Chapter 9: Hiiii....Mom

2240 Words
Hex woke to an empty bed. This was after Dimitri woke her for a fourth time to make love to her. How he managed to have so much f*****g energy was beyond her. Though it did explain why he was such a slut. No one woman could keep up with that every night. She groaned as she swung her legs off the side of the bed. Her whole body ached from the massive workout and near painful positions he had her in all night. She had assumed he had left, but she saw his shirt tossed on the floor next to her bathroom door way. Dimitri wouldn't have left without that surely. No, she knew he was probably smoking. Nasty habit that it was. Hex was unsure of how she felt about what happened. A part of her was immensely satisfied while the other part was deeply ashamed. She had grown to hate him and everything he stood for, yet one kiss was all it took to take her down and spread her legs for him not just once, but four f*****g times. What a f*****g joke she was. She ran her hand over her face and realized that she had slept with all her jewelry, including the ones in her hair. Great. Those would be a b***h to get out. Hex managed to stand on shaky legs and make her way to the bathroom connected to her room. Slowly she went to work on pulling off each item until there was a small mountain on the counter. When she was done, she turned to the shower. The smell of Dimitri's cologne and the musky smell of s*x clung to her like a shameful perfume. The hot water nearly made her collapse because it felt that good on her aching body. For a few minutes she merely stood there, letting it ease her muscles, then she began to scrub herself with the extra firm loofah that she rarely used. It seemed like today was the 'scrub your skin off' kinda day. Once she was clean, she ran a brush through her wet hair and towel dried it. Number one rule for wavy hair like hers. Never brush it dry unless you want a static mess to deal with. After a quick glance in the mirror she already felt better. When she went to her closet in her room, she inhaled the sudden smell of bacon and it made her stomach roll with hunger pains. It meant one thing. Her mother was here. Well...fuck. This was going to be awkward. Her mother knew exactly who Dimitri was and how much she had hated him. Explaining why he was in her house half naked was going to be awesome…not. With a sigh she pulled on an oversized t-shirt that hung off one shoulder and yoga shorts. She took a deep breath and exited her room. No cowards here! She spotted her mother first, standing in her kitchen over the stove. She was wearing a thin teal sweater that bellowed over her curvy hips and royal blue jeans. The wavy hair that Hex inherited from her was pulled up into a messy bun that always seemed to look good on her. Then she spotted Dimitri on the couch with Lucy's little body curled up on his bare tattooed chest. They were both fast asleep. Dimitri had one muscular arm curled around Lucy's body to prevent him from rolling and the other was curled over his head. Damn it all...the sight was beautiful. "Morning daughter mine." Her mother was smiling at her and then she looked at the pair on the couch who hadn't moved. Her voice was low enough to not disturb them. "Imagine my surprise when I found you two in bed." Blushes heated her cheeks hot enough to cook the bacon in the pan. Shame made her duck her head slightly to avoid her mother's amused grin. "Yeah, well...I didn't exactly plan it nor am I proud." Hex padded into the kitchen and grabbed a piece of bacon, shoving it into her mouth before her mother could scold her for the theft and retreated to the coffee pot. She needed the sweet concoction of life if she was going to function this morning. She had to take Lucy to the doctor for his check up in just a couple hours which was going to suck because a massive all night f**k session hadn't exactly been in the plans. "I can see why it happened though. Boy is much cuter in person. Pictures just don't do him justice." Her mother lifted her own already made mug to her lips. "He's still an asshole." Hex sighed and reached for a mug. A big one. She needed to load this fucker up with creamer and tons of sugar. Yep. "Seems pretty respectful to me. Though I did tell him he has to do a lot more than smile pretty to win our trust back." Hex snorted because she knew her mother had actually said it. "Bet he loved that." Her mother tossed her dark brown hair over her shoulder, "I know a spoiled rich boy when I see one, but he doesn't seem too bad. He seems to at least take his beatings with dignity." "It's a bit too early for you to be praising him mom. I don't have a lot of hope. You didn't see his face when he said those things to me. How easy it was for him to toss me aside." Hex poured the coffee into her mug of diabetes, letting the hot liquid mix it into the beautiful concoction of life she needed. "Yet you're going out with him? And sleeping with him?" Her mother pointed out and pulled out the bacon to the plate of finished ones. Well, well, well, he told her about that, huh? Hex sighed. "Sleeping with him wasn't in the plans mom, but he isn't wrong about confusing Lucy. I don't want him growing up knowing I hate his dad's guts. I don't have hope we'll be compatible but maybe I can at least get onto tolerable terms with him. I still have hope for Keith." Her mother motioned toward the small table she had in the kitchen window. There was a bowl of eggs, biscuits, breakfast gravy, toast, and now bacon. "Yeah, he's a good man. I like Keith. Does he know about his rival?" Hex just nodded and sank down into one of the two stool chairs. "Yeah. I mean not about what occurred last night, but he knows Dimitri is persisting." Her mother was quiet for a moment while she pulled three plates out. Finally she said, "I hate to say it honey...but that one there doesn't seem like the type to give up. As much as I like Keith...I just don't see that same