Three He’d slept in the bed in the enormous master bedroom — or rather, he’d procured a new mattress to fit in the exquisitely carved bedstead, and slept on that — and awoke refreshed, feeling a cool breeze on his face from the window on the opposite wall. The day was sunny and promised to be comfortably warm and not hot, a blessing on this early October morning.
