human girl fell in love with an alpha, then ran away with his baby.

-

I was eighteen when I was sold into the pack and made an omega.

By day I was ordered around; by night, I was claimed by him.

Five years. Ronan never marked me, but he never let me go either. The day he was to marry Luna, I ran.

I thought I was finally free. Until he showed up outside my rented apartment — that once-untouchable Alpha heir, crouching clumsily under the streetlamp.

I turned to leave, but he caught my wrist.

"Wren," he said. "This time… will you come with me?"

Chapter One
Raine's Perspective It wasn't yet dawn when Ronan woke me. His tall body pressed down on me, his hands kneading my chest. My back brushed against the wound from yesterday's border patrol, and I sucked in a sharp breath of pain. The Alpha's heavy, invasive pheromones hung in the room, thick and hot. "Alpha, we already did it once last night... my wound hasn't healed. Maybe next time..." My lower body was already growing wet, and I couldn't help letting out a soft, unbearable whimper. His hand slid downward, pushing aside my underwear, and he let out a low laugh. "Your body says otherwise." When his c**k pushed inside me, I instinctively arched my neck. His kiss landed on the back of my neck, a numbing tingle crawling down my spine, but he didn't bite. "Ah... slower..." I wrapped my arms around his back, hearing my own voice—both shameful and unable to stop. As always, Ronan's movements were tender at our most passionate moments, but more often than not, it was simply possession. He was the powerful Alpha of Ashgrave, and I was only his Omega slave. I had once poured my feelings into him. When I was first trafficked here, he had treated me specially—his favor was my only comfort. But when I realized that in his eyes I was nothing more than a slave, a breeding machine, and that even my future children would be treated as slave stock for Ashgrave, I faced reality. Omegas in Ashgrave were worth less than pigs and dogs. Reason told me I must never fall in love with him, yet whenever I faced his face, I couldn't help sinking deeper. In this twisted relationship, I had spent five years with him. At the peak, he pulled out with a sigh. Daylight had fully broken. He threw off the covers and got out of bed, putting on his outer clothes with his back to me, his face already carrying impatience. I propped up my weak body and sat up, my lower body still wet, the wound on my back burning and itching from sweat, yet I still had to kneel and serve him while he washed. Finally, he wiped his face with a cloth and tossed it back into the basin, splashing water onto my hand. Lazy pig. I cursed inwardly. "I'm leaving." He hooked a finger under my chin and walked toward the door. I followed. On the way back to the pack center, Ronan got into a car. The noble Alpha rode in a luxury vehicle, while lowly Omegas like me, even covered in wounds, could only squeeze into the back of a messy truck. Amid the jolting, I recalled the past. I was a wolfless person who had once lived in human society. I had a peaceful life, but I was accidentally trafficked into the Ashgrave Pack. When I first saw Ronan, I stood among a group of omegas, dressed in clean clothes on the surface, but underneath covered in bruises from resistance. And he stepped out of the car surrounded by his people. Extraordinarily handsome, spotless, his eyes met mine. A forest-like deep green, calming, drawing you in... I stared, transfixed, all my emotions falling silent. Then he smiled with curiosity. His delicate features relaxed like a lake after rain. "So infatuated—let her serve me personally." He tilted his head, his voice pleasant. Clearly spoken to the slave manager, yet it felt as though he was speaking to me. At that moment, I thought I had been saved. Over five years, he would target any man who came near me without reason, yet he would also humiliate and suppress me in his fury, and then show unusual softness in private. He seemed to treat me only as his possession, never changing my lowly status, never marking me, never setting me free. The pack center training ground was full of people. Under the scorching sun, my throat was dry and I felt dizzy. Elder Elowen stood on the platform, her voice loud. I heard only fragments. She seemed to announce that Ronan had chosen his Luna, and the formal ceremony would be held next spring. The other party was the beloved niece of Kate, the Alpha of the Crestmoon Pack—matched in family and status. Ashgrave would have a true mistress. The crowd murmured. I stared at Ronan standing tall on the platform. The sunlight outlined his broad shoulders and beautiful jaw. The first time I saw him five years ago, I had been just as entranced. That young lady from Kate's pack