strength." Hex nibbled her lip. "What do you mean?" Her mother sighed. "There are two kinds of men in the world. Alpha types. And Beta types. Dimitri is an Alpha. Keith is Beta. Don't get me wrong. I really like Keith. But I think the second he sees what he's up against he will deflate. He won't rise to the occasion because he won't think he can win anyway. It wouldn't surprise me if he suddenly starts ghosting you once he finds out your boy was here." Hex cursed. She didn't want to think Keith would flake out on her like that, but she couldn't deny he wouldn't either. Considering how hesitant he had been to progress with her. That had even been before competition. Not that she really considered Dimitri competition. What they had was purely physical attraction and that simply wasn't enough for her. Hex knew she could keep herself from crossing that line again if she was careful enough. "Sorry honey." Her mother said before going over to the couch. "Wake up, deviant." She patted Dimitri's arm and Hex heard him take in a surprised breath. It made her smile. So the bastard could be startled? "s**t! I didn't mean to fall asleep." His voice was gravely with sleep and he slowly sat up as his arms cradled Lucy to him. His white hair tickled the top on his head but it didn't wake Lucy. It amazed Hex just how big Dimitri's hands were on Lucy's small body. They swallowed him, yet were so gentle in holding him. Lucy made a small sound of protest when Dimitri stood up which prompted him to gently rock him back to sleep, speaking softly in what Hex could only assume was Chinese. "You sure this is your only kid?" Hex's mother chuckled. She was clearly just as impressed as she was. Dimitri smiled. "I have three nieces from my sister. I have some practice." "Well that's reassuring. Come eat with us." Hex watched as Dimitri looked at her then, his face glowing and felt hella awkward when she felt butterflies. He sat down in the chair opposite of hers, one hand over Lucy's back that also managed to cradle his head. "He's so small." "He didn't feel small coming out." Hex grumbled and started shoveling food onto her plate. Her mother pulled up the third chair that rarely ever got used from the corner and sat down. "At least you got the good stuff to knock you out. I had to bear the whole torturous event with your big headed ass." Her mother smiled when Hex laughed. It had been her goal. "I wish I could have been here for it." Dimitri said softly as he gazed down at Lucy with such adoration already. "Why weren't you?" My mother pressed. Hex nearly choked on her coffee because it was just like her mother to be unapologetically intense. "I was out of the country on business that I couldn't get away from until last night." Dimitri hadn't even bothered with the food on the table because he was so preoccupied with Lucy. Hex also couldn't help but notice that Dimitri hadn't immediately jumped at the chance to throw her under the bus. They both knew that Hex had made it very clear she hadn't wanted him there. "Business that won't let you see the birth of your kid?" Hex sighed. "Mom. You know I didn't want him here." Why was she defending him? Her mother threw up her hands defensively and smiled innocently. "I'm just curious." Dimitri smiled, unphased. "I can see where she gets it from." Her mother blinked dark eyes. "Gets what?" "Her confident boldness. Fearlessness." Dimitri reached over to grab a piece of bacon. "You teach her to swing too?" Hex's mother threw back her head and laughed. "That would be her daddy and brother. Yeah, I forgot she knocked your ass out! They'd be proud if they saw you now because you're a big S.O.B." Dimitri smiled, tongue in cheek and looked at Hex, but spoke to her mother. "She told you about that, huh?" Hex just boldly stared back as her mother responded. "Boy, I'm her mother. She tells me everything." The warning was meant to intimidate him but again he just smiled. "Noted." Lucy stirred then. His little head wobbled unsteadily and his legs jerked into motion. Soft cries began to bubble up, signaling his hunger. Hex pushed away from her plate and went to take him from Dimitri. She had been itching to hold him before, but she also liked seeing Dimitri holding him. Feeding time provided her the perfect excuse to get him back in her arms. "Time to feed my baby! Come here Lucy, mommy has missed you soooo much!" Dimitri looked pained to release Lucy, but he did it anyway. He watched as Hex positioned him and went to the fridge. There were a few bottles of formula in there that she'd heat up to room temp. "You don't breastfeed him?" "I did the first month, but he seemed to have trouble digesting my milk. So we switched to formula. He's much happier now, aren't you buddy?" Hex smiled down at Lucy's tearful face. When he saw her smiling down on him, he went through a few motions of in-between crying and smiling. It made her laugh. Dimitri frowned at that. In fact it set him on edge. He also had trouble as a baby which had been an early sign of his cancer. "Has he been checked for cancer?" Hex arched an eyebrow over at Dimitri and then she remembered he had said that he had cancer when he was younger. "He checked out fine the last time we went, but we can suggest a more thorough look today." The microwave beeped after 10 seconds and she tested the formula temp on her thigh to make sure it wasn't too hot before she pushed the bottle into Lucy's mouth. "I'd like to come." Dimitri's concerned face was the only reason she didn't immediately tell him no. The other reason was because if the doctor's needed questions answered, Dimitri would be able to answer them better than her. She nodded. "I guess you can hold the diaper bag." "Am I a bad cook or something? No one is wanting to eat my damn food. After your busy night I'd assume you two would be starved." Her mother motioned to the spread. Dimitri laughed while Hex tried to turn invisible. Sometimes that woman could be the devil.
