Chapter 25

Hannah turned to me with an expression I don't understand. She zipped into the doorway and leaned outside the window. I walked towards her and tried to calm her down. "Uh," Olivia cleared her throat before us. "I'll just go get check who arrived." She said and left us. She's a silly person, mt cousin. But she does feel the tension between Hannah and me and decided that she doesn't want to include herself in the argument that is about to happen. "It's just my mom," I told Hannah. "You don't have anything to worry about." If glares could kill I'd be dead already. "You don't know that!" she hissed. "Of all the places you could bring me to, why on earth would you bring me here? And on nighttime? What kind of brain do you have, Peter?" I heaved a breath, trying to ignore the sting her words gave me. "Look, I'm sorry, okay? But this is the only safe place I know to keep you from dying! You're welcome!" "Safe? You think this is safe? Are you nuts? You just put the two of us in grave danger! Not just me but that girl and your mom as well!" "Hannah, what if you're just overreacting? I know you've been doing this your whole life but what the things you're used to don't happen all the time?" She tried to grab me by the collar but stopped herself halfway. "You're the most ignorant and stupid person I've met!" She pushed me away and proceeded to grabbing her gear I carefully placed on the counter. "If you don't believe everything I told you, I don't want to be here when Valeriouses come tearing this place apart." I puffed air and turned my back. "Say what you want. Once my mom gets here and she's checked you up, we'll leave immediately. I'll just go get Olivia." Speaking of my cousin, why isn't she back yet? She was just checking who's at the parking but she hasn't returned yet. I decided to go after her. She isn't usually silent when my mom arrives home. I turned to see Hannah putting back her weapons on her pocket, doing her best not to talk to me. I wouldn't be surprised if I come back inside and she's not around anymore. I stepped towards the door. "Olivia? Is mom home yet?" I grabbed the knob and realized that Olivia was speaking. I heard her giggling outside. I couldn't see who she was talking to or the things she was saying but I was able to make out her last sentence. "Oh sure! He's inside! Come on in!" Who was she talking to? My forehead creased and opened the door. Olivia was standing in the front porch. "Olivia, who is it?" She didn't answered. Nor did she moved. I couldn't quite see her because the light was out in the porch. It badly needs maintenance and I haven't been able to fix it yet. "Hey, Olivia!" The car parked outside our house wasn't the one my mom uses and it bothered me that I felt a knot twisting in my stomach. I walk carefully towards my cousin, stepping slowly towards her rigid frame. "Olivia?" My cousin keeled over sideways and dropped on the rose bushes beside the stairs. My heart stopped. My eyesight widened. My hands grew cold. Standing infront of me is a silhouette of a person I've met just the other night. He grinned at me. Lips wet with blood. Olivia's blood. "Hello, Peter." He smirked. "It's so good to see you again." Cold shrouded me like a sickening wrap. I couldn't process the things happened before me. My eyes darted to my cousin lying cold on the roses. Needles pricked my feet. I was stuck, dumbfounded. "W-what did you do to her?" I croaked. Victor gave me a bloody grin and opened his arms wide. A flash of light erupted between us and knife went zipping past me and embedded itself into Victor's chest. A thick white smoke covered the porch. Someone pulled me away from him and slammed me inside the house, locking the door. Hannah pushed me into the kitchen. "Just what I was saying! Do you realize what you've done!" My head was static. I don't know what to say or do. My cousin. Olivia was lying outside our door, bathing in her own blood. "We have to find a way to get out here!" Hannah snapped at me. "As long as we're inside the house, Victor won't be able to touch us. He couldn't get in unless his invited inside. But we'll be trapped so we can't stay either." I stared at her, horror enveloping me. She must've seen the dread on my face. She swallowed. "She invited him in, didn't she?" I didn't have to answer to confirm the question. The door exploded into shards and wooden debris. Hannah gave me a gun and a knife. "We need to leave now!" I crawled towards the kitchen and signaled her to follow me. "This way." "Hannah!" Victor stepped inside the house. We couldn't see him from where we are but I can tell he's already inside. "You know there's no use hiding from me. I can smell you perfectly fine." Damn it! Hannah took out two round