was a suitable match for him, while I was nothing but a breeding tool. A sour ache rose in my chest. Stop fantasizing. Stop maintaining this unhealthy relationship. I told myself. My family and friends must never have given up searching for me. This wasn't the life I wanted. I wanted to return to human society, to continue university—not be a slave here! I must escape! As the meeting dispersed, I swayed and almost fell. Ronan brushed past me, his steps pausing. His brows furrowed, a flicker of emotion flashing by, then only coldness remained: "What's wrong with you? Distracted at an occasion like this—have I been too lenient with you lately?" He was a head taller than me, looking down with mild displeasure. "Get back," he said. "Don't embarrass yourself here." I swallowed my grievance, steadied my weak body, and lowered my head. "Yes." Back at the residence, Marta blocked the door. She managed the affairs of lower-ranking Omegas and had made things difficult for me over the years because she thought Ronan treated me specially. She slapped a list into my chest. "Move these to the storeroom. Lena will go with you." Lena stood behind her, shoulders hunched. I glanced down. A dozen items, large and heavy, spread across three storerooms—impossible for two people to finish. "Two people aren't enough," I said. Marta sneered. "Then work harder. There aren't enough hands for the ceremony preparations. Who has time to count for you?" I took a deep breath, didn't argue, and headed to the storeroom. Lena followed. I bent over and lifted the largest wooden crate, the old wounds on my back and arms pulled numb. By the third trip, Lena's strength gave out. Several clay urns in her hands shattered at her feet with a crash. She froze in shock. Marta appeared at the door at some point, her voice shrill: "Lena, what are you doing? This thing is expensive! Half a month's rations docked, and go kneel in the back courtyard to reflect!" Lena's face turned white. I set down my load and couldn't help speaking up for her: "It's your poor assignment. Two people moving this much—anyone would have an accident." As soon as the words left my mouth, Marta's face fell. But before she could speak, I felt a rush of wind behind me. Someone crashed into me from behind. I stumbled sideways, smashing into the glass window beside me. Shards of glass pierced my shoulder and arm. A fiery pain shot through me, and before I could react, a basin of cold water splashed over me. I cried out. Water ran down my hair into my collar, mixing with blood and seeping downward. I wiped my face and turned. Sable stood two steps away, holding an empty basin, looking innocent. "Oh my, I didn't see you. My hand slipped!" My soaked clothes clung to my body, and I was utterly bedraggled. A circle of people had gathered, but no one spoke. I stared at Sable's heavily made-up face. She was Marta's adopted daughter, in love with Ronan and jealous of me, colluding with Marta! After repeated targeting, the anger I had suppressed for too long exploded. Unable to bear it any longer, I rushed over and slapped her across the face. A crisp smack—Sable's head snapped to the side, and she shrieked, clutching her cheek. "You b***h! How dare you hit me!" She lunged at me, trying to tear at my hair. Fighting through the pain, I grappled with her until bystanders pulled us apart. "Stop." It was Ronan's voice. The crowd parted, and he walked over with a dark face. Marta quickly fell to her knees and pointed at me, sobbing: "Alpha, it's all Raine's insubordination—she attacked and hit someone in public!" "I didn't! Lena can prove it!" I instinctively looked at Lena. Just now I had stood up for her—she could prove that Marta and Sable started it. But Lena shrank against the wall, her face pale, lips trembling, refusing to admit anything. "...I... I don't know anything..." My heart turned cold. Seeing this, Sable pushed through the crowd and threw herself into Ronan's arms, sobbing, showing him the red swelling on her face. "Alpha, it hurts so much..." I knelt on the ground, even though I was soaked, bleeding from my shoulder, fingers gripping the earth, yet stubbornly looking at Ronan. All day I had been ordered around, shoved, and doused—everyone had seen it. This time he should stand on my side, right? Ronan glanced down at Sable, but didn't push her away. Then he turned his head, and his forest-green eyes surged with thick gold. In an instant, my knees buckled uncontrollably, my throat felt as if it were being choked, and my whole body was pressed to the ground by an invisible force. Everything hurt. Especially my heart. It was Ronan, using his Alpha voice to command... and punish me. "Stay in this position, kneeling in the center of the training ground, until dark," he said.
