*Woaah look how big it is! And with so much forest - can I go for a run later??* Ruby jumps to the front of my mind.

*Of course - as soon as we’re settled we can explore, but I suspect you’ll get a workout in class now that you don’t have to stay hidden,* I reply

It’ll be so nice to get to be myself fully here - and for Ruby to meet some wolves. Maybe this won’t be so bad after all.

I say a quick goodbye to my mom in the car so it doesn’t get too emotional and scramble out. I see a group of students congregating on the lawn out front start to notice me.

I catch the eye of a guy standing in the center with a gaggle of she-wolves fighting for his attention. Wow he’s something, I think to myself. I can see his muscle definition from here and those blue eyes feel like they’re piercing into me. He looks serious, controlled, and like someone I wouldn’t want to meet in a fight. I bet he’s killer in bed too. I picture gripping my hands into his dark brown hair and kissing him desperately. I flush at the direction my thoughts are going and he c*cks his head to the side as if he’s wondering about me.

I convince myself he’s just not used to seeing new students, lift my chin , force a small smile and begin to make my way towards the entrance. I make it 2 steps before I try to peek back at him, and I see he’s still watching me curiously.

I falter, forget my shoes are still untied, trip, fall forward and dump coffee all down my white shirt.

Perfect.

I hear the girls around him laughing at me as I pick myself and my things back up, keep my eyes down and scurry inside.

*Smooth Jade. Real smooth* Ruby laughs.

*I know I know I have 2 left feet* I snap back, annoyed at myself.

It feels even bigger inside, or maybe I just feel smaller thanks to the ginormous coffee stain on the front of my shirt. Fortunately the office is right by the entrance and it doesn’t take me long to get registered and directed to my dorm.

I make my way to my room keeping my head down and ignoring the stares I’m getting , no doubt because of my messy state . I find my room, and duck inside.

There’s a small girl with dark hair and soft features sitting on a bed in a lovely yellow summer dress, with her face buried in a book.

“Hi there, I’m Jade,” I introduce myself awkwardly as I throw my bag down and begin hunting for another shirt.

She jumps a bit as if she didn’t hear me walk in. “Oh you must be my roommate! I’m Katie it’s so nice to.. oh what happened to your shirt??”

*She’s forward - I like that* Ruby pipes up.

“I have 2 left feet” I shift my weight - she’s staring at me as I’m supposed to get changed. I’m not used to having anyone see me undress even if it’s pretty common for werewolves to do before we shift.

She looks at me puzzled. “Are you a transfer student? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you around before.. I grew up in this area and my father’s the Beta of the Bluemoon pack nearby so I’ve met most wolves around here!”

I turn my back to her and pull my shirt off scrambling to get dressed quickly. “Umm sort of? My parents sent me to a human school up until now. My mom’s not a wolf so they don’t live with a pack”

Her eyes widen. “Your dad went rogue?! You’re a half breed?! I didn’t know we could even be mated to a human anymore. Do you even have a wolf?”

Yeah she’s forward alright..

I feel face start to heat up as Ruby growls a bit in my head. *relax girl she’s just curious - if we can’t handle her we’re going to have a hard time with the others in a public setting,* I calm her and take a breath.

“Yes of course I have a wolf - I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t. I guess my dad went rogue? He told me it was a very amicable departure and he visits from time to time. I guess not everyone wanted a human in the pack house and they weren’t sure what to expect from me as it’s not that common for wolves to be mated to other species.”

I get an unwelcome flash of the fangs from my dream. What the hell..

“Wow you’re sure to ruffle some feathers around here. You know how territorial wolves can be. Or maybe you don’t.. either way this should be fun!” She gives me a devilish smile and I decide I like her.

“Yeah maybe for you! You’re not the one who bailed in front of a god-like guy out front pouring coffee all down your shirt.” I sigh remembering the moment.

“Oooh you must have met Xander. Hot isn’t he? Every girl here wants him - he’s in line to be alpha. But he hasn’t found his mate yet and most girls here are already of mating age. I thought given my beta lineage it might be me but alas I turned 18 last month and nothing,” she shrugs her shoulders.

Xander. Strong name, fits him perfectly. I look up and see Katie still watching me and flush.

“Ooo you have it bad! Well I hope you take disappointment well - he’s not exactly the easiest to get to know,” she warns and taunts simultaneously.

“Well I’m not 18 yet but I doubt the daughter of a human and a rogue is mated to an alpha. Plus he’s probably just a c*cky guy used to getting whatever he wants. Sure he’s hot but that’s not enough for me. No thanks!” I say firmly mainly to convince myself.

“Ooo an unmarked outsider who’s not of age yet - you my friend are going to be the talk fo the school!” She laughs and stands approaching me.

“I know classes aren’t until this afternoon - can I maybe suggest you borrow something of mine? It’s the first time everyone’s going to see you and I bet you have a killer figure under all that boxy clothing,” she halts and sniffs making a face of disgust, “did you even shower today???”

Crap I forgot about that. I sigh. “Honestly Katie I was so late I didn’t have time. Sure maybe you can help me look good for day one, but I’m really not one for a lot of make up or girly things!”

She claps her hands, jumps up and down and gives a little squeal “YES MAKEOVER! Go shower now and don’t forget to shave! I have the perfect dress for you!” she pushes me towards the bathroom and I immediately regret agreeing to this.
