Matthew and his siblings reluctantly left their mother in her new apartment. They had not wanted to move her, but she had reached an age where she no longer wanted to manage such a large home. His siblings had supported her wishes and his decision. He had researched and visited many independent living facilities to ensure she had only the best. He hated that she would live so far away from him but at least it was only a few minutes from his son, Davey, and his family. Davey would visit her daily.
Ann looked around her new home. It was a small one bedroom, one bath apartment. It was nothing like her old home, but she believed she would be comfortable here. The last thing she ever wanted to be was a burden to her family and to care for such a large home required their help. They had plenty to do on their own.
Her new home was new and had builder grade neutral colors with the standard cream colored walls. Her daughters had hung some pictures to warm things up. They had moved just enough of her belongings in to make her new place seem homey but not overcrowded. They had set everything up and decorated the apartment prior to Matthew bringing her there. She appreciated that they did not want her to worry about anything.
Her favorite spot was going to be her little sunroom. She had been given a choice of a patio or sunroom. She chose the sunroom. Having the sunroom would allow her to enjoy the beauty of outside year-round. She was able to enter her sunroom through French doors off the living room. Once entering, she was welcomed by warm beams of sunlight pouring in through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows that made up the three exterior walls. The ceiling was made up of sky lights. The girls had added two chairs and some plants to the room. Yes, she was going to be right at home in this room. It was beautiful.
She was going to miss seeing Matthew and her girls daily but at least she would get to see more of Davey. She was so proud of her grandson. He had started his own computer programming company with his wife, Katelyn. Katelyn was sweet as could be and was a good wife to her grandson. They had met in college where both of them had studied to be computer programmers. They had been married for a little over two years and had just started their family. Landon was nine months old. He was so tiny. He had beautiful blond hair, big blue eyes, and a smile that warmed her heart. He reminded her of Davey when he was an infant.
She wondered around the apartment for a few hours moving things from one spot to another. She finally decided to make her way to the on-property restaurant to eat. She hoped the restaurant was nice and that she enjoyed her meal. Maybe she would meet someone of interest while there. They had given her a schedule of activities in her welcome packet. Maybe she would join in on some of them once she got more comfortable with everyone and her surroundings.
