I blinked as I looked down towards shore, looking for Richard. I scanned the entire area, squinting before I finally saw the speck that was Richard.
I sighed in relief and began jogging towards him.
“Richard! Richard!” I yelled as I approached. But he didn't turn around from what he was doing in the sand. He probably didn't hear me.
But what was he doing? I wondered, stopping mid jog to squint again.
He was playing with the sand. No… making a sand castle. I blinked. Why was he –
Then I finally noticed them. The two kids hovering around Richard, shouting cheers. But… what were they cheering?
I continued walking, although my steps had slowed.
It was a competition. He and a laughing woman were competing for who could build a sand castle the fastest.