disks from her pocket. One of them was similar to the one she threw at Victor outside. She fiddled with something inside the pocket and avoided looking at me. "Hannah!" Victor's voice echoed again, louder this time. "Peter. . . Or should I call you, Reivhen? Hmmn? How does that sound?" Hannah and I stared at each other. Both questioning what on earth the vampire in our midst was talking about. Hannah pushed me to go on to the kitchen exit. I crawled carefully, avoiding the things that could make noise. "Running away will do you no good, you know?" Victor kept talking in the living room as Hannah and I progressed in the exit door. "Lucky for you I do enjoy hide and seek. I did not have much fun when I was a kid." He chuckled. Was that statement supposed to make me feel sorry for him? "Hurry," Hannah whispered. I grabbed the knob to have the door opened. It creaked and cracked. Hannah cursed at me under her breath. "I told you, I love hide and seek," Victor said. "But I am a very impatient person!" Hannah kicked the door open, causing it to shatter. Kicking doors has become her hobby. She pushed me outside as Victor appeared behind us, cackling like a hen. Hannah kicked me and I fell outside into the cold ground of our garage. She stood up and faced Victor, throwing her round disc at him and an explosion of white smoke covered the entire house. The next thing I know, Hannah was dragging me alongside her as we trudged into the darkness of our neighborhood. All the street lights have been put out and we were running into nothing in particular. We sprinted into the night towards the volleyball court where some cars were still parked. "There!" She pointed towards a black SUV across the court but before we could reach it, Victor appeared infront of us. "This whole running away thing is boring me, Hannah. You really should stop." "Why? Way to old to indulge in children's game, Victor?" I didn't know where Hannah still gets the nerve to banter with the dude. That's something I gotta learn from her. To still be savage even in the verge of dying. Victor just made a face. "Give me the boy and we'll part ways like we always do." "What do you want from me?" I asked, glad that my voice didn't c***k. "You don't really realize who you are, do you, boy? I'd love to tell you but the occasion isn't suitable for a storytelling," he smirked. "Well, guess I could opt to tell you and just kill the both of you in the process. How does that sound?" "Sounds like bullshit like the vampire that you are, Victor" Hannah groaned. "Well," he sneered. "Then maybe killing you will be a better story!" A circle of fire erupted around us, locking us all in a ring of heat. Hannah gripped on her knife and I couldn't help but stare at her as she stared at Victor. Damn you, Peter, I heard her say. But she didn't opened her mouth. Damn you for getting us into this mess! D-did I just heard her thoughts? I turned back to Victor, the fire around us grew stronger and taller, trying to swallow us. Heat hissed at my senses, the flames dancing around me. I don't feel like burning yet but too much of this and I'd be toasted. "You have nowhere alse to go!" Victor cackled in laughter and two fire balls formed in his hands. He lifted both arms in the air and was about to throw it at us when there was a snap and whipping c***k. Victor suddenly fell face-first on the ground, an arrow implanted on his back. The ring of fire dissipated into a puff of smoke. Hannah and I stared at each other. When the smoke cleared, a dark silhouette stood infront of us, a few meters behind the fallen Valerious. "Jared?" Hannah called out. But it wasn't who we were expecting. The lights finally came back to life, illuminating the person who put Victor down. He had black army-cut hair, pale caucasian skin and a tall, mascular build. Like Victor and Hannah, he wore the same black leather trenchcoat. And like me, he wore the same necklace with a huge letter V pendant. Hannah gasped and lifted her gun towards the man. "Cedrick Valerious" "Put the gun down, halfblood," he replied. "I didn't come here to hurt you." His eyes found mine. A sickening sensation enveloped me. "Leave now before he wakes up." He nodded at the still unconscious Victor. "Why are you doing this?" Hannah asked. Cedrick turned to us, his eyes blue as ice. "I have reasons that does not concern you, halfblood. Now leave, it wouldn't be long before the serum loses it's effect on Victor." Hannah nodded gently and tugged at my shirt, signaling me to follow her. I walked backwards and eventually followed her. "Reivhen," Cedrick called. I wasn't sure if he meant me but I turned around anyway and met his gaze. "It is nice to finally meet you." __________________ To be continued